The road to the White House runs through Michigan

I am waiting for the security sweep at the McCain Palin rally in Sterling Heights. This is what my life will look like for the next eight weeks. Arrive six or more hours before an event, help the guys set up, get out of the venue and wait. It makes for some long days and I don’t mind a bit.
The truth is we will be doing a lot of this between now and November. Just Sunday we went through the same process in Battle Creek for the Obama Biden ticket.
It is no mistake that these candidates are coming here immediately after their conventions. Michigan has been a key state in the last two election cycles and stands to be even more pivotal this year.
To understand exactly why, you really have to look at the electoral map. Thanks to the guys in our web and IT departments, starting next week we have a new tool so we can show you how the states shape up from an electoral basis and soon you will be able to go to woodtv.com and find your own interactive map.
This is an election for the history books. I want to make sure that you don’t miss any of it so I will be traveling with the candidates when they are in our area and when I’m back in the studio we will look at the issues (and math) that this race will turn on.
It’s time for the dogs to “sniff” our vehicles … gotta go.
All of this “Road to the whitehouse” talk about Michigan is nonsense.
When was the last time MI went republican in the general election?
The last time was in 1988 – TWENTY YEARS ago.
A lot has changed in michigan since then, mostly on the east side of the state, and the voting record has gone along with it. I would like to think that we are important here too, but I am afraid there is no truth to it.
McCain should probably focus elsewhere instead.

Rick, I’m getting a lot of email regarding the birth places (and original passport status) of both Obama and McCain. Did/does Obama’s passport show him as an Indonesian citizen; did/does McCain’s birth information show him as being born in Panama (before it was a US territory)? How can any of this be true; weren’t they certified before being elected to the Senate and before they were allowed to ‘throw their hats into the ring’? I’m getting more and more confused.

Here’s good news about Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr is trying to force a long-shot legal showdown in the Texas Supreme Court to keep Barack Obama and John McCain off the November ballot. Most of the big news media networks aren’t talking about it, go search the Internet and find the real truth.
I think Obama and McCain are both afraid of having Bab Barr in the debates, the Reps and Dems are too scared! The elections are suppose to be about balanced and fair for all news media. I used to be a Dem. since I was 18 and in 2004 I voted Rep. because I thought this country would get back on track. Well the USA is in such a BIG mess it’s time for REAL changes to vote for a Lib. party because most of the big major news media are only giving free PUBLICITY to only Obama and McCain and not giving the others who are running for the same office. It’s time for real CHANGE vote Libertarian. I hope you sleep on it tonight and think about it before you pull the BIG handle on Nov. 4 or mail in the ballot. God Bless the United States
