“The Steam Experiment” finishes 3rd day of shooting

9/7/08 UPDATE: Tonight, “The Steam Experiment” will be in the 4th night of shooting… again, most of the shooting will be indoors and at night at numerous locations around Grand Rapids… with closed sets.

After 3 days of shooting, the filmmakers are on target right now and the West Michigan Film Office says “they (production crew) are doing well and the community is helping to make the production a success… On behalf of our community, we have been able to answer every question and fufill all of the needs… with local businesses.”

:)

9/6/08 Filming underway: Shooting started Friday (9/5) and continued through the weekend, but most of the shooting will be indoors in areas off limit to the general public… there’s also no current call for “extras”… stay tuned.

“The Steam Experiment” setting up at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel

9/4/08: BIG UPDATE TODAY:

Amway Grand Plaza HotelIn a release from PR for the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, the Hotel “will be the headquarter hotel for the production team of “The Steam Experiment”.”

The Press Release also says that the Production Company, based in Florida “Cinepro Pictures Studios” will be filming in various locations that include the Amway Grand Plaza itself.

The release says.. “The crew is currently constructing sets inside the hotel and will feature a ballroom, lobby and the Pantlind’s majestic exterior. According to the script, the property has been dubbed “The Grand Hotel” in recognition of our site.”

But you won’t be able to see those scenes being shot, because, again from the release… “During production, only hotel guests and restaurant patrons will be permitted on the premises. However, all sets will be closed to the public and media unless otherwise authorized by Cinepro Pictures.”

More updates about cast and plot coming later today as well !!!

I’m hearing that there won’t be a massive call for extras… that local actors and actresses have rounded out the cast!!!

Here we go.. spotlight Grand Rapids… its movie time!!!

:)

last entry: September 2, 2008:

Who could it be now?  The rumors are running wild… we do know that a big movie project is coming to Grand Rapids.

What a crazy day… after rumors were swirling around town and the newsroom, Rachael Ruiz called me before my shift to ask me about the movie project rumors I’ve been sitting on for about 3 weeks.

As I’ve told my managers, we have to be careful about these things, because movie projects can fall apart so fast… just like Samuel L. Jackson’s “Unthinkable” quickly pulled out as their production demands were too much to ask for when the shooting was just weeks away.

Val KilmerSo between Rachael and I, we were able to piece a story together (more pre-production details here).

This is the biggest project yet, its happening and its very real… and very cool!!

And tonight, after talking to the Publicist, he confirms that “The Steam Experiment” is coming to Michigan and will start to shoot in the next week… there is speculation (*nothing confirmed yet*) that Val Kilmer will star, and we are hoping to be able to confirm *that* casting news by the end of the week!

More and More Michigan Movies

AND THERE’S ANOTHER BIG NAME ACTOR THAT COULD BE COMING TO FILM IN GRAND RAPIDS….

The West Michigan Film Office says as of today, they have more than 23 projects in various stages of development that are interested in West Michigan, some are small budget projects or college movies, others are bigger like “The Fifth Mafia” and Samuel L. Jackson’s “Unthinkable”.

Rick Hert at the West Michigan Film Office says that number of 23 projects grows on a daily basis.

As for Samuel L. Jackson’s “Unthinkable”… Grand Rapids Public Schools says its still negotiating on the possible lease of Iroquois Middle School.   The West Michigan Film Office says they have been sending the Production Company working on the project location options for other shoots they might need for the movie.   That production company is also still working on its application for filming with the Michigan Film Office.

“The Fifth Mafia” is currently delayed in their production and hope to be here before “the weather changes”.

Another big name coming?

I’m also working on rumors that another big name actor is coming to film a movie in West Michigan… I’ve been in touch with the people behind the scenes who tell me they are still working out contracts and other details before the announcement can be made and before the movie actually comes to shoot here.

I’ll have that as soon as we can release that information.  :)

  1. Jackson says:

Me and my friends went to the Amway today to see if we could catch a glimpse of the set and we did! It was in a locked ballroom, and we could see the set through a crack in the door. Soon after seeing it, we were ushered out by security.

  2. Rick Hert says:

It is always fun to catch a peak of the filming but it is also important to realize they are here to get a job done. Good news is that this film crew is on schedule and GR has done all that we can do to make the production welcome.

This is a closed set and we want to make a great impression as we work to bring more is these jobs and financial impact to our communities, so it is best to stay out of their way.

    Rick

  3. Stacey says:

This is very exciting to have this kind of thing happening in our city. As my sons and I were walking downtown Saturday night to go see Bad Company at Rosa Park Circle, we passed Eric Roberts. He was heading back into the Amway Grand. I just smiled at him and kind of nodded and he smiled back, as much as I would have loved to have had an autogaph or a picture, I wasn’t about to be rude. He seemed like he was enjoying being able to just walk around and not being bothered with that kind of stuff.

Sounds like another mystery project to get hyped about.
