FOUR TOUCH-DOWNS!!!!!
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORY
It’s official…Mother Nature had twice as many touch-downs as the Wolverines on Saturday, as a September rain-storm spun up 4 confirmed tornadoes!
It’s always a huge challenge in the world of weather, to balance the importance and seriousness of threatening weather, with the demands of people who want to watch our regularly scheduled programming. In this case, the call was a TORNADO on the ground vs. Michigan Football! Our policy during a Tornado Warning is to stay on the air with live coverage, to track a storm cell that is showing evidence of rotation. On Saturday, the cell actually continued to show rotation for almost 2 hours, as it produced those tornadoes.
Since we are fortunate to have 3 television channels (WOOD-TV, WXSP, and WOTV), and a highly interactive website to share information, we made the decision to return WOOD-TV’s signal and viewers to the U of M/Notre Dame football game, and direct viewers in the path of the storm to our continual live coverage of the situation on WXSP and WOTV.
We have such a huge geographic area to cover with our information, it’s often not easy for a viewer in one community to understand why we’re covering up programming to track a storm that is literally more than a hundred miles away from where he/she may live. We remind people that while this particular weather episode may not impact a certain community, our commitment will be the same to them the next time threatening weather impacts their town.

Four touchdowns is more than the Lions usually score in half a season.
Where can we find pictures of the tornado’s? There use to be a place for just pictures on your website, but I can’t find them now that it’s been reformatted.
Thanks for keeping us all informed! What channel number does WXSP fall under? I can never find it.
Wow, that was rough! Slammin’ both football teams at once! That’s what they get for playin’ against Green Bay!!!
BUt why do you constantly cover things not in your broadcast area?
as per my email to you on monday, which may have prompted this post, blanketing the screen during a large part of the game was not necessary at all, it could have been in the CORNER, and all of you could still have rambled on with your audio. the viewrs could have seen the game. in this fashion, people could have been made very aware, and still watched the game which was only on NBC, without it becoming the ‘STTORRMM TEAMM 8 SHOW’. many viewers felt the same way, even though you can’t accept or acknowledge our opinion. it’s too bad it wasn’t on cable.
Tom, I totally agree with you and I compliment you for waiting until Monday to send your email. I sent mine Saturday. Like you I believe it could have been in the corner or that the scrolling on the bottom of the screen along with the radar that is ALWAYS in the corner is enough. Every time some one wets on the ground it becomes the TV8 drama show and given a choice I would have changed the channel in a heart beat. Once TV8 did decide to remove FULL coverage they still covered up much of the game by returning late from commercials etc. It’s getting to the point where the drama is so extreme that it’s rediculous. Give us the facts and be done. I don’t need to know what the equipment can do for us or that Terry Deboer’s brother is in PawPaw and what he saw as a fireman and I don’t need to see the damage pictures until the news airs. It is to bad that our opinions don’t count because honestly I am leaning so far away from TV8 for news and weather for all the drama. “Breaking News” (it broke 4 hours ago. lol) And weather, we live in Michigan people there is a tornado get out of the way. Go to the basement.
Oh thank you Michelle and Tom you took the words right out of my mouth. We ALWAYS have to hear about Terri and her wonderful family. Wzzm didn’t feel the need to cover the rain showers! I switched to wzzm along time ago, no braggers and alot less over dramatic!

Yet you still feel the need to come to Woodtv8 and comment on their blogs? Wow, are you really that bored?
Some people would complain “if they were hung with a new rope”.
In response to ‘me’. Yes extremely board, I am at work! I can only get woodtv.com and wzzm13.com at work so I was desperate and oh so happy to see that I’m not the only one that feels the way I do! At home I don’t waste my time being concerned with the idiots on tv but I see alot of people do. Do you really think Terri is going to stoop so low to read YOUR stories about your life? Ha! Loosers!! As you can tell, I am at work again. Great job though!
It all makes sense now! “ME” IS Terri! Get it? ME ME ME It’s all about ME!! Hey let me tell you all about my perfect kids and all of my accomplishments!! That would be really boring huh? Also for heavens sakes using “uh” in between every word is not a fashion statement!!! Geeeze enough already! Have a great weekend everybody!! Love you all!
Hey Cheryl,
whatever you do for a job, I’m seeing that you’re overpaid, really get a life. And no, this is not Terri, I’m sure she has far better things to do than read your bitter comments. So are you jealous or what? I mean really, get a life!
