Perhaps someone at your station is too young to remember, but there was a film shot here in the 1970’s called “Hardcore” with George C. Scott. A bunch of local people were extras in that film, including myself and a few of my friends.

And “Hardcore” was a big studio film, not an “indie” film. The director – Paul Schrader – is from Grand Rapids, and had the clout to film here. And what’s interesting is later he wanted to donate all his papers to Calvin College, but they turned him down just because they didn’t want to be associated with hin due to this particular film.
