September 21st, 2008 at 7:44 pm by Avi the TV Geek under Entertainment

11:15pm update: Well, need to do some cleanup before I write up my final thoughts. I’d like to thank my girlfriend and her family, the Lenaus, for letting me watch the Emmys in HD at their house tonight. Thank you very much.

10:56pm update: Best Drama: Mad Men; OK. Right now, Tony Tagliavia is jumping up and down with happiness right now!!! Wish it had been House or Dexter.

10:55pm update: Best Comedy Series: 30 Rock!!!! The Emmys have shown this show so much love tonight.  Awesome!!! I wonder how low the ratings of that show can go before it gets cancelled by NBC?

10:50pm update: “Haven’t they been suffienct?” That’s the key term to use for these guys. Surprised that Jeff won. Jeff you’ve come a long way from Rock & Roll Jeopardy.

10:45pm update: Reality Host: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Funny Kimmel. You got me. I fell for it.

10:41pm update: Actress Comedy: TINA FEY!!!!!!!!  Way to go!!!!  What are you gonna do with all these Emmys? Nice to see you give Julia a thanks!

10:38pm update: Actor Drama: WOW!!!!!!! Talk about unexpected win!!! Way to go Brian!!! Way to go Emmy voters!!! Something different!!!

10:30pm update: I love the “In Memoriam” tribute. I will miss you Mr. Conductor; today, tomorrow, forever.

10:27pm update: OOPS!!! The mic didn’t work for Vanessa. Too bad. Actress Drama: Glenn Close. Good job to her. FX may becoming the new version of HBO!!!!!

10:25pm update: Comedy Actor: ALEC BALDWIN!!! I CALLED IT!!!!  OH YEAH!!!!!

10:23pm update: Another expected award & it goes to Paul. John Adams is running away with Emmys tonight.

10:15pm update: Well, no surprise there. Battlestar lost out again. Sorry Matt.

10:13pm update: It’s nice to see the Emmys letting Rickles go as long as he wants.

10:09pm update: Howie Mandel’s rambling joke from Neil Patrick Harris. Very funny. VARIETY PERFORMANCE: Don Rickles.  No surprise, but he deserves it. That’s for all the decades of laughter.

10:03pm update: Big win for John Adams. Called that one! Nice joke of Sally and Tom refencing Forrest Gump.

10:02pm update: Boy, the Emmys are super pushing tonight. Got to make sure they end at 11pm ET tonight!!!! How come the Oscars can go till 2am??????

10:00pm update: Another Emmy for Amazing Race. The Emmys will always love you, no matter if CBS does or not.

9:57pm update: “Get up”!!! Very true Kathy…very true. I love Don Rickles.  He’ll always make me laugh. This bit is pretty good. Don is hilarious!!!

9:54pm update: M*A*S*H tribute. Boy, that series finale was horrible.  The ’saying goodbye’ part was nice, but the rest of it was pretty bad for TV standards.

9:50pm update: WHOA!!!!!!!!! NOT COOL EMMYS!!! NOT COOL. LET THE MAN FINISH HIS 15 SECONDS OF HONOR. WHO CARES WHAT HE SAYS??? VERY UNCOOL FOLKS. VERY UNCOOL.

9:48pm update: Recount is doing better than I thought it would. John Adams is doing as well as I expected.

9:46pm update: Stewart and Colbert will always be funny no matter what they do on stage. Oh, another McCain joke involving age. Hilarious….or not. It was what it was. I still laughed cause Stewart and Colbert did it.

9:43pm update: Another John Adams award. Nice.

9:41pm update: Dragnet intro.  Anyone remember the remake with Ed O’Neil?  Didn’t think so.

9:35pm update: Applegate looks great. Oh Recount won.  Eh.  No real surprise there.  Nice to see Denis Leary a part of something that won an Emmy.

9:33pm update: I’d vote for Jeb Bartlet if it were possible.

9:31pm update: Oh, a West Wing tribute. I love it.  God, I miss that show.  You’re right Martin.  You never won a best actor award. That was a crime.

9:24pm update: Way to go Tina Fey!!!  There’s a reason you’re my #1 favorite female celebrity!!!!!!!

9:22pm update: I liked how the one of the directors from The Office held up a sign that said “I’m not going to win”. He was right.

9:18pm update: What was Heidi wearing there? It looked like a curtain from the late 70s.

9:15pm update: I love physical comedy. Laugh In tribute is nice. Ruth Buzzi has aged! This bit was too slow. Variety Show: YEAH!!!!! Go Jon Stewart!!!!!  Long live The Daily Show.

9:11pm update: Grobin did a fine job.  It wasn’t great, but he did as best as he could. I’ll give him a B+.

9:07pm update: No surprise for this award.  John Adams is going to win several awards tonight.

9:01pm update: Josh Groban sang the theme to: Friends, Happy Days, Golden Girls, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Andy Griffith Show, Love Boat, Law & Order, Addams Family, Muppet Show, X-Files, South Park, Jeffersons, Baywatch, Brady Bunch, COPS, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, SNL, Late Show with Letterman, Late Night with Conan, Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Two & a Half Men, Rawhide, Gilligan’s Island, M*A*S*H, Carol Burnett Show, Cheers.  Where was the Batman theme?????

8:56pm update: Way to go Tommy!!! Speak your mind.  You deserve this moment after the way CBS treated you back in the late 60s.

8:54pm update: Nice to see the Emmys correcting something like this for Tommy Smothers.  Good job folks.

8:48pm update: The category for Writing: Variety is my favorite category! Late Night with Conan’s wins the award for best montage. Writing Variety: COLBERT REPORT!!! A win for America!!!!!!!

8:44pm update: That Simpsons episode is one of their best episodes. Too bad you’ll never see stuff like that again.  Supporting Actress Drama: Wiest. Too bad she wasn’t there.

8:38pm update: Can Ricky Gervais host the Emmys by himself next year?????  Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

8:33pm update: Ricky Gervais & that video clip show was very enjoyable!!! That Jon Stewart/Colbert/Carell bit from last year was hilarious!  This bit is going very well.

8:26pm update: I will always love Felicity Huffman. Supporting Actor Drama: WOW!!!! The guy whose name I can’t spell!!! Good surprise for the night!

8:22pm update: Jean is right.  Timeslots still do matter.  If Samantha Who? aired on Tuesdays instead of Mondays, it would have failed…and fast!

8:18pm update: Sorry Julia.  That was a lame joke. Supporting Comedy Actress: Jean Smart.  That’s cool.  Nothing wrong there.  Was rooting for Amy.

8:14pm update: So far, the Detroit Lions have performed better than the Emmys.  That’s not a good sign.

8:10pm update: Tina and Amy were funny.  Supporting Comedy Actor: PIVEN!!!!  NOT AGAIN!!!!!!!

8:06pm update: This intro is kinda lame. Heidi in a sparkling outfit.  Still lame.

8:04 update: Heidi’s in a suit.  Where’s Jeff’s tie???

8:02 update: Cute intro to the Emmys. Where was “Sock it to me” and “Holy Terror Batman!”???

7:57pm update: One of the things I hate about sunday football is that it usually delays 60 Minutes so I can’t watch a full episode. Oh well.  Time to watch the Emmys.

7:50pm update: Just saw a clip of the Jimmy Kimmel special.  60 Minutes is much better.  Glad I am watching that instead.

7:45pm update: The Emmys start in 15 minutes.  I’ve got my Cheez-Its, my Mountain Dew, my remote.  Hope this ceremony is more exciting than the Cowboys/Packers game.
