Summer’s Last Hurrah?
Today (Sat.) is the 12th day in a row without rain. During that stretch we’ve had 89% of possible sunshine and an average high temperature of 77. We’ll be a little cooler Sunday, but the significantly colder air will come in on Tuesday and from then on…the rest of the week will be on the chilly side. The water temperature of inland lakes is in the low 70s and Lake Michigan is in the low-mid 60s near shore. The mid-lake buoy is 67 and the water temp. is still 72 at Chicago. AAA reports fall colors are 50% turned in the western U.P. at the Porcupine Mts…and 25% turned in the Keweenaw, Marquette and Sault.; Ste. Marie. We have only 5% color here in West Michigan. I’m off to help out with the Harbor Humane Society Dog Walk at Kirk Park 10 AM – 1 PM, then maybe a kayak ride. Hope the blog “family” has a wonderful weekend.
what a string of awesome days, the only person complaing was probably me, as 80* was just too warm for this time of year…50’s maybe some 60’s would be awesome…I do like the 89% of possible sunshine..
heres the NWS summer summary..

Bob, I bet you were the only one complaining LOL
I wish we could rewind these last 12 days and put them on repeat. This has been phenomenal. I haven’t been this happy only twice this whole year weatherwise… That string of hot dry days and this string of warm dry days. The average high would have been warmer if it weren’t for that one mostly cloudy day.. It was cold out that day! The sunshine never made it to me until evening…
The days are too short! I even wake up at sunrise and the days seem to short.. Next summer I will be waking up early, no more of this staying up all night stuff for me, I have found I like the daytime too much =)
I will be away probably.. Grandma is having a garage sale.. I volunteered to help, cause I thought it would be a good thing… LMAO.. now I regret it! I just hope I make some money is all. I won’t have much to sell, but some is better than none!
Wishing you all a great weekend!
I have to say, this has been the week and a half, business wise I have had all summer.
The warm temps along with the football games next door to my store…. Summer has finally come!!!
Everyone have a great Weekend!!!!
Bill
Judging by the red’s and yellow’s popping around Allegan, we won’t be long off from peak color here. Down town nearly all the trees are yellow and leaves falling already. Wonderful weather for my birthday yesterday/last night.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Yes, this has been a nice stretch of weather. Its too bad we can’t do like Charles says and keep it like this all winter…well we had the coolest summer this past year sense 2004…I hope next summer is warmer….I read an article that said that due to the lack of sun spots the sun is the coolest its been in 50 years (not that big of a difference mind you) but that would take us back to the late 1950’s and we had some really cold winter back then..and that’s got me worried…and I am sure its got all of the frigidaires hopes up….slimJim
this is a great weekend
Jim-Does that mean we are entering a new, cooler weather cycle for the next few years?
Tim, if I may interject, you may be looking at twenty plus years of cooling! Solar cycles 24 and 25 are shaping up to be the weakest we’ve seen 1790-1830. There is a theory that the actual mechanism by which the activity of sun regulates our temperatures is it’s role in low level cloud formation. Earth is always being bombarded with cosmic rays from exploded stars. Scientists like Nir Shaviv and Henrik Svensmark believe that cosmic rays form the nucleus of clouds. When the sun is highly active it’s magnetic field shields the Earth from cosmic rays and subsequently mother nature produces fewer low level clouds. During periods of low or no sunspots, much more cloud cover. Low cloud cover=higher albedo=lower temps.
For those that might think this is some wild theory without basis, I give you the CLOUD Project, currently underway at the CERN complex in Geneva, Switzerland…

I’m guessing the conditions of the winter of 1979 will become commonplace in just a few years.
Gee, I miss Craig James!
Hey Mike, I always was “lurking” in Craigs blog…loved reading the scientific evidence that was provided on his blog, by Craig and of course yourself….it was very entertaining also reading some of the folks who had opinion’s otherwise.
I don’t think we will have much of a FALL this year. The trees are just starting to turn color. Someone told me that some of the apples this year will be about 2 to 3 weeks late for picking.
Not going to be surprised to see us show up in the Slight Risk tommorrow. Also not going to be surprised when we don’t even get any rain. :p
