80-degree temperatures! – updated

October 13th, 2008 at 6:25 pm by Bill Steffen under Bill's Blog

Highs on Monday:n  81 Hartford, Albion, Mendon -  80 Holland, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Bradley – 79 GRR, Hudsonville, Alma, Charlotte – 78 Lansing, Fennville, Clarksville – 74 Muskegon…Records:  83 Alpena (26 degrees above average!), 78 Sault Ste. Marie, and 77 at Marquette.     The Muskegon County Airport tied a record high temperature on Sunday of 80°. Grand Rapids made 82°, the warmest day since Sept. 3. Holland (Tulip City Airport) had a high temperature of 84°. There were only four days in July that were warmer than 84° at Tulip City Airport! On Oct. 12, 2006 – we had a high of 38° with 2″ of snow in GRR. The Kalamazoo Area had up to 5″ of snow that day! We also had winds gusting to 35-40 mph with the snow. It also made 80° up in Traverse City on Sunday and 74° on the Lake Superior shore at Munising. I spent Sunday at Gun Lake…took the kayak out and chatted with the boaters tied up at “Party Island”. What else…the Lions defense was pretty good on Sunday…there were a couple of questionable calls that went against them. (picture of thermometer Sunday 10/12/08 in Newaygo Co.)

It has been nice to have the warm temps…I think I’m ready for it to cool down some now. I do NOT like all the bugs that are still around due to the warmth. It is supposed to cool down by the end of the week but it won’t be cold yet huh?
Yes the Lions played excellent defense!! That fumble call, was the wrong call on Johnson so was the pass interference call on Bowden!! That was the best I’ve seen the Lions defense play in a long, long time!
What is the prediction for the first snowfall?
    Dan

This weekend was real nice..just too bad it can not stay like this until May…..I can not figure out why some people like the ice and cold so much…52° here this morning should be able to get one more real nice day today….

  4. Tyler (Holland) says:

  6. Eric W (Was in Ionia, now in Mason County) says:

Snow, snow, snow… If I say enough times does it come true? :)

  7. John says:

As long as the snow holds off until I have my snowblower ready….

  8. This feels amazing… not as much sunshine though today which kinda sucks, but that’s good cause now I can wash my truck and it won’t spot! We are at nearly peak color here now in my neck of the woods, lots of yellows and oranges, not as many reds this year..

Unless you count the Sumac that is..

    Enjoy it everyone!

  9. Tim Walters (Holland) says:

The first measurable snow we get I am going to bury myself and not think about anything but how long I’ve been waiting for that day to come. There is something so wonderful about snow. Can’t wait…Looks like we’re beginning our downward spiral through the fall season again, I welcome it.

Hey Bill. Is Party Island kinda like the Redneck Yacht Club?

  11. Sarah (in martin) says:

I cant believe you brave Gun Lake in a Kayak. I hope the boaters were more respectful to you then they were to us when I was teaching my 2.5 year olds how to fish. This momma bear had to bite her tongue a few times (so my children didnt learn their very first naughty words – saving that for the playground).

Took the kids to the park this morning and the air feels weird. Difficult to describe. Almost like spring..but not. I dont know. Not weird as in storms approaching weird, just odd.

Still havent cranked up the furnace. Im trying to see how long we can go. Probably by the end of the week I will have to turn it on in the mornings at least.

The only good thing about snow is when it melts…79° and sunny here..If I had my way it would stay like this all winter long (sorry snow birds but if you want snow there’s always Alaska)….Charles I think around my house there are more reds then the last few years the Maples are really red this year….SlimJim

Couldn’t have said it better myself =)

75F now, reached a high of only 76F…We were stuck under the clouds all day! Saw a few peeks of the sun but now it’s disappearing again…

Going to go outside again soon… I actually swatted a mosquito today.. weird..

I don’t mind snow for maybe 2 months, and temps in the 30s, but anything more or colder than that is horrible!

I hope next year we start getting the big storms in March, cause we haven’t even had a decent storm here since July…

  14. michael g (SE GR) says:

That’s all right, just let that colder air keep building up, and hit a with a real blast of winter right around Thanksgiving.

  15. Bob P. :o) (St.Johns) says:

That was way too warm yesterday, but I agree with Michael, too early anyway, so build that cold air pool!
