Sunday Senatorial Debate

October 15th, 2008 at 5:54 pm by Rachael Ruiz under News

Unlike some election cycles, I am running into more people than ever who say they still haven’t made up their mind about who to vote for next month!

Today was an especially exciting one in West Michigan. Air Force One touched down at Ford International Airport for what is likely to be President Bush’s last visit to West Michigan, while in office. Barack Obama announced today he’s pulling campaign workers out of Michigan because he has double digit leads over John McCain in the presidential race. McCain made that same decision weeks ago when he pretty much conceded the state to the Democrats.

This Sunday, you have another opportunity to take part in the political process. You can check out the U.S. Senate debate between Senator Carl Levin (D) Detroit and Representative Jack Hoogendyk (R) Kalamazoo. It is scheduled to take place at the WGVU studios in downtown Grand Rapids. The debate will air live on PBS stations throughout the state, at 7pm on October 19.

I will be one of four journalists on the panel asking questions of the candidates. I haven’t finalized my question list, but I’m certain to inquire about the country’s economic overhaul plan, among other things. Any questions you feel we should ask? Feel free to drop me an email.

Ask the Senators “With the current economic crisis being caused by financial institutions and individuals poor budgeting practices and excessive use of credit, what do you think will happen to this country as they extend further credit and expand their own debt – rather than trying to balance their own budget. What if the other countries that we owe money – decide to foreclose on this nation.?

Ask PBS why they are only including 2 of the running mate? What about Scotty Bowman? My question is not really for the canidates but to the media and the networks. Why do we continue to only be allowed to hear from Republicans and Dems? I think they should allow Scotty Bowman to be apart of the debate and allow the voters to decide who they want as their Senator.
For those of us who are disillusioned with the way the Rep’s and Dems are running our country it is time to look at a different party. A party who stands for true liberty and who really stands for less taxes and less government control.

Ask Carl Levin why he voted to raise taxes in a state that is in its own recession. How could he ask tax payers to pay more out of pocket when they have less coming in.

  4. Ask Levin and Hoogendyk about the giant wall street bailout.

  5. Foreclosure says:

Very good information. Thanks for letting me know about this to help me in my foreclosure problems.
