Cold and Windy
Wind gusts on Sunday: 59 mph at the Grand Haven Channel, 58 mph near the Holland Channel, 51 mph on the beach at both South Haven and Muskegon. We have had reports of small hail, sleet and wet snowflakes. The ground is still warm, so significant accumulations are not likely. GLERL is forecasting waves up to 14 feet high Monday AM (that’s overdone). Waves should be down to 4-6 ft. by late in the day…still choppy on Tuesday. There’s also a Winter Weather Advisory up for the western U.P. for up to 6″ of snow! Click for Grand Rapids NEXRAD radar loop.
Just had a heavy burst of sleet come through my area!
I guess my area made up for all the hail we missed in past years LOL
The hail isn’t being held up by very much, the tops are rather short, and these are moving fast and developing and dying fast. Part of the reason for the hail being soft, just poorly formed. The hail this morning was hard though, those clouds with the cold front were considerably larger. Into the 20,000ft range.
Now the 6-10 day outlook is calling for much above normal… could we be in for one last warm up before we get thrown into the clutches of winter?
Uhh…I guess the best chance of storms will be on the lakes and nearshore areas??
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html
weirdest outlook I ever saw..
Weird outlook Charles, must have something to do with the lakes…Got a nice cell coming into the Holland area, should arrive in 10 minutes or so, I’ll get some pictures if we get hail.
First hail earlier, now thunder and lightning, oh my…wild weather night, eh? Enjoying it, all the same.
we had lighting and thunder here in middleville hi tammy
Winter storm watches in the UP are now Winter Wx advisories…

does anyone know what the highest wind gust was in or near lowell?
I missed everything here because we were taking my sister back to college! Sounds like there were some pretty good cells too.
This was the storm with the cold front that dropped some pea sized hail at my house around 10AM or so

We just had a little freezing drizzle/rain for about 5-10 mins.
(MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY )
WILL GO WITH A DRY GIN THIS EVENING AS H5 UPPER LOW/TROUGH EXITS TO
STAGE LEFT AND WE WAIT FOR THE CHIPMUNKS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL AFTER 06Z. IT WILL BE AN IMPOTENT FRONT… DRIVEN BY A 150 KT UPPER THRUST FROM THE HIPS. MODELS SHOW A STRONG VORT MAX ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE JET
(AND SLIGHTLY SUB ZERO LIFTED INDICES) ARRIVING WITH THE FRONT SO
WILL HAVE CHANCE OF MOM AND POPS RETURNING AFTER 06Z AND EVEN A SLIGHT CHANCE OF GETTING CAUGHT IN THEIR BED WITH MY GIRLFRIEND.
HAVE EXPANDED MY WAIST LINE TO COVER THE ENTIRE CWFA. IT
IS SOMEWHAT BORDERLINE FOR THE COUNTIES INLAND FROM LAKE MICHIGAN…
BUT WE SHOULD SEE GUSTS REACHING OR EXCEEDING 40 MPH AT TIMES DUE TO COMSUMING HUGE QUANTITIES OF MEXICAN FOOD LAST NIGHT. WILL AND GRACE IS NO LONGER IN SYNDICATION. THEN SCATTERED POPS ASHES CAUSE HE WAS DEAD. MOM POURS WHITE RUSSIANS EVERY 10 MINUTES CAUSE SHE IS LONLEY. MILWAUKEE IS ACROSS THE LAKE. IT/S INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT WARREN BUFKIT IS NOT THE WEALTHY GUY. CHILD MOLESTER
PROFILES SHOULD BE SHOWN EVERY DAY AND AIR BETWEEN 5 & 6 PM SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND
EVENING… SO LAKE EFFECT POPCORN PROBABLY WILL NOT BE TOO SIGNIFICANT.
HOWEVER AS THE POLAR JET DIPS SOUTH OF THE STATE AND DEEPER MOISTURE
ARRIVES SUNDAY NIGHT… LAKE EFFECT SHOWERS SHOULD INCREASE IN
INTENSITY WITH SOME LIGHT/SLUSHY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE BY
DAYBREAK MONDAY. THE BEST CHANCE OF ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE IN MY UNDERWARE
FROM ALL THAT MEXICAN FOOD AWAY FROM WARMING FLATULENCE OF WATERS STILL IN
THE MID DIGESTION. IN GENERAL POOP PROBABLY WILL NOT BE IMPACTED TOO
MUCH SINCE THE GROUND TEMPS ARE STILL VERY WARM…. BUT IF INTENSE
SNOW BANDS DO DEVELOP…THE HIGHER SNOWFALL RATES COULD CERTAINLY
COAT THE ROADS AND LOWER THE VISIBILITY SIGNIFICANTLY. WINTER WX
ADVISORIES MAY BE NEEDED TO COVER THE POTENTIALLY MESSY MONDAY I LIKE TOAST BREAD, AND AM GOING TO HAVE CHEERIOS NOW
MORNING COMMUTE/FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON.
THE COLD AIR STICKS AROUND MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT WITH LAKE EFFECT
SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUING. THE PREDOMINATE FLOW IS NW… KEEPING ME SHIVERING AND HAVING TO P.
THE BEST CHANCE OF ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE IN MY UNDERWARE
FROM ALL THAT MEXICAN FOOD AWAY FROM WARMING FLATULENCE OF WATERS STILL IN
THE MID DIGESTION.
LMAO!!!!!!
WTF? That was hysterical.
Charles, You forgot to mention there also would be a good chance of a rumble of thunder or two also, with a some strong gusts with the thunder…very funny Charles…
39° here with broken clouds….
SlimJim

sleeting here right now
A belated report, since I’ve been kinda busy… there was quarter to half inch hail last night, and it piled up to several inches! Indeed, there were still remnants of the hail on the ground this morning… I’ve definitely not seen hail last so long, nor so much all at once. But, it probably helped being only about 40 degrees…
Had some hail here in Hudsonville about 15 minutes ago.
been sleeting here off and on all day. i went to meijer and walked out and started getting pelted w/ sleet. THAT HURTS
just cloudy and windy here
Accumulating 1/8-1/4″ hail in Allegan right now.
We had a large portion of our niehbors tree fall into our yard sunday afternoon. Watching tv and we thought a car had crashed in front of the house. Lot’s of sleet here today and quite windy.
Jim, what did I say that was very funny? I know I quoted “Your Mom” but I can’t recall saying anything funny lol..
Dale…3-5″?? No way, that had to have been mistyped!
We had some light sleet here today, mostly sunshine so far, but it is cold, 44.2F according to the weather station down the road.
Long pea-size hail storm in DeWitt for the last 3 minutes!
Storm Prediction Center has taken us out of the thunderstorm outlook, and it looks like things are really firing up over the lake.
A few flakes over here in ann arbor, but mostly rain.
Yeah Charles its gone now! Nice teasing forcast though! Heavy hail here, about 15 min ago, covered the ground nicely.
LOL yeah, those teaser casts are nice.
Now, off the subject, but remember Bill mentioned about the large spider populations this year?
You can just be glad we don’t have THESE…
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/10/22/easpider122.xml
That’s an article from website in the UK. The photos appear real..
I kind of want to see those spiders now…
Hooray for a brief wet snow shower in Mt Pleasant… and a snowbow.
DireFloyd, there are flakes in Ann Arbor all year. Only place I ever saw that had dead-end one-way streets. Getting some snow mixed in with the rain here in Muskegon.
Cort…Pix?
We are trying to find out about the wind turbines you said are on the computer at wood tv. We did not find the ones you are talking about on the 5pm news. Plus we tried to hear the Govener but you have to much noise on the tape we could not hear. Sorry I don’t think we are deaf but we may be.
We went to Holland yesterday to see the waves. There were some people in the water with wave runners and one guy with a surfboard. I thought they were insane.
No, no pictures, Charles. I’m at school and I don’t have a camera anyway.
That’s too bad Cort.. oh well
Had the thunder and small hail here also on Sunday afternoon. The wind did’nt blow here as bad as i thought it would, but still had some good gust go through. Not going to help us none here, but i see gas is down to $1.97 in Springfield,MO. So ours should keep going down. Where has Patrick the gas man been? How low does he think it will go?
Had some pea size briefly in De Witt Township, Clinton County
Monday afternoon.
I lived in Oklahoma briefly. Gas is low as $1.94 in Oklahoma
and Norman, home of the University of Oklahoma and the
National Weather Center http://nwc.ou.edu/
Gas is $1.97

Anyone picking up any snow/sleet accumulations near South Haven? Nice LES flowing North-south coming onshore around South Haven.
