Snow showers continue overnight into the midday. I’ve got nearly an inch on the ground on the grass at my place. The ground and pavement are still warm, but a heavier snow shower could certainly produce some icy spots. The coming week looks cool. Often the last hurricane of the season brings an end to the warmer weather. High temps. this week mainly in the 40s. The Advisories and Warnings for northern Michigan has expired. Up to 11″ of snowfall (9″ on the ground at Shingleton in the U.P. Five inches of snowfall at Ironwood and Munising. Up to 10″ of snow fell south of Gaylord and 6″ at Mancelona (which is melting slowly).

WOW! I saw it yesterday, SNOW! It was mixed with rain but I saw it. I know I’m like a kid seeing snow for the first time. What does our Winter forecast look like? Does La Nina still factor in? Any chance the snow tonight could stick around for a few hours (I know its only going to be about 1/2 inch at the most)?
    C’mon Winter!
    Dan

  2. John says:

    Snow! Bah! Humbug!

  5. Barb says:

  6. sbanchorage says:

Nice forecasting! I think Bill predicted you’d get our cold air about now.

  7. Rumrunner(Alger Hts.) says:

Well, a new look for the blogs…Hmmmmm Not sure. Bill, was this your doing? Or the mastermind web guy? LOL

  8. 33 degrees, windchill 28, mix of snow and sleet. Two unhappy dogs that didn’t find sunshine and went back to bed. We’re suppose to get this mix until about 2pm today and then changing to all snow. Accumulation for the grassy areas only.

  9. Danielle (middleville) says:

    we got mix here

  10. Sarah (in Martin) says:

Rain/Snow mix here. Mostly snow at the moment. I dont mind it. I actually got some leaves raked to the curb and they didnt blow away.

  11. SlimJim(nw GR) says:

Very light snow (you have to look for it) but its cold and damp, not my kind of day. I will bundle up and get ready for my walk anyway. Bring back the sunny 70’s from last week I will take them any time from now until April when it can warm up.

  12. Rob (Portage) says:

Light snow here in Portage for about the last hour. I came across this site that seems interesting…..all it tells me is that its going to snow this winter!

  13. Tyler says:

mainly snow here today in holland. Sleet mixes in every once in awhile. Not much accumulation. a little bit on the grass and roofs

  14. levi says:

WOW im soo happy that were getting snow im getting into the christmas feeling again i love it

but not much accumulation at my house

  15. Tim Walters (Holland) says:

Wow, LES warnings for the Northern lower Pen….Gaylord area. Jealousy consumes me.

Light sleet here, I have yet to see some actual snowflakes. Does anybody have any idea if we have any real Arctic air on the horizon? Looks gloomy for the next week, not warm and not cold.

  16. Slim Jim(nw GR) says:

Rob (of Portage) that is a rather interesting site, I do not like what he is saying but yes if that were to hold true we would get a lot of cold and snow. Joe B. at Accuweather has some of the same ideas, I for one hope they are both wrong…Yep Tim the gloom of November is upon us.

  17. Flurries here.
Some people are calling for 2″ in my area, I doubt it. I say dusting to MAYBE 1″. But not 2″….

Good day to sit indoors with the heater on LOL

  18. Check out these photos from user knotts over on wunderground from Kalamazoo, MI!

  24. Larry from Hastings/Barry Co. says:

Here in Hastings, we got some snow on the grassy areas. The temp not too bad. On Monday want to drive down to the state of IN. Do some christmas shopping for my wife. We enjoy the amish areas. Hope the weather will be good driving down there.

  25. Rob (Portage) says:

I came accros that site and thought some of you would like that.

  26. Rob (Portage) says:

……just got home from doing a little Christmas shopping!! I havent been on here in forever, but some of you might remember me blogging on here saying that my daughter was just born…..this was back in June. Well we were shopping for her and had to pick up some Christmas lights for the house that were on sale at menards. Hope to get a decent day to get all my lights up in the next week or two.

  27. Craig (Holly St Park area) says:

Rob – you may have missed your opportunity for a “decent day” to get your lights up. I’m thinkin’ last week used up the rest of the warm days for the year!

  28. Rob (Portage) says:

Im thinking so…..but if we can get a day near 50 with sun….that would be perfect! We will see……need to get some firewood yet too…..wood has gone up in price too. It would be a good day for a fire in the fireplace if I had more than 3 peices of wood! Wife is making a big batch of baked potato soup….Mmmmmm

  29. I’m really hoping for a decent winter. Alot of people are predicting some Major snow storms across the lower great lakes into the appalachians with additional lake effect behind those lows… so that would be a good snowy winter. I Noticed that the jet stream is a little different from last year… looks like many of the lows will fall ESE across the plains into Indiana and Ohio, before making a jack-knife turn for the NE.. Means some good snow for us, and probably even more for the Eastern states (Noreasters)

  30. Bob P. :o) (St.Johns) says:

    AWESOME…. Lovin these flakes a fallin….

Harry if we can keep that jet position for the winter…it will be a awesome winter, only question is will our storms transfer there energy to east coaster storms before they give us a good event?
If the pattern can also “set up” a good phasing event or two, maybe we can have a 67 or 77 style storm???
    Bring on the big stuff!

  31. Bob P. :o) (St.Johns) says:

    Rob,
we still will have a chance for at least a couple more 50 degree days, but even if we dont…you will be out there in the snow puttin them up..for that new daughter! 8)

  32. Rob (Portage) says:

Yeah….gotta have em all up b4 thanksgiving……i light up the day after……it can snow after thanksgiving!!

  33. fansy55 says:

Rob, congratulations on your baby girl! That is so exciting!

Snow is sticking just a bit here on roofs and patio furniture and the leaves that didn’t get raked up.

  34. Tim Walters (Holland) says:

Southside of Holland is picking up a dusting of sleet, mainly on rooftops, cars and surfaces off the ground. The LES is instenfying closer to the lakeshore and getting denser. Maybe we’ll see a slushy inch tonight.

  35. Craig (Holly St Park area) says:

Only the occasional flurry over this way. :-(

  36. Kathy W (Martin) says:

Hey, Bill, nice to see you in the Kalamazoo Holiday Parade yesterday!! Got a good pic of you waving at the crowd. My daughter was marching with her band from Kalamazoo Christian and then we spotted you guys. You also were walking alongside the parade route at one point and walked in front of where we were standing. It was COLD and windy Saturday, but a great parade!

  37. Eric (Now SE Mason County Was Ionia) says:

It is been snowing off and on since yesterday up here. It is now starting to stick. Hoping to wake up to some snow on the ground tomorrow. :D Still wish I could get WOOD TV8 up here digital wise. I have to settle for WZZM13 if I want to keep tabs on the Grand Rapids up here.

  38. Rob (Portage) says:

A heavy dusting on the deck here!

  39. MaryCB (Wyoming) says:

I think your web guy forgot about Daylight Savings time because you are one hour ahead on the posts here. LOL. It’s just been what I’m calling mini-hail here. Not snow, just little tiny ice pellets. What are those?

  40. Rob (Portage) says:

    pelt????

  41. MaryCB (Wyoming) says:

    HA

  42. Craig (Holly St Park area) says:

This is the third attempt to send this.

    Mary, it is probably graupel.

  43. Craig (Holly St Park area) says:

Finally it went through. Here is some info on “graupel”.

    http://emu.arsusda.gov/snowsite/rimegraupel/rg.html

  44. have a dusting on the deck already and still coming down lightly

  45. Joe (Downtown) says:

    Temp reading: 30.8 degrees
Observation: Very light to VERY briefly ALMOST moderate…

  47. John says:

Maybe the heavy snow won’t load up on our driveways any faster than WOOD-TV’s new website. Be ready for rain in June.

  48. Rob (Portage) says:

HAHA John……just talk with my dad….he lives out west of Schoolcraft. His grass is completly covers and his deck has an inch of snow on it! I have a 1000 foot driveway to pave in the morning….might have to plow it and then pave it! Havnt had to do that in many years!!

  49. Slim Jim(nw GR) says:

its 31° with some white substance on the grass and cars…we can now put the first official “snow” fall for NW GR as being November 9th…

  50. Mike Geukes says:

11 inches of snow reported in the U.P. in Alger County

    0.5 inches in East Lansing
0.3 inches NWS Grand Rapids Office
    0.1 inches Lansing Airport
