A Cold Year for North America
This is a map showing average temperature for January through October relative to normal. Areas that are blue have been cooler than average and that’s most of the country. By my count this comes to 38 of the 48 states. Most of the 10 states with warmer than average temperatures are small and in those states it wasn’t much above normal. Add the fact that Alaska is having what could be their coldest year in recent history (Anchorage has had only one month with warmer than average temperatures this year…Fairbanks was 7 degrees colder than average in October) and you’re looking at a pretty cold continent. Also note that the Arctic icecap is building back (now back to 2002 levels) and the Antarctic icecap reached a record high last year. I’ll be issuing my winter forecast in just a few days…and I can tell you this…it’s not looking like a warm winter for much of the country. You know, if we would have “fixed” “global warming” this map would have been even bluer.

from Bill ” if we would have “fixed” “global warming” this map would have been even bluer”
The Bluer the better!
Part of the reason that the temps are colder is that people can’t afford to heat their homes.

Well I hope that we are not entering global cooling (I had brought that up in Craig James Blog) that in my opinion would be worst then global warming. (Sorry about that Bob) but I do not think much of the US could survive a ice age. And just think of how much coal, oil and who know what else we would have to burn just to try and stop it.
The sun has now shot out and the temp is up to 47° time to get ready for my walk.

By the way I do not think we are heading for an ice age but I do think we will have a few years (20-30) where we will be cooler then in the recent past.
SlimJim
But Bill, what is the electoral college temperature average? Isn’t that how we determine if global warming is ocurring or not?
Nothing but grey over here and only 34*…
Some of the “renewable” and “non-polluting” energy sources coming online now have great potential. I’m referring to DenDulk Farm’s use of cow manure to generate electricity. Think about it!! Washington, DC could light the entire Eastern Seaboard.
USA Today Mention this, its on their blog, scroll
down a bit and look for, 2008 could be USA’s coolest year since 1997

Mike (New Web Blog on Blogger called West Michigan Weather)
thanks for remembering Alaska
Wow we have fixed the race problem and global warming. I guess Obama is the Messiah
Thanks John,
I read the article, now if it were possible to live there! LOL
I would prefer the UP, but my wife and I are opposites…she’s like SlimJim And Charles, she love the heat!
Had .21″ of rain mixed in with sleet and snow last night had a good covering of ice around 10PM last night. Light mist with a cold temp of 35° here.
I would rather live some where witch had a summer time with highs in the mid to upper 80’s and a winter time temp in the mid to upper 70’s (that would be a nice change of seasons LOL) I would like a good thunderstorm in the mix but no life threatening storms (I know just a dream)
Bob the UP is nice in July and August (most of the time)

No wonder it’s refered to as mother earth…..with these hot and cold flashes…it reminds me of my wife. But, seriously temperatures are part of weather cycles…and in Michigan it changes daily…its hard to get bored of the weather around here.
