Lions win first quarter!

The Lions won the 1st quarter of Sunday’s game with Tampa Bay!  Woo Hoo!  They were up 17-0 three minutes into the 2nd quarter…but then reality has set in.  Play was suspended for a few minutes in the first quarter when an unknown white powder was detected on several of the Lions players.  Homeland Security determined that the powder was from the goal line! (a little humor there)  Attendance was only 49,096, capacity is 65,000 at Ford Field.  However, it looks like the Thanksgiving Game will be a sellout, so the game will be televised locally.  I understand that FOX-TV has petitioned to move the East Grand Rapids playoff game to Thursday afternoon because they think viewership would be higher than for the Lions/Titans inevitable blow-out, esp. in the 2nd half of the game.  Michigan, Michigan St.  and Texas Tech had a combined 156 points scored against them Saturday – who’d have believed that!  Most of our area high school teams won this weekend.  Good luck next weekend, guys!  Highs Sunday stayed in the 30s for the eighth day in a row.  The last 7 days have averaged 8.3 deg. cooler than average, though we are still +1.0 deg. for the month courtesy of the exceptionally warm low 70s we had in the first week of the month). We’ll see a mix of rain/snow this PM changing to snow showers on Tuesday. With a stiff wind, Tuesday’s not going to be a nice day to be outdoors, with light accumulations inland and up to several inches in the same areas that get snow with northwest flow. We’ve got great weather ahead for the Thanksgiving Holiday…partly sunny and seasonable with highs around 40 for Thursday and the big shopping day on Friday. There is still a chance of a small-to-moderate-at-best snowstorm in the first week of December. A couple spots in Allegan Co. have already hit 20″ for the winter season.   I was in the Hudsonville Holiday Parade Saturday AM, then drove south with my lawyer-daughter, Michelle to do a meet-and-greet at the Battle Creek Holiday Parade.   Lots of other activities going on.  Cannonsburg Ski Area is open this weekend with reduced prices, and there is plenty of snow to run the snowmobile in many lakeshore areas and in northern and upper Michigan.  Finally, here’s a link to the spectacular meteor that occurred in Canada last night.   Hope you have a good Sunday and thanks for reading my blog.  Check the blog Monday PM for an update on the COLD coming for mid-December.

  7. Brennan Prill says:

No it’s suppose to end in the evening – This storm is suppose to circle the area… isnt that what terri said?

  8. MaryCB (Wyoming) says:

I don’t know what Terri said, but the guy last night said rain till the afternoon and the switch to snow. No rain here. Nada, zip. All snow. Are we to assume it will be more than 1-3 inches?

  9. Joe C. (Downtown GR) says:

The storm would have to retrograde or stall right now if we’re supposed to get more than the predicted 1-3 inches… edge of precip is already halfway across Lake Michigan.

  10. Bob P. :o) (St.Johns) says:

    Yeah Cort,
they did, I must admitt I was a little crazy, when I saw that…They did it twice..I couldnt believe they would risk others lives for a shot!

    Snow has just begun here..

  11. Brennan Prill says:

it is suppose to stall… im in science class studying weather…. they said.. that it is suppose to stall…

  12. Bob P. :o) (St.Johns) says:

So Now we are phasing the storms on this side of the state….those models…
and track slightly further south too!

Well maybe I will go back to my original prediction from yesterday of 5″ here..

    Let it Snow!

ANYONE ALIVE!!!!!! HELLO THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED!!!

  18. direfloyd says:

Snowing heavy now in Ann arbor!

  19. Steven (Hudsonville) says:

Yeah, I’m excited! I’m checking this at school during lunch, so I can’t go outside and stick a ruler in the snow, but from eyeballing it it looks like we’ve gotten around 1.5 – 2″. I’m thankful we’re not supposed to get anything like a foot, because we have exams today and tomorrow and I don’t want a snow day (the last time you’ll ever hear me say that)!

  20. MaryCB (Wyoming) says:

Well it’s about time they looked out the window and noticed it is snowing.

  21. Brandon Cimek(just south of Kentwood says:

about 1.5″ here working on 2″ and 33.4* steady

  22. Jim S says:

The snow is over at the lakeshore. Looks like a quick 2.5 – 3″ here.

  23. Snow started coming down hard about 20 minutes ago and already about 1/2 on the ground 3/4 mile vis at present

  24. Joe C. (Downtown GR) says:

I still don’t get it… the NWS has once again issued a winter weather alert AFTER the fact… the back edge of precip is already in western Kent county. As I said earlier, the storm would have to stop NOW, or begin retrograding sometime soon if it is supposed to snow through even another hour of the afternoon… Counties NE of GR are a different story. I’ll just keep waiting…

  25. MaryCB (Wyoming) says:

I don’t get it either. Is this system going to wrap back around? Also, the streets are not plowed or salted at all.

  26. Paul says:

Careful running those snowmobiles, keep them on private land. Legally you cannot run them on public trails until after firearm dear season is over.
