Warnings expire at 7 PM

November 30th, 2008 at 8:59 pm by Bill Steffen under Bill's Blog, Weather
Local The Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories will expire at 7 PM Monday for all of West Michigan.   I’m off to speak to the Ottawa Co. Townships Annual Dinner at the Pinnacle Center this evening.  Snow showers will diminish to flurries, with flurries continuing tomorrow.  A stronger Arctic cold front approaches on Wednesday with more snow or a brief mix changing to snow.  Then VERY COLD air arrives (850 mb temperature to -16C Friday AM)…so lake-effect snow is likely.  Saturday we get a clipper system and at least light snow.  Sunday even COLDER air arrives (-18C – (or 0F) at 850 mb Sunday AM), with more lake-effect.  More snow and colder than average for next week  Keep the winter coats and snow shovels handy!!  Click here to see advisories/watches/warnings for neighboring states.  Oh, and read the posts below and above…this is going to be a wild week of weather!

I just came in from clearing the snow off my tent in the backyard and it looks like there is about 3″ on the grass. The driveway has about 2″ on it and it is snowing lightly. Temp is 32.9

  24. been snowing all day here since around ora lil after noon

  25. HEY PEOPLE IN MONTCALM YOU’VE HAD ENOUGH SHARE THE LOVE LOL!!

  26. hahah

  27. Herb (Muskegon) says:

    lol

  28. MaryCB (Wyoming) says:

Here in SW Wyoming near Grandville, we have about 5 inches of snow. It’s been snowing since about noon today. Started fast and furious, then tapered off around 4 or 5, then back to snowing really good since then. I’m about 3 miles from M-6, by the Byron Center Exit. I wonder why they would take those accident victims to Spectrum Butterworth in GR when the new Metro hospital is just an exit away?

  29. Herb (Muskegon) says:

Not sure how much we have here in Muskegon, looks like maybe 3 inches, but the road out front is snow covered and slippery.

  30. Jodi says:

    Hi Bill,
I just went out at 12:00 a.m. and took a measurment of the snow on top of our patio table…9.75 inches in Belding! Good thing we already have the day off tomorrow or we’d be racking up a snow day already!

  31. Wow Jodi that’s a lot!

  32. Todd says:

2″ here in Nunica. That is on the car, about 1.5 on the driveway. Heading out to plow.

  33. pete from byron center says:

i have 6 inches now and snowing lightly.

  34. Roxy (Holland) says:

Hardly anything here in north Holland. Just enough to cover the grass.

  35. 4 1/2″ here at my place just did the walk around and average measure on the flat front yard!

  36. Carol says:

For the storm winding back up at midnight, it’s still not doing anything over here. (Holland).

I for one would rather have a snow day tomorrow than later in the week.
I’m still not prepared for winter.
Must have been the gorgeous autumn/Indian Summer we had that spoiled me.

  37. janetn white cloud says:

Its one thirty AM and we have four inches of heavy wet snow. Its been snowing steady since early evening. No wind at all. Not a heavy blinding snow just pretty steady. If it keeps up through tommrow we are going to have at least six inches. If it were the colder fluffier stuff it would measure more. My DH will definatly be breaking out the tractor for the first time tommrow.

It sure is pretty, its sticking to the branches, looks like a Currier and Ives Christmas card here :-) michigan is sure a beautiful state.

    God Bless all stay safe.

  38. Bob P ;o) (St.Johns) says:

    5.5 here in St.Johns,
Snowing lightly, but with larger flakes….32*

  39. Jeff ( S.E. Ionia County) says:

about same conditions here Bob, big flakes snow is light. around 4in here

  40. Jeff ( S.E. Ionia County) says:

should say here in Portland :)

  41. Slim Jim(nw GR) says:

I have just 2.2″ on the snow board and 3″ on the grassy areas and less then a inch on the sidewalk with a liquid content of .42″ so the warm temps must have taken quite a toll on the snow amounts here at my place. 31° here now with light snow still falling.
    SlimJim

  42. Joseph says:

4″ of snow here in Fruitport Township… sure looks neat out there with it all sticking to the trees and so forth.

  43. Jennifer K (NE GR by Plainfield/East Beltline junction) says:

Not sure how much I got. Looks to be at least 4 inches. Not looking forward to the trip into work or home today!

  44. DanO (Norton Shores) says:

    STORM = DUD!

  45. Fred Cedar Springs to Kzoo says:

I drive from Cedar Springs to Kalamazoo (I94/9th st). Lest at 4:30 and arrived at work about 6:10. The trip took about 20 minutes longer then normal. Cedar Springs (Shaner/17 mile) Shanner needs plowing but 17 is plowed, wet and slushy with aobut 6 inches on ground at home. Kent County freeways were wet to slushy about 5 inches. Allegan needed to be plowed but had less snow about 4-5 inches. Kalamazoo was plowed and less snow, about 3-4 inches. No cars in ditch on way to work. Speeds from 35 (allegan) to 55 (Kalamazoo) on freeways. Wife is now on her way to work and says Kent County has not changed much, just more light out to see what is going on. Another 1 to 3 inches today should not matter as people are out and about and the roads should be much better on the way home.

  46. Jennifer K (NE GR by Plainfield/East Beltline junction) says:

Thank you for the update Fred! It is really appreciated!

  47. WE’ve got a total of 2… 2.5 inches about. Barely any snow over night.

  48. Fred Cedar Springs to Caledonia says:

My wife drives from Cedar Springs to Caledonia. She says back roads not plowed. Main roads are slushy and plowed. 131 (Cedar Springs) to I96 the passing lane is slippery. She sees the plow trucks are out. Lots of extra traffic (I-96 from 131 to Beltline to 28th to M-6), she thinks they all thought to leave early like her. M-6 is wet, very little slush. M-37 to Caledonia is slushy and slippery. Took her about 15 minutes extra to get to work.
