Your Favorite Holiday Moment
Can you believe Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and New Year’s (did I forget anything?)are finally behind us?
I feel like the holidays flew by this year. And while they were fantastic… I have to be honest, I’m kind of relieved they’re over. It’s kind of like returning from vacation. It’s thrilling and wonderful to be gone… but also nice to return to your own comfy bed, homemade meals, and the car you’re used to driving every day.
I do feel this year that our country’s economic struggles made a sharp impression in how we all celebrated. Less material, more meaningful. Not such a bad thing.
So what were your holiday highlights? For me, I especially enjoyed getting our Christmas tree. We didn’t go over the top this year… just a nice little tree, cut fresh from Lenderink Tree Farm. My favorite gifts - soft Hello Kitty pajamas, a fuchsia scarf knit by my mom, and gorgeous pillowcases embroidered by my mother-in-law.
Some of my special holiday moments include seeing my sister’s eyes fill with tears when she opened our gift, a framed picture of her and her boyfriend. (She treasures it so much because they live so far apart. He’s in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico!) Napping by the fire after eating a very large Christmas feast. And many moments pondering how different my Christmas 2009 will be - with a baby!
Oh yeah… I would definitely be remiss to leave out my New Year’s Eve highlight - the midnight kiss! What a way to welcome in a new year.
I do hope you had a wonderful 2008. If you listen to economists, scholars and pundits – this next year could end up being a tough one. But whatever the future brings… I wish you a wonderful 2009, pumped full of prosperity and love.
This christmas was special at our home. We had a grandchild born in Oct. and another one on the way. Feb.1st 2009. Also it was a hard year for my wife, her mother died in July. It turn out to a wonderful christmas. We have 3 other grandkids ages: 8,9 and 17. We had two of the grandkids for a couple of days this past week. It’s been a fun season.
Our favorite “holiday moments” were the ones spent with our extended family. Our granddaughter and her adopted family, daughter home from Alabama, niece and nephew and their children. These are the memories that we cherish forever. May you and your family have a a joyous and peaceful 2009.
Our favorite holiday moments were spent with family being together! We really enjoyed each other’s company and it really didn’t matter who received what.
HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody! I’m praying that things we drastically improve as 2009 moves along (economy, etc)
What a great blog Rachel. We too had a very nice Christmas. My favorite part was attending the Christmas Eve service with my husband, two children, and parents in law. Hope you have a wonderful year with your new baby!
It’s all about family and faith….this year has been a big change in the dynamics….my two oldest are married, my two youngest are in college, we have a grandduaghter and another one on the way, my parents both passed away this year….each year it seams each of our children and their spouses are closer than before…….. the teasing and pranks are fun to see and to be a part of…..there were many times this Holiday season that my heart melted by the love and caring I saw…my wife even gave the three dogs in the family gifts..(she hates pets)…having all of the family show up to our churches christmas eve service was great (we didn’t even have to prod the college kids)….Have a wonderful and peaceful year!!!
