This comes on the heels of a January freeze that some citrus growers said was the worst in 20 years. Inverness dipped to 20° Friday AM, and temperatures dropped below freezing as far south as Marco Island, where the high temperature on Thursday never got above the low 50s.  Key West was only in the mid 50s on Thursday. The last time they had a day colder than that was Christmas Day in 1989. DisneyWorld has now had three consecutive mornings with temperatures in the low-mid 30s. Orlando has been 11° colder than average over the last six days and they have only had one month with warmer than average temperatures since May!  Daytona Beach had a Thursday high/low of 48°/27°. Havana, Cuba reported a Thursday high temperature of only 60° and a low temperature of 43°! In the Bahamas, Freeport could only get to 60° on Thursday and Nassau was in the mid 60s.

I was in south florida in early March a few years ago and it wasnt really that nice at that time either. It was nice by our standards but it was mostly in the mid to upper 70’s for highs. One day we were there out of 10 days rose into the low 80’s and one day highs didnt get out of the upper 50’s with rain all day. It was well below normal for Fort Lauderdale. This was in March of 2005.

i checked the windchill in daytona thursday morning around 7am…+19 degrees! O well, looks like a big pattern shift for the u.s. so finally some warm temps to look forward to both here in florida and michigan

  9. Jevon Murphy (Dalton Township) says:

Global Warming may either be slowing down or even coming to a stop, due to people starting to realize the dangers of global warming, and we are now starting to enforce/push more climate laws, which will reduce the amount of CO2 going into the air, which will slow down or even stop global warming!

The lack of sunspots is also helping the earth cool down a little! Climatologists say,”we could be in a cooling phase for the next 25-30 years!

What if we get another “mini ice age” that happened about 400 years ago!

  10. michael g (SE GR) says:

Jevon, you must not be keeping up on global warming theory.

The real warming whackos say that there is already so much CO2 in the atmosphere that even if we cut back drastically now, the temps will keep rising for decades. (Although I have no doubt that when it becomes obvious in the next few years that the earth is no longer warming that they will take credit for it.)

Last I heard China was bringing a new coal fired power plant on line every week.

The reason it is “slowing down or coming to a stop” is that the reason it was occuring was WRONG in the first place. It’s NOT the CO2.
