Texas and Mexico Heat!

February 28th, 2009 at 11:00 am by Bill Steffen under Bill's Blog, Weather

WOW!  It got to 101 Friday afternoon in McAllen, Texas!  That was the hottest they have ever had in February.  Laredo reached 98 and across the border, it was 105 at Monclova and 106 at Monterrey, Mexico.  That’s HOT!  They were cookin’ in the Lone Star State Thursday afternoon, too.   High temps. reached 97 at Comanche, 96 in Dryden, and 95 in San Angelo. An airport near Ardmore, OK. was up to 93. This area has been very dry. The humidity at Comanche was down to 6% Thursday afternoon. San Angelo has only had 0.82″ of rain since Oct. 13. That’s less than 8% of normal rainfall. When the ground is so dry, a higher percentage of the sun’s energy can be used to heat the air since it’s not being used to evaporate water.

It’s been awhile since I felt 97F. I wonder if west Michigan will get 90F+ temps. this year?

It always seems that before our summer developes, it has to be 90’s in the four corner area for a week or two….we could be in for an early arriving summer….with all the rain/snow we have recieved this year it looks as if we might also have a dry spring/summer…

I moved from Grand Rapids to San Antonio in Nov 2007.
It was 96 degrees where I live now in Marion, TX. The thing is though, the humidity is so low, that 96 degrees felt like 78 with 100% humidity in Michigan. I am having weather related problems here that I have never experienced in Michigan, like dry feet and sunburned car paint.

We had two unseasonably warm days here last week (in the 80s) and then the mercury fell! I had the AC on part of Thursday and Friday. Saturday morning we had to turn the heat on! Right now it’s cloudy and about 40 degrees, but I think we’re supposed to have another freeze in the morning. By the end of this coming week we’ll be nearing the 80 degree mark again!

It was VERY HOT last week, but Saturday AM a cold front came through and the temps fell into the upper 60’s (I am sure that sounds good to those of you in Michigan). Sunday was a beautiful sunny day in the lower 70’s. This morning temps were down into the upper 30’s but warmed up to 75 with sunny skies. Back into the 80’s this week. Hope it warms up soon in MI so us winter Texans can come back.
