Lake Michigan Water Level
The water level of Lake Michigan has risen 3″ in the last month. The lake level is up a whopping 13″ in the last year. That is an enormous increase in a relatively short period of time. Each inch of water on Lake Michigan is 380 Billion Gallons – so 13″ is just shy of 5 TRILLION gallons (sounds like a “bailout”, but this is kind of a “bailin”). The lake is still 9″ below the 100+ year average. All of the Great Lakes are higher than one year ago, with the exception of Lake Erie. Both Lake Erie and Ontario are higher than average right now. Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!

Great news! Now if the fuel prices can remain fairly low, we could see one of the best boating seasons of the past 10 years.
This is good news!
does the amount of water dictate the severity of the storms that cross it??????
Stan – no.
I know the lake level was high in 1986. Is there a cyclic pattern to the lake levels? If so, how long is it?
With higher lake levels, they can ship more cargo.
A possible .25″-.50″ of rain Weds. to add to that!!!
I am predicting the Lake levels to keep rising through at least the next month we may get back to our 100+ year average before spring is out!
The GFS is indicating a possible several day period of overrunning moderate to heavy rain from Sun. 22nd to early morning Thurs. the 25th, before is changes over to some moderate to heavy snow for a few hours (maybe 2-5″,if it pans out), before tapering off to just some flurries. Keep in mind that this is all possible, I am just basically saying to keep an eye on it because it could lead to more flooding!?
