Sunshine/No Snow
<–sunset at Grand Haven by Gary Brink on POSTED. We on our way to a record month for March sunshine. Through the first 17 days of March, we’ve had 70% of possible sunshine. That includes five days with 100% sunshine and only three days with less than 50% sunshine. We’ve also had quite a stretch with virtually no snow. Over the last 3 1/2 weeks, we’ve had only 0.2″ of snow. What’s interesting is that we’ve had a couple good shots of cold air, but we stayed snow-free with the cold moving in and as the cold moved out. The northern part of our state has had snowfall. Kalkaska reports 16.3″ of snow for the month of March. Marquette has picked up 35″ of snow this month. Marquette has had more than six inches of snow on the ground continuously since November 18 (four months). The average snow depth at Marquette since Dec. 20 has been 24″. Allouez in the U.P. leads the official season snowfall “race” with 266″ this winter, though I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody in the Keweenaw or Alger Co. could top that total.
Still XC skiing in the woods in Kalkaska!
64F here and climbing!!
i like this warmer weather but lets face it, this won’t be the end of snow and winter. i still think we could have some within the next month or so. i hate the way the weather changes so drastically here, i feel that’s why myself and family have been soo sick this year.
BRING ON SUMMER!
No winter weather on the horizon through at least the middle of next week with temps showing above normal pretty much straight through then. Not complaining! After the winter we had, we deserve this!
I hate to say it but I think that we are done with the snow storms and 20’s for highs.. and negetive lows…
Checking the long range models the jet stream is up in Central Canada and only once does it dip down into the states for the next 2 weeks… even then its only through the northern tier of the US. I think spring has sprung. Say hello to the 40’s, 50’s and every once and while 60’s!
keep the winds coming too, lets dry this area up and get on with summer!!!! Sad to say, but looking back in my life the 1st and 2nd weekends in March was typically when my dad would join his brothers for a long weekend of ice fishing in the west side of the U.P….the one year we were over 3 miles out in whitefish bay, you could see open water about a 1/2 mile away..we caught alot of whitefish and black suckers…it was a blast…makes me think that this weather is too good to be true…ohh well….happy St. Pat’s day and cheer for the green grass of summer!!!!!!
I got about 68 Degrees here in Hastings. It’s alittle windy out, blowing dust and dirt around. Had my 5 months old grandson outdoors for awhile this afternoon. I think he will be a outdoors kid.
Quite windy this afternoon but temps of 62 degrees, melting the leftover snow piles at the end of the drive(yahoo!) Observed aircraft contrails running the length of the sky from west to east, possible calm conditions in the upper atmosphere? not usually that long lasting, been there for a good portion of the afternoon and can see most planes passing by. Hope for some rain, ground is pretty dry, may have fire conditions soon without it but don’t need more snow!
We’re at 67* here in Park Twp. Quite windy out there, lots of leaves blowing around. Sure feels great! Good to see so many people out walking, jogging, biking this afternoon.
Also observed bald eagles flying near my house, must be spring is near, no doubt looking for fish die-off at Mona Lake.
65 at Muskegon County Airport, only 44 at the beach (GLERL)
I am up to 71° here so the warmest day of 2009 so far..its been nice have have any snow so far this month and I hope we are done for the year BUT we still have to get into mid to late April before I think we would be past the snow potental. It looks like it going to get quite cold later this weel so will have to watch for snow then..

Are there any snowbanks left down in Grand Rapids? There are huge bare spots all over here in Marquette now. Then their are spots of 5 to 6 inches of snow cover yet and still huge snowbanks left. It got up to 57 here today. I was wondering Bill where did you get Marquette had 35 inches for this month? I was just asking cause the NWS sais only 2.9 for the month of March.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day All!
Legend has it that Saint Patrick drove the snakes off the island of Ireland. Who will drive the snakes out of Washington? I can’t wait for our Irish president B. O’Bama to institute carbon o’credits.
Looking forward to 2-O’12

Tyler It’s pretty much all gone around here. I my work parking lot I saw piles still this morning but I doubt those last much longer.
