Note the snow that is left in the Porcupine Mts. of the Western U.P, up the spine of the Keweenaw Peninsula, in the higher elevations to the east around Herman, east of Marquette, on Michipicoten Is. and to the north of Sault Ste. Marie on the east side of Lake Superior. Also note the frozen lakes on Isle Royale and up north of Lake Superior (inc. Lake Nipigon). Here’s the Lake Michigan picture.

  1. No not snow!

There were still isolated pockets of snow up near Baldwin this last weekend – there’s a deep ravine near our cabin on Nugent Lake and there is a bit of snow at the bottom. As well as some chunks still left from snow plows.

My Grandmother had a trailer on Nugent lake spent all of my childhood summers up there..very fond memories.

Funny as a child I never heard or seen a mayfly up there. It was covered with those nasty things….I would not leave the trailer then it rained for the next three days. I had never seen the bridge so we decided to go see it we got to interlochen and sprung a hole in our oil pan….worst honeymoon ever!

Bad honeymoon aside it was a wonderful place to spend my childhood.

Yep, with or without global warming off and on there is snow and ice in the UP up to early May. No wounder very few people live up there!
Looks like there is a good chance of yet more rain here so the grass will grow (we will be going on a two time a week cut soon I am afraid) and we will have to watch for more low land flooding.
62° here with cloudy skies. Had 4.09″ of rain over the week end and the early part of this week.

Live here just 80 miles west of the Mighty Mac on the north shores of Lake Michigan and we have snow piles on the south side of the roads yet. (4/29). So you don’t have to be way up in Marquette County to see it.

  5. Tyler says:

There are still snowpiles in Marquette. In Escanaba there is a pile left every year that never gets any sun that lasts until May but other than that there is virtually nothing left in Escanaba. Munising, Trenary still have some snow in woods where they never get any sun. Still some big snowpiles left up there too.
