Showers/Storms Move South
Happy Friday PM! The map is nearly live radar and it’ll be empty most of the next four days (Suturday thru Tuesday). Here’s live local radar and regional radar. Check out the satellite radar loop, current Michigan weather observations, and the latest GRR discussion and the national lightning loop. We still have some river flooding…the Grand in Comstock Park has come to almost 3 ft. over flood stage (level at 14.7 feet early this Fri. PM). This is about the 3rd flood this year in Comstock Park (click for river data and Flood Warnings and Advisories). LONG RANGE: I think we will see basically dry weather until next Wednesday PM. There will be showers from North Central Indiana southward on Saturday, with the next significant rain for most of us coming Wednesday Night/Thursday of next week. We’re still looking at below average severe weather for a while in the Great Lakes. The GFS has more rain here May 9 with showers and upper 40s for the 5th/3rd Riverbank Run, but we’ll wait on more data before committing to that, with breezy and cool conditions for the Big Tulip Parade of Bands on Sat. the 9th in the afternoon.
We have been real lucky so far this season about severe weather here in southwest Michigan. I know we had some problems the other day, but it could have been worst. Sounds like a rain free weekend. We are having our city-wide yard sale this weekend here in Hastings.
This rain can stop for a while now!! The pond in my back yard is so high, it’s now covering part of my son’s playset. My sprinklers are also under water. In all the 14 years living in this house, I’ve never seen the water this high. On the flip side, it’s good for our water tables!!
I’m with you….stop and stop it now!!!!!!!! the last couple of days I’ve been driving by the paddlewheel west of Wilson on I-196, the top of the dumpster is now at the water level and the elevated propane pig has water to it’s base….ohh and my basement is wet again and again and again…..
I drive by that place daily too…and always gauge the flood stage by how high the water is on the trash bin too! Today, I saw that the lid is up and the water is up to the top with it full of trash that is exposed and ready to wash into the river. I hope that doesn’t happen!
Rumbling and light rain here in Kazoo.
Thunder and gray skies in Stanton 10:25 am
STILL raining here. We need a break.
With the higher lake levels and rising water table we are going to see more and more basements flood that havent in years and years.
Anyone who has a nice washer and dryer in your basement, go to Home Depot and get 8 cinder blocks and put one under each corner of the machine. You will get about 6 inches of wiggle room if it does flood.
Or call your insurance agent and add basement flood insurance – mine covers the appliances only.
I am hoping the rain washes our gopher away. It is tearing up my yard and I am about to go “Caddyshack” on him.
ANOTHER INCH OF RAIN OVER THE NOON HOUR AND THE WAY THE GRASS IS LOOKING WERE LOOKING FOR A GOAT GORDY
Hey gang, was woke up earlier today with some nice t-storms. Good amount of lightning, one bolt struck right across the street! Turned my regular bed into a massage bed for a few seconds! LOL
Now it’s plain old rain and has been for some time now..
Rainfall is 1.00″ and more coming here.
4pm UPDATE from SPC
…SOUTHERN/LOWER GREAT LAKES REGION…
A SIGNIFICANT LOWER/MID TROPOSPHERIC WAVE…ASSOCIATED WITH A LEAD
IMPULSE EMBEDDED WITHIN THE BROADER SOUTHERN STREAM TROUGH…IS
STILL THE PRIMARY CONCERN FOR SEVERE POTENTIAL ACROSS THE REGION. A
SOUTHWESTERLY 850 MB JET STREAK APPEARS TO BE STRENGTHENING IN
EXCESS OF 50 KTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FEATURE ACROSS OHIO…AND IS
EXPECTED TO NOSE NORTHEASTWARD TOWARD THE LOWER GREAT LAKES REGION
LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. DESPITE WEAK DESTABILIZATION…
FORCING NEAR THE WAVE COULD STILL BE SUFFICIENT TO SUPPORT ISOLATED
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT ACROSS PARTS OF NORTHERN INDIANA/NORTHWEST
OHIO/SOUTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN. IF THIS OCCURS…THE ENVIRONMENT MAY
BE SUPPORTIVE OF POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS…PERHAPS AN
ISOLATED TORNADO.
