Cool Rules

June 5th, 2009 at 10:00 am by Bill Steffen under Bill's Blog, Weather

It was 32 Friday AM in Big Rapids and Cadillac and 29 in Leota.   That’s six of the last seven mornings in the 30s for Big Rapids.  Lots of sun out there – it’ll be cooler near Lake Michigan today.  The water temperature at Grand Haven is only 51 and the water temp. at the mid-lake buoy is 42 (just 10 deg. above freezing).

Thursday AM low temps:  31° -  Ludington, 30° – Big Rapids, Cadillac and Manistee, 27° Pellston and 25° in Leota (just north of Mt. Pleasant).  The warmest low temperature in Pellston this spring has been 46°.  Since May 2, Pellston has dropped into the 20s ten times.  Over the last week (May 29 through June 4) the average low temperature in Pellston has been 30.1°.  Big Rapids has been in the 30s five of the last six mornings. Both the Coupled Forecast Model and the European Seasonal Model are predicted a cooler than average summer for West Michigan (not cold by any means…if the average high temperature in July is 82 and this year turns out to be 80 – that means a lot of nice weather to enjoy the outdoors like we always do).  Cooler than average temperatures are forecast for a majority of the area east of the Mississippi River with warm temperatures in Texas and much of the west with the exception of the immediate Pacific Coast.

Hey Bill. It is the first week of June….shouldn’t we be out of the cold by now? Only thing good about the cooler summer, is that it is normally a warmer Winter the following year.

Strong El Nino tends to mean cool summer, warm winter. Weak El Nino’s (like we are expected to be in) tend to mean cool summer, COLD winter.

      Sounds great to me!

move to Alaska if you like the cold so much, some of you really worry me on here.

Yes Mile for the most part it is but there have been exceptions also! As we could be in a ‘cold” pattern that sticks around for a while.

Global warming is getting out of control, if it gets any worse we may all freeze to death. All I can say is that we must pollute and burn as much as possible, try to build up the ozone, I burn at least 1 or 2 tires every night after dark…pour the black smoke!! As far as I am concerned we my as well build a pipeline to Arizona and sell our water for a penny or two a gallon, send all of us Michiganders our checks and farm the hole and feed the hungry. Then at least I wouldn’t be running my furnace in July.

well summer isn’t here yet for a few more weeks. i guess i can deal with temps in the 80’s and no heat waves this year. just for gods sake no more 60’s for highs. i can also deal with a warmer, less snowy winter this year too!
