tornado-generic-cutline1 First, you’ve got to see this time lapse of the t-storms going through Dallas Weds. PM.  The thunderstorm is slowly coming toward the camera.  The storm brought 6″ of rain to Dallas Love Field.  There were 11 rain gauges that recorded more than 7″ of rain in the city of Dallas.   Downtown Dallas had 8.23″.   Wind gusts hit 80 mph and baseball-sized hail knocked out windows.  The storm knocked out power to 260,000 customers around Dallas.  Four tornadoes touched down in north Texas.  Across the border in Oklahoma, an amateur radio operator measured a gust to 135 mph!

After those alleged 100+ wind gusts in Ohio last year, it would be wise for the WFOs to verify that home anemometer winds aren’t in km/h.

Bill, we could use some wind right now. I just woke-up to the smell of a MAD SKUNK. This tornado will be one for the books. A very good photo.

I don’t know what it is…..but I smelled fresh skunk several different times on my morning commute today! It was less than pleasant to say the least! :)

Whats wrong with the smell of a skunk? They have had some good storms down there. My Uncle in Springfield,MO had Tornado warnings all around him 2 nites ago,but no damage.Last month when they had the 90 MPH winds go thru from the Deraeso(Spelled wrong) was a diff story i hear. Early spring heat wave here now at 54.9°. Its all good. Have’nt had to turn on the air yet once so far.Saving $$$ for the gas pump, eventho i car pool anyways.

Hang on Vincent, we will be turning the A/C’s on next week…It will be interesting..looking at the models for Sat June 20th, My daughters outdoor wedding, possible 85+ ,humind and a cold front….can you imagine the storms, I will be out chasing, told the daughter we may have to postpone a couple events till I get back from chasing, she frowned! LOL

I might be right behind you Bob. I have a graduation in Bay City on Saturday! and it also is out doors. And as much as I like the warm weather where the graduation party is being held there is no shade but its all open country and flat as Kansans so at lest we can see any storms if they come.

lady at work this morning who is always complaining about the weather (too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too windy, whatever) complained about the sun being in her eyes on the way to work today.

unrelated-can anybody reccommend a good book on weather lore? i’m talking about old wives tales, folk sayings, superstitions and the like. for example, grampa used to say “thunder in fall means no winter at all.” i know it’s not science i’m just interested in how and why they came up with these things. and sometimes there was a grain of truth in them. i like to trot them out now and then when they’re right (and keep it to myself when they’re wrong!)

    have a wonderful day y’all

Funny thing about that is I was getting a christian radio station out of Dallas today on the FM dial clear as a bell as if it were a local station. I knew it wasnt local as soon as they were giving the local forecast and they said a high of 97 today. Then it shifted over to the panhandle of Florida and I was picking up a bunch of stations from over there.

  8. LightningWatcher says:

Nice link Bill. Everyone see the thunderstorm forecast for Saturday? I think the Storm Prediction Center finally has it right and knows not to include us. The big lake has been pretty hungry this year.

  9. Paul says:

Nobody “needs” to turn on the A/C…..I’m sure 99.9% of people could live without it. How do you think people survived up until like, oh, 1940 or so when the first home A/C systems starting coming into use? Seems they did just fine.

“Needing” A/C is just like how so many Americans “Need” a huge SUV or Pickup to drive their work commute. Its just more of the typical waste…
