After the Sunset The heavy rain of last last week added another inch to the water level of Lake Michigan. The lake is now only 4″ below the long term average for June. The level has risen 4″ in the last 4 weeks and now stands 10″ higher than one year ago. That’s 3.9 trillion gallons of water added to the lake in the last 12 months. All that rain and only an inch was added to Lake Michigan? Wow!

I went to the lake Friday afternoon at Millennium Park with my daughter and grandkids. The water was awesome, not too cold. We had so much fun! We all got a little too much sun, but just think of the Vitamin D we all got! It was jammed with people on Friday. That is such a wonderful place to go without having to travel real far to the big lake.

Hoping for some good thunder boomers Saturday night. :)

With the recent massive rainfall, where does the lake stand now?

  3. me says:

The water level might be up but with the new legislation of all water ways being controled by federal law they might pump water out to another community

Do you have a website about this issue? I am against giving our water away. It was my understanding, Obama would protect our Great Lakes.

      1. Marti B. (44th/Wilson SW) says:

Gov. Granholm should be protecting our Great Lakes. She did, afterall, put them on our State quarter, so she is the one who should be making legislation to protect them, not Pres. Obama.

    2. Rob Dale says:

There’s no legislation to do that now, they couldn’t without the okay of involved governors (and Canada) and that won’t happen.

There is a small line of rain showers developing in Wisconsin, nothing close to severe but we could see a shower or thunder shower later tonight.
Actually we could get some good storms on Monday/Tuesday. And I would not be too surprised to see that happen. I would look for heavy rain/hail and maybe some good thunder.

    1. spc doesn’t seem to care about monday and tuesday for us at all

  6. Dan says:

Why couldn’t that happen, Rob? We (Michigan) should have more of a say in what happens to the Great Lakes! They are a very necessary resource for our area!! There already SHOULD be legislation in place that protects them!
I remember them (Governors) discussing this very legislation a few months ago.
    It could happen, right?

  7. e says:

If your interested in who is controlling and administering the great lakes check out the international joint commission
    http://www.ijc.org/en/home/main_accueil.htm
It is a commission of all of the bordering states and provinces of the great lakes.

  8. Tim says:

If I’m not mistaken, didn’t our beloved governor accept federal stimulus money to “clean up” the Great Lakes. If we are concerned about protecting our valuable asset here, the last thing we should have done is allow the fed to have some Ownership of it. When they start to drain it for other communities, they can always say we took the money, therefore they have the right! WHOOPS JENNY!

  9. Mike says:

Up 3.9 Trillion gallons of water over the last 12 months?
Wow that gives me an idea how much a Trillion is, a whole lot.
But, Obama will beat that number by putting us in the hole $10 Trillon dollars
    with his wild runaway spending.
If his spending dollars were Lake Michigan we would ALL be under water!!
Now that my friends is way worse than the so called “flooding” caused by global warming!
WAKE UP PEOPLE Obama’s CAP and TRADE IS CAP AND TAX, TAX, TAX.
EVERYONE WILL PAY MORE FOR EVERYTHING IF THIS PASSES.
Even those of you that make LESS than $250,000 a year remember that “promise?”
Email your senator today tell them to vote NO on this bill!
