MGM calling for extras in remake of “Red Dawn” in Michigan

The Oakland Press reports that the production will spend two weeks at the end of September and a few days in October in Pontiac. Crews will transform “the area along Saginaw Street, just north of Huron, into a movie set depicting Spokane, Washington.

I love Red Dawn and am so incredible geeked about this, but the original does not have the the US invaded by Russia and China. China was the US’s ally in the original. Yes, I am a geek for posting this, but things just need to be straightened out. WOLVERINES!!!
Sweet! I’m feeling geeked about this to, problem is this movie is probably gonna be a couple to few years out. Darn you Matt, and letting us know such a movie is in the making so soon.
Eeerrr.. Aaron, sorry just got home from one of Allegan’s social establishments.
Kyle- thanks for the comment, I have updated the blog with two words to clarify…
“the new”… as in the new Red Dawn is the story of a group of midwestern teens who form a small resistance when their hometown is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.
that synopsis is from their Facebook page that is also linked in my blog post, IMDB does not have synopsis yet, but I assume they are adding the Chinese as the bad guys in the remake, since they are more “Reds” (communists) than the present day russians.
we’ll see…. thanks for reading!

Why are they remaking this movie? The original was great and perfect for the time, height of the Cold War, but in today’s era? Doesn’t Hollywood have any original ideas anymore, why are they recycling previously successful movies? If you want to see this movie Rent or buy the original it will probably be better.
Phil –
I too am getting tired of remakes, as I expressed in my Birthday Wish List blog last year:
http://blogs.woodtv.com/2008/12/03/my-birthday-wish-list/
But at least this one is bringing the movies to Michigan!!
