Weekend Sports Thread
<–glad I don’t have to pay royalties on using this pic. With the weather being rather quiet, let’s do a weekend sports thread, highlighting another potential defensive “challenge” (er…more like “nightmare”) for the Detroit Lions as Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and the Vikings have the next best thing to a bye week. I do predict that the Lions defense can hold the Minnesota offense to double-digits. You can watch the Notre Dame-Michigan State game on WOOD at 3:30 PM. That should be a good game and both teams need a win. Michigan (at home vs. E. Michigan at noon) and C.M.U. (hosting Alcorn State) should pick up fairly easy wins. Miami (OH) comes to W.M.U. and G.V.S.U. visits Ferris State. Michelle and I went up to Big Rapids for a Ferris game a couple years ago. Tickets are relatively cheap, you can park close, get a good seat and watch some decent football. Finally, don’t forget Football Frenzy. Jack, Jason, Larry (and anyone in the building who knows how to shoot video – seriously) will be scattered all across W. Michigan getting tape from +20 games, so tune in tonight at 10 PM on WXSP or after Leno at 11 PM on WOOD. The weather today should be awesome.
My husband won tickets to tomorrow’s WMU game but had to give them away.
As for Sunday….Go Bears!
well according to accuweather, yes they changed the long range again, we will be in the 70’s next week, not the 50’s as stated before.
they (NWS/AccuWeather/webxyz/wunderground..)all said it was a possibility and now they all have backed off, cause they all read relatively the same models, get a life…get over it…and if you had a ounce of weather knowledge you would have a clue!
awe is someone mad its not gonna get cold? sorry dude, your cold and snow will come in time, i just hope that isn’t until november. we deserve a nice warm fall after the poor excuse for a summer we had.
Im still going with 0-16. Hope not, but time will show. EH. As far as Fixxer goes,Fix this or Fix that, or fix whoever, you have to grow up some. Mite as well try to fix yourself. Any thougts on that? You are a legend in your own mind!
0-16 for a second year in a row would be one of the all time disgraceful feats in sports history.
They ARE still terrible, but I still think they’ll manage to win at least twice, maybe three times. They DO get to play the Rams at home in week 8. I’m picking that as their first win.
The Tigers are in the midst of a collapse. Sad.
At least U of M is on their way back and the Wings start soon.
I thought Bill wanted this to be a sports thread since the weather is so quiet? I say Michigan wins big! Hopefully, Denard can get into the mix to work on his passing, trick plays, etc. MSU has a fight on their hands. I say this game COULD go the Irish’s way. The Irish are mad because of they lost a very close game to Michigan. The Lions will lose. They cannot stop anybody! My Grandma could run through their defense and break a touchdown. How are they going to stop AP? If Brett comes up firing and hitting his guys, how will the Lions respond? That said, I do like Stafford, Johnson, Pettigrew, etc. They have the potential to be a very good offense.
It will be difficult to find a game this weekend that is more exciting than last week’s CMU/MSU game. As a 2x CMU grad, that was a thrilling game. That had us standing and cheering in our living room (I was so glad to find it on television)!
The Lions wasted their win for the season before the season started. They will go winless – again.
Oh, on a weather note, it is 35 degrees here and our windchill is 31. I’m expecting a couple more degree drop before sunrise. The last couple of weeks have apparently been the sunniest and warmest they have had here in the UP all summer. The sky and the great lakes have been absolutely gorgeous. Starting to get larger pockets of autumn colors as well – we are expecting quite a show!
Doctor D: You are in the UP of Michigan? DUH, right? Are you at Pictured Rocks-State Park?
I have got to get up there AGAIN! I haven’t been in many years. I want to go next summer with my family. What is it like this time of year? The views were quite breath taking!
You are in for an awesome fall display, I’m sure! Can you post photos or did you already?
Dan – when the colors get really vibrant, I will post photos. Should be gorgeous!
