Wet in Michigan and east of Rockies
<–click here to enlarge the map. Lots of wet and cool weather east of the Rockies this month. Here in Grand Rapids we’ve had a whopping 14 minutes of sunshine in the last 5 days. We’ve had at least a trace of rain seven days in a row and on 18 out of 25 days this month. We’ve had 11 days this month with 5% or less of possible sunshine and 14 days in the last month have been under 5% sun. We haven’t had any days in the last month with more than 80% sun, so no true totally sunny days. It looks like more rain tonight (esp. south of G.R.) and then another good soaking with the next front on Friday. It still looks windy and chilly for trick-or-treat.
Why should October be any different from the rest of 2009. It seems as though the entire year has been cooler/colder than normal, with quite a bit of rain/snow, especially on the weekends this past summer, as Matt’s blog pointed out last month. Let’s hope 2010 turns out to be a bit nicer.
It won’t take much for 2010 to be better than 2009. Cold, rain, cloudy days are the pits. I need to get some outdoor things in but I need at least 2 sunny or clear days to get it dry to put away. Will this happen before the snow comes?
Average high here is 55 now. Looks like we will be 4-8 degrees above average the next couple days. No complaints about that!
You know November may not be all the much below average, at least I would not be too surprised if was near to above average and not much colder then October has been.
50° and cloudy here. we still have a shot of hitting 70 or better so we will see last week I did not think we had a chance but now I think we have a good chance on Thursday.

What are you seeing that indicates a warmup coming?
If we get enough sun on Thursday we should see a good warm up, may not reach 70 but mid to upper 60’s should be in the ball park. As for after the weekend system! we should get into a more zonal flow for at least a week or so. Beyond that just get out a coin.

Looks like I am not the only one thinking November will at least have some warmer (then average) temps

I suspect Jim your correct, storm well to our west and strong southerly wind. If clouds are more than I suspect we could fall just short but will see. Our max temperature here in Breckenridge this month is 65.2 so that’s even more telling.
One thing to look at in this storm and others coming is how much snow pack they put down in the northern plains, and southern Canada, that could help the cold air to start pouring down soon. Again will see
Our weather could be worse. As Slim Jim reminded me a couple weeks ago, it was 11 years ago today, 10/27/98, that we had that early heavy snow in West Michigan that brought down trees and power lines. I was just looking at old pictures from that storm.
GRJay: ‘98? …. i remember it being 26/27 Oct ‘97
Whoops! I meant ‘97! Sorry! Which would make this the 12th anniversary.
October is making up for September in the rainfall department. I would suspect if you put September and October together we would be running pretty close to normal rainfall.
Next week looks cold enough for some snow….not a whole lot.
Havent seen this in a while..

That looks good to me LOL I hope it plays out.
