Meso for Iowa

MD 1086 graphic <–I think that’s the biggest meso-discussion that I’ve ever seen. Click on the image to read the discussion. There are strong thunderstorms getting together in Western Nebraska (four tornadoes). and others coming north out of Kansas.  Storms also firing in Iowa.   They say:  “…A large mesoscale convective system appears possible…capable of producing widespread damaging winds and hail.”   They have a tornado on the ground at Sac County Airport in Iowa.  In the next few hours we’ll see if this can all come together and start the trip east to Michigan.  MORE:  SPC says:  “Genesis of a derecho-type damaging wind event!”  SIDE NOTE:  The day before the ’98 derecho:  temperatures in the mid 80′s, mostly sunny (70% sun) and relatively light winds (average speed 7.5 mph).  Sounds like Monday’s weather.  We have a strong SW wind tomorrow PM.  At 11 PM, the temperature dewpoint at Des Moines was 85/75 and at St. Louis it was 86/77.  That’s pretty humid air – it’s going to be warm and muggy Tues. PM.

  2. fixxxer says:

i bet some thundershowers, all day clouds and low 80′s if that. unless proven otherwise this will be another bust. oh well at least we had last night. i hate hype and you guys had to know things would change in a 24hr period. long range severe outlooks are junk science just as 8 day forecasts are. night all, cant wait too see the whiners on here when i wake up.

    1. Jeff (SE Ionia County) says:

  9. johnny says:

wow!!!! that outlook looks impressive.. im a bit surprised actually.. we shouldnt be iun the moderate risk…. 10% chance of tornados!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Mike Geukes says:

  11. fixxxer says:

the first line wont be severe. i think there banking on storms later in the day. we shall see how warm it gets tomorrow. night guys

  12. dawn says:

is it true that this line won’t be severe? anyone clarify that please..

    1. Tim Walters (Holland) says:

Because there isn’t a moderate risk for severe weather, with a powerhouse of a storm, with t-storm, tornado, and flash flood warnings associated with it or anything. If you’re from Holland, you know what last year’s flood was like, and you should be able to figure this out.

      1. Mandie (Jackson MI) says:

What do you mean there isn’t a moderate risk for severe weather, we are still in the moderate risk area as of the latest update.

        1. Tim Walters (Holland) says:

I give up on sarcasm. All things point towards severe storms.

        2. Mandie (Jackson MI) says:

Sorry, I don’t catch sarcasm on the interwebs quickly at 2am in the morning.

      2. Mandie (Jackson MI) says:

ASED ON THE EXPECTED TIMING/LOCATION OF THIS MORNINGS
        ACTIVITY…OBSERVATIONAL/NUMERICAL GUIDANCE EVIDENCE SUGGEST THE
MCS-DOWNSTREAM EASTERN-SOUTHERN PERIPHERAL AIRMASS SHOULD HAVE
OPPORTUNITY TO DESTABILIZE RELATIVELY EARLY IN THE DAY ACROSS
NORTHERN PORTIONS OF IL/INDIANA INTO LOWER MI/NORTHERN OH. THIS MAY
YIELD A SUSTAINED WIND DAMAGE THREAT THROUGH THE MORNING AND/OR
CONTRIBUTE TO A RENEWED SEVERE POTENTIAL IN THESE AREAS BY EARLY
AFTERNOON. WIND DAMAGE WILL LIKELY BE THE PRIMARY CONCERN. SOME
SEVERE HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE…AND PENDING A SEMI-DISCRETE
SUPERCELLULAR MODE AWAY FROM THE EARLY DAY MCS…SOME TORNADOES WILL
        BE POSSIBLE AS WELL.

That I do believe is why we are still in the moderate risk Tim

    tornado watches out for wisconsin!

  14. Jeff (SE Ionia County) says:

  15. Nicole (West Olive) says:

Did everyone go to bed? My 2 year old just woke me up at 3:30..an hour later we are still sitting up. Not sure if I will go back to bed now, I am sure the other kids will wake me up soon according to the latest radar.

  16. Mike (mattawan) says:

Look at those colors coming over the lake!!!! GR, looks like you will be hit with VERy heavy rain and possibly some hail.

  17. Nicole (West Olive) says:

Looking at the base velocity NWS radar does that look like a water spout just off Milwaukee?

    1. Mike (mattawan) says:

I was thinking no, but comparing with other radars, it looks like it could be

  18. Mike (mattawan) says:

according to TWC… southern michigan has a 60% chance of seeing a tornado within a 50 mile radius, and that is the only fairly accurate part of TWC, and im not just saying that b/c of the situation we are in either ;)
