Kurt Russell joins cast of football drama “Touchback” as coach, not only big name involved
Coopersville High School will serve as the main filming location for “Touchback,” which is set for production in August. “Touchback” will film around the city of Coopersville and on the football field starting next month. Scenes at Coopersville High School Football Field are set for August 12, 13, 16 and 17 shooting overnight from 9:00pm to 6:00am most of the nights. Scenes will also be shot around Coopersville at numerous locations picked out by the filmmakers including a family farm and some locations in town.
59 year old Kurt Russell will play “Coach Hand”… he’s played a coach in a sports movie before – in the 2004 hockey movie “Miracle” as real-life coach Herb Brooks.
The veteran actor has starred in numerous movies like ”Death Proof” (2007), “Grindhouse” (2007), “Poseidon” (2006), “Sky High” (2005), ”3000 Miles to Graceland” (2001), “Soldier’ (1998), “Breakdown” (1997), “Escape from L.A.” (1996), “Stargate” (1994), “Tombstone” (1993), “Unlawful Entry” (1992), “Backdraft” (1991), “Tango & Cash” (1989), “Overboard” (1987), “Big Trouble in Little China” (1986), “Silkwood” (1983), “The Thing” (1982), and his breakout role “Escape from New York” (1981) as Snake Plissken.
The rest of the cast includes Brian Presley in lead role, Melanie Lynskey as his wife, Mark Blucas as a friend and teammate, Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Christine Lahti as the mother, Drew Powell, Sarah Wright, Sianoa Smit-McPhee, and Kevin Covais also star.
Touchback is being written/directed by Don Handfield.

Touchback is a fantastical story about getting a second chance at life. At the brink of financial disaster, a former football star turned farmer and family man attempts suicide to save his family. However, when he wakes up he finds himself back in the past, reliving the events that led up to his career-ending, life-altering injury. He is forced to choose between his simple life and the path to fame and fortune.
