“Potter” finale breaks records here and nationally
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″ breaks midnight records
The final chapter in the “Harry Potter” franchise is already breaking box office records… both nationally and locally.
Nationally, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two” made $43.5 million dollars in midnight shows alone.
Here in West Michigan, our area’s largest theater chain – Celebration! Cinemas tells me that there were 22,334 tickets sold for the midnight shows.
That beats the previous local midnight record set by “Twilight Eclipse” in 2010. Celebration! Cinema says that “Harry Potter” beat “Twilight Eclipse” by more than 3,600 tickets… “Twilight Eclipse” sold 18,662 tickets. Also, every theater in their circuit was sold out except for three… two auditoriums in Benton Harbor and one in Muskegon.
By 6pm Thursday night, Celebration! Cinema says that they had sold 20,649 seats for the midnight shows in their theaters … and at that time, there were only 22,000 seats available.
