Weekend Sports Thread

I’ll bet more people than usual check out the Penn St./Nebraska game. That’s two top twenty teams. That game is at Noon on ESPN. Michigan State at Iowa is on ESPN2, also at Noon. Michigan is at Illinois at 3:30 PM on ESPN and my Wisconsin Badgers travel to Minnesota for a 3:30 PM game on the Big Ten Network. In the evening, you can pick between Maryland/Notre Dame on NBC and the match-up of the day, Oregon at Stanford on WOTV4. The Lions have a big game at Soldier Field in Chicago Sunday afternoon at 4:15 PM. New England and the Jets is the Sunday Night Game on NBC. Monday Night Football on ESPN comes from Lambeau Field in Green Bay as the Vikings come to visit the Cheeseheads. We’ve also got several high school playoff games on Saturday, including home games for Rockford and Lowell…and a big matchup between East Grand Rapids and Holland.  It was dry for the MSU/NC basketball game in San Diego, but there were a few showers up past Los Angeles that I’m sure they were tracking.

Hats off to the Spartans. They showed that they can compete with anyone this year. I think they were held back by Summers and Lucas last year because of the whole Chris Allen thing. Of course, whenever you have Tom Izzo on your court side, you have a great chance to win. They made our state proud tonight. Go Green & Go Blue!

      1. Randy (SW Walker) says:

Yes- I agree. Class act by both teams with the USA on the back of the shirts instead of names – FOR OUR TROOPS!! Had to be awesome for those kids, too. Man, I LOVE OUR COUNTRY!!! BEST IN THE WORLD.

Thank you Veterans, everywhere! Thanks for your service to our country! We NEED MANY MORE days throughout the year to honor our veterans!
They are asked to put themselves in harms way for our country!!!
Go Blue, take down the Illini today. I say they get the win as Denard Robinson goes off on the Illini. The Spartans may have a bit of a dog fight with Iowa. Iowa can be tough at home. GO Lions! Thump da Bears! Make sure you keep Cutler running for his life, D-Line!!!

    1. Chuck R. in Paw Paw says:

And back to his MTV girlfriend! Go Lions! Go Blue! And congrats to the Paw Paw Redskins, whose fine season ended last night with a loss to Zeeland West. Go Skins!

  6. Randy (SW Walker) says:

  7. Mike in Hamilton says:

Time to whip out the “wheels off” photo for the Lions!!!

    1. Irish coffee says:

“Wheels off” – no kidding!… how about just a pic showing the rest of their schedule for the year- OUCH!

  8. Dan says:

Lions got throttled! What happened? I thought you were supposed to play better coming off a bye week! Matthew Stafford did not throw the ball well at all. What was with those gloves he was wearing?
They need to come back and make a strong statement! Then, they have Green Bay for the Thanksgiving Day game. C’mon, LIONS!

    1. Ned S. (Now in North Holland) says:

I agree Dan. This defeat really ticked me off. The defense played well enough to win. The offense was simply horrible. Dropped passes, poorly thrown passes, Stafford with “Happy feet,” etc. I absolutely detest the Bears, so this one really hurts. The lions offense looked totally unprepared after a week off. They are shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to a playoff spot. “Nuff said!”
