Bowl-Playoff Sports Thread

Michigan State game starting now on WOTV4 from Tampa.  The weather/snow threads continue below.  Here’s a summary of the Lions/Packers game.  Did anyone bet ahead of the season that the Packers only loss would be against Kansas City, a team with a losing record that only won one game by more than 7 points?  The Lions had a couple of bad calls go against them Sunday.   The secondary needs to ramp up.  The Packers back-up quarterback was 31 of 44 for 480 yards and 6 touchdowns with a 136.4 rating.   With protection, Drew Brees could have a fun game and we could see a lot of points on the scoreboard.  The Lions/Saints game is on WOOD-TV Saturday at 8 PM.   There are six bowl games today (Mon.) and five of them feature teams from the Big Ten.  Michigan State takes the field against Georgia in the Outback Bowl at 1 PM on WOTV4.  That should be a good game.  My alma mater (Wisconsin) is in the Rose Bowl for the 5th time since 1994 (they lost last year to TCU 21-19).   We’ll have local news/weather at 5 PM on WOTV4 and at 6 PM on WOOD, so flip over to us or split screen to get updated weather.  I’m working the evening shift M-F this week.  Oregon is a slight favorite in that game.  Michigan takes on Virginia Tech Tuesday night at 8:30 PM on ESPN.

Yes, tough loss for the Lions. The loss wasn’t the Offense’s fault. The defense had better learn to stop somebody before going to New Orleans. They get Delmas back so, that should help their pourous secondary! Hopefully, if the Lions CAN stop somebody, get up early on the Saints and not hurt themselves, they have a shot. Great bowl games to watch today! I say the Spartans and Bulldogs will be a close game. I think Wisconsin gets it done in the Rose Bowl, could also be a very close game against Oregon.
Lets go BLUE on Tuesday night! Wolverins SHOULD win against the Hokies (Wild Turkeys)

Dan, you’re absolutely correct. The offense was great, although there were some critical dropped passes by all of the receivers. On the other hand, they made some incredible catches too. But the defensive secondary was torched repeatedly, and the greatly touted D-Line didn’t do much to get to Flynn either. Winning in the big easy ain’t gonna be easy for the Lions or anyone else for that matter.

Suh and company need to generate a formidable pass rush on Brees. If Suh is double teamed, VandenBosh or someone should be able to get in on Brees! We also need a pick or two. Then, we have a shot. I think Gun played a vanilla defense against Green Bay in Lambeau. The defense should play better!
The Lions have a shot but they cannot hurt themselves. All must go WELL!
Then, anything can happen. Could you imagine what it would be like if the Lions pulled the upset? Remember that Stafford passed for 400 yards and a TD the last time they played!

Still mad that the refs killed the lions yesterday with a lanta lost did not matter for the 5th spot butt still Greenbay has been lucky all year Get ready saints linos are ready to roarrraaa yaaaaaa..My Colts should go after Luck Manning will make him a great NFL player Michigan back to the BCS bowl what a great day for football GO BLUE GO LIIONS GO WINGS GO BILL!!! INDYY

  4. Dan says:

Yes, INDY! I concur. The refs jipped the Lions out of at least 11 points.
There was one TD by Titus Young that didn’t count. He clearly had a foot down and dragged the other in the end zone! Also, how can that not be a fumble by Green Bay? Go back and look at that. The Lions are the subject of the refs just not liking them. Suh has NOT been the player he was at the beginning of this season. I’m NOT talking about the stomp but rather his dominance at the position he plays!
I’m with you though, GO BLUE, GO LIONS, GO WINGS, GO BILL, GO BLOGGERS!

Bill, sounds a little braggy about Wisconsin – be careful! Some things are better kept secret! :)
The Lion’s D-line mailed it in Sunday, and their quarterback showed up out of nowhere. He probably did better than Rodgers would have!! GreenBay rested a few players but not many (and some of those were really hurt anyway), and if I were them I’m be concerned about surrendering 41 points to any team if they expect to do well in January. Stafford picked them apart yesterday, so just imagine what Brees, Brady et al will do! I agree with the blogger above who said they’ve been lucky all season (and the Lions have been a little unlucky – for example they really won the game yesterday, but didn’t get the touchdown by Young counted).
