February 3rd, 2012 at 4:19 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

One year ago, most of the schools were closed and we were digging out of the Groundhog Day Blizzard.   My local groundhog (“Blizzard Bill”) got up, took one look at the computer models and promptly fell back asleep.   The maps were that boring.   The overall warm and dry pattern will continue.  This morning we have a few spots with clear skies and many spots with either low, stratus clouds or some fog.   The sun is still at a fairly low angle, so it’ll have to work hard for awhile to mix out (with drier air) the clouds and fog.  There’s a snowstorm going on from Nebraska into Iowa.   It looks at this point like it’s aiming for W. Michigan, but this system will weaken and rain and mixed precipitation to our south across Illinois and Indiana.  Thunderstorms will rumble from Kansas to the Gulf of Mexico…with possible tornadoes.   The overnight models have backed off on the strength of the cold air for late next week.  We’ll probably see a few snow showers and a return of near normal temperatures for a couple days.   Bill Marino of the GRR NWS looked up the 14 times when we significantly warmer temperatures in both Dec. and Jan.  He found that usually we continue the warm pattern in February (only 3 of 14 Febs. were colder than average).  However, that reversed in March, where only 3 were warm, five were near average and 6 were cooler than average.   The death toll from the bitter cold air in Europe continues to climb, now at 164.    Heavy snow will fall in the mountains of central Italy into Bosnia and SerbiaMuch of Europe and Western Asia remain much colder than average.  Bucharest, Romania was 20 degrees colder than average over the past week, with 6 of the last 7 nights below zero.  Warsaw, Poland had a high of +4F Thursday.  Their average high is 32.  Look at the map of record temperatures.   It’s an ever changing number, but right now record lows outnumber record highs by a 50:1 margin!  Finally, you might be interested in this take on the movie Groundhog Day.  Picture this year and last year on Groundhog Day by Bob on Reportit.

Maybe a good day to get the truck washed. That will bring rain or snow for sure :-)

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I was thinking the same thing because I don’t know what color my car is any more, I think burgandy but I’ll have to have it washed to be sure. I just hope we don’t end up having a cold spring/summer and we get a lot of thunderstorms, not just a rumble but mother natures M80 storms with disco lights lighting and they don’t miss me. But I’m sure they will like they have time/time again year after year. That is ok, as long as it’s not cold and rainy like 2009 that will be fine, I get almost as much joy reading the blogs of my fellow bloggers getting severe weather. I have a feeling it’ll be a decent spring/summer and not cold, I hope I’m right!

  2. Nathan (GR) says:

I am really excited for spring now! I do really miss the snow, it feels like we had no winter at all……. Maybe on more HUGE blizzard? But by late march and early April, I want all of thee snow to go and the severe thunderstorms in!

  3. DaveM says:

Bill that was a great story you linked to for the film Groundhog’s Day. It’s one of my favorite films as well, but I never realized how much people read into the story. I got the basic redemption theme but WOW the levels some people saw in this film were really surprising. Thanks for sharing that article.

  4. Tim says:

It’s just been the winter that never really found us. Sure we had a few times that we had snow and below tempts. I think in other years that we were locked into a pattern much the same as this year we always had a two week stretch that was artic cold and snowy. This year just not so much so. I can’t say I’m ready for spring because it just has not felt like we ever had winter. I still hold out hope that we might see one good hard week of winter. (next few weeks don’t look promising) Once March comes I think I’ll be ready to just sign off on the season that never was.

My hope is we don’t have a cold and wet March and April like last year. Last spring I was doing my best to get ready for a cross country bike ride and only had a few hundred miles of training in before I started.

  5. I read the take on Groundhog Day – The groundhog is Jesus? Well, why doesn’t he go back into his hole for 3 days then instead of 6 weeks? HAHA. Interesting allegory, but I don’t really see the comparison…

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

Your comment (very funny, by the way!) made me read the link. Sheesh – I sure missed all the allegory – I’ll have to watch the movie again WITHOUT a roomful of kids!!

  6. Travis (Oxford, MI) says:

Mild weekend, couple days around normal temps, then mild again. CPC has us back in above average temps in their 8-14 day now.

It’s starting to look like we’ve definitely turned the corner already on winter. Usually, that’s not til middle/end of February.

  7. Dan says:

Winter is coming back for a few days? I sure hope we get a couple of decent dumps before winter gives up the ghost!
Mild start this am, I think it was 35 judging from the car thermometer!
Do we see the sun today? What has been our percentage for sunny days this season? Seems we have seen the sun more this winter which is rare as the lack of snow this Winter.

    1. fixxxer says:

Where do you live dan? Its been cloudy almost every day this winter.

  8. Paul says:

Winter is all over i just put up my snowblower for the year.

    1. Tim says:

I was looking at mine this morning and thinking the same thing. I used itonce this year. Then I think, it’s only Feb 3. I want to hold out till the first week of March.

  9. Allendale says:

I hope this summer is cool and stays around 70 for an average

    1. fixxxer says:

      Umm no thanks!

      1. fixxxer says:

        70 for night time lows.

  10. Jennifer says:

The picture posted was taken by me.. this is outside my house. I cant believe the difference in the weather but we are in Michigan right! Im not a big fan of old man winter, I will take a winter like this one any year!! :D

  11. INDY says:

Mid 50′s and low 60′s for the BIG game in INDY this week’nd !!!! Thee grill will be going strong and sprites will going down good!!! Super week’nd starts now!!! GO GIANTS… INDYYY

  12. Dan says:

INDY: I say the Michigan man, Tom Brady gets the win in a very close game!
    Something like 28-24!
If the Giants can get to Brady, then yes Giants will win! Should be a great game!

  13. INDY says:

Dan Tom Brady is about the only pat I like yes a MICHIGAN BOY!! being a Colt fan it’s hard to like the pats!!! I just hope the game will be good.. Great town to have the superbowl in I have been there many of times they now how to throw a party down in INDY what a great city!!!weather looks great…INDYYY

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

My mom is in Indy this weekend, her male friend is working the Superbowl and they are making it a weekend out in town, but she isn’t staying for the game but the activities that are going on down there is amazing she said. She originally is a hoosier anyway. We’ll be having a turkey superbowl dinner this Sunday having MIL and hopefully Great Grandma over as well. Should be a good weekend, going to KZoo tomorrow, superbowl home Sunday.

  14. Stephen says:

    This weather is so BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!

  15. Bnoppe says:

The groundhog is wrong, winter is over

  16. kevin. w says:

WOW new euro weeklies have a blow torch in the east all the way till the first part of march. The NAEFS model has the warmer air back in the east all the way till the end of FEB. but has a cool (not cold) spell coming next weekend. Still think will see snow but it will be the wet variety and will warm up a few days after the storm passes. Spring is on the way and I think severe weather season is going to be a doozie!

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

WOOO HOOOO I sure hope so Kevin, maybe it won’t be so boring this spring/summer, granted that being said I DO NOT want any devastation that we witnesses last spring/summer, that was sad I like the loud heart pounding jaw dropping thunderstorm, but absolutely no devastation or lives lost. I just love when mother nature gives us a loud lighting display of different flashes.

      1. fixxxer says:

        Remember the bubble.

        1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

How can I forget I’m reminded every time there is a storm and it V’s away from Kent county. Everythings that is “doozie” will be SW or SE again this year.

  17. Steelie says:

    Good Day,

I am starting my garden this weekend… indoors of course. Tomato, pepper, artichoke and maybe some lettuce or spinach. Think Spring…

    Steelie

  18. fixxxer says:

I hope this summer is a scorcer!

  19. Here’s one of my videos of the Groundhog Day Blizzard 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_xDhSJ5yD4

BTW I’m in Greenville now! :D

  20. Bernie (at da lakeshore) says:

I see people are trying to jinx our nice weather today! :)
I am not geting my hopes up because I know better. This is Michigan.
Spring will come on the second week of April as usual.
I am just glad spring is close enought I won’t have to worry about a roofbusting snowfall that needs helecopter rescues like they are currently having in Bosnia.
    it could have been us!

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Nice weather? It’s overcast here not even a break to see any kind of sun.

  21. INDY says:

BRING ON THE SUPER BOWL THIS WEEK’ND!!! INDYYY

  22. Storm waning says:

For the life of me I will never figure out the logic of winter waiting in the wings and then jumping out and having “blizzards” in April. More people have a fear of “oh man….. Snow in June at this rate”

    am I missing something?

    1. Ned S. (Now in South Holland) says:

Is it “Storm Warning” or “Storm Waning?” Just curious as both are plausible. No offense intended.

  23. Irish coffee says:

Latest euro has some “chilly” 850′s for next Fri/Sat………..decent LES outbreak w/ cyclonic flow ftw

  24. SlimJim NW GR (1) says:

As of right now the winter of 2011/12 is in the top 5 warmest winters in west Michigan!

    http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=grr&storyid=78610&source=0

And depending on how February turns out we could take the number one spot in GR as February in 1932 was colder then that January. One thing to look forward to is that all of the top 5 warmest winters in all three cities the following summer was also on the warm side. So that is some thing to look for.
    SlimJim

    1. Travis (Oxford, MI) says:

Nice find. 2nd warmest winter ever for GR thru Jan, and Feb so far is looking just as mild. We could still end up #1 yet!

  25. big Daddy BC says:

Warmest winter here, and the worldwide ocean surface temperature for January 2011 was the 11th warmest January on record, at 0.63°F above the 20th century average of 60.5°F. When the ocean’s warm, precip goes up. Worldwide the land surface temp is up by almost a whole degree on average. It may be cold in a few places, but overall, we’re significantly above average in the ocean and on land. NOAA just named 2011 the eleventh hottest year on record worldwide. They also say “The 2011 globally-averaged precipitation over land was the second wettest year on record, behind 2010.” That’s amazing considering that the North American South experienced its worst drought ever. Lake beds were catching fire in Florida! It’s amazing that all we see on this blog is how cold it is. LOL
    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2011/13

    1. Bill Steffen says:

LOL – 2nd warmest winter in G.R., not the warmest. Here’s the global sea-surface temperature anomaly map: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/data/sst/anomaly/2012/anomnight.2.2.2012.gif Everyone reading this please look at the map at the link. Now, blue is water that is colder than average and yellow is water that is warmer than average. This is from NASA and NOAA…satellite and buoy data. Really, does that look like the “11th warmest in history”?? Really?? Emperor’s new clothes!!! LOL Now compare the drought of 1934 with this year’s drought: http://www.real-science.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/1934vs2012.gif Not even close!!! Now look at the current global world temperature from NASA IR data: http://policlimate.com/weather/current/raw_temp_c.html It says “Global Anomaly -0.153 degree”. Here’s another source: http://media.reason.com/mc/_external/2012_02/7d5c2554d1cbf03712833d8010345697.png?h=318&w=550 Global temperatures BELOW AVERAGE!! It’s getting COLDER, Pinocchio…global temperature is BELOW AVERAGE…HUNDREDS DYING FROM THE COLD IN EASTERN EUROPE! And you want us to pay BILLIONS to make it colder so more people will die http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/death-toll-rises-in-europe-cold-snap/story-e6frfku0-1226261983741 …and more manatees http://articles.cnn.com/2010-02-12/us/manatee.cold.weather_1_young-manatees-manatee-population-female-manatee?_s=PM:US …and more lizards http://www.tampabay.com/news/environment/wildlife/once-ubiquitous-floridas-brown-lizards-scarce-after-cold-winter/1087157 …and more zoo animals in Chihuahua! http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/mexico/110207/mexico-zoo-animals-dead La Nina, cold PDO, weak solar cycle…YOU LOSE BIG D – YOU LOSE, LOSE, LOSE!!!

    2. big Daddy BC says:

My link is from NOAA too, and it doesn’t force you interpret average temps by looking at anomalies that are coded for with colors. In science, Bill, we like to actually quantify before we draw conclusions. Follow my link to a climate summary with actual numbers. NOAA just named 2011 the eleventh hottest year on record worldwide. They also say “The 2011 globally-averaged precipitation over land was the second wettest year on record, behind 2010.” You must think your viewers are brain dead. You’re right though, I do lose. That part is that we ALL do.

      http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2011/13

      1. Bill Steffen says:

Here’s the story without the spin: The “adjusted” global temperature for 2011 was LESS THAN ONE DEGREE FAHRENHEIT above the 20th century average. The “adjusted” temperature of 2011 was cooler than 2010 and in fact COOLER than 10 of the 12 years since 2000. In 2011, the Antarctic icecap grew at nearly a record rate (compare now to one year ago): http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/S_timeseries.png Now compare the temperature from 1934 in the U.S. (where we can actually compare thermometer readings rather than guess what the temperature as like over the oceans, at the Poles and in other remote areas without data): http://0.tqn.com/d/weather/1/0/Y/0/-/-/01-12-1934Statewidetrank-pg.gif to 2011: http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&gbv=2&biw=1152&bih=672&tbm=isch&tbnid=06VATKW8Wbpu7M:&imgrefurl=http://www.wjla.com/blogs/weather/2012/01/record-warmth-in-2011-for-select-cities-14182.html&docid=WJJFj72HrxIOiM&imgurl=http://images.tbd.com/weather/2011_state_record.jpg&w=650&h=534&ei=5rwsT4SfB8PqOfm0rIAO&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=129&vpy=276&dur=341&hovh=203&hovw=248&tx=146&ty=103&sig=101147401651601815233&page=4&tbnh=151&tbnw=186&start=55&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:55 Right now the global temperature is below average (note the global anomaly): http://policlimate.com/weather/current/raw_temp_c.html Last year was the 51st warmest year (right in the middle) for Australia (again, where we have reliable temperature data for the past century): http://joannenova.com.au/2012/01/2011-was-51st-warmest-year-in-australia/ Hundreds of people are dying from the cold: http://www.euronews.net/2012/02/03/more-than-200-dead-in-europe-s-big-chill/ and look at this from the Washington Post on the “mind boggling, historic cold” in Alaska: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/post/coldest-january-on-record-for-parts-of-alaska/2012/01/31/gIQAQVyIfQ_blog.html NOAA/NASA shows the cooler than average ocean water in blue: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/data/sst/anomaly/2012/anomnight.2.2.2012.gif

        1. big Daddy BC says:

No matter how many right-wing links you post, the facts cannot be changed. NOAA has plainly stated that 2011 was the eleventh hottest year in history, period. Your ridiculous accusation about adjustments and record ice caps are laughable. Here’s what NOAA has to say about the Arctic, http://www.climate.gov/#climateWatch/videos You sound desperate, honestly. This will end up being the warmest Michigan winter of all time after you predicted a colder than average one. I saw a pair of Trumpeter Swans just the other day for God’s sake. Arguing that climate change isn’t real while standing outside in the beginning of February in a t-shirt grilling sounds like an SNL skit to me. LOL Keep trying, Weatherman.

        2. Bill Steffen says:

That fact is that 2011 was only the 9th warmest year (2nd coolest year) of the last 12 years! Even with your dubious “adjusted” data. The truth is that global temperatures are NOT increasing now: http://stevengoddard.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/trend-24.png Dr. Judith Curry from the BEST group at Berkeley that you have cited several times as a source said this: ‘There is no scientific basis for saying that warming hasn’t stopped,’ she said. ‘To say that there is detracts from the credibility of the data, which is very unfortunate.’

Here’s the current global sea surface temperature anomaly map: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/data/sst/anomaly/anomnight.current.gif Does that look like the “11th warmest in history”? LOL The global temperature from the NASA IR data says the Earth is COLDER THAN AVERAGE: http://www.drroyspencer.com/wp-content/uploads/UAH_LT_current.gif Same here…slightly cooler than average: http://policlimate.com/weather/current/raw_temp_c.html

        3. big Daddy BC says:

…More activist links and an ambiguous map. In science we like to quantify things. Your badly lacking scientific background is becoming a real hinderance to this discussion. I’ve taught you all about the properties of water and how with the increased humidity and exposed ocean water how energy can be absorbed without raising air temperature. Look up the term Specific Heat and study up. I don’t mind tutoring you, but you’ve got to do your homework!

        6. Bill Steffen says:

Dr. Curry is an activist? She’s part of the BEST group from Berkeley that YOU cited!! LOL!! 2011 was the 3rd COOLEST year out of the last 12, even using your adjusted data. The globe is now cooler than average!! Remember what Trenberth said: “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t”. Even your side admits the “lack of warming”. It’s 4th down and 25, bigD, bring out your punter.

  26. Bill Steffen says:

And wait until I show you what the liberals at MSNBC said about our governor! It’ll make you’re head spin! MSNBC!! Boy, has this been a bad week for you global warming alarmists!! LOL!!

  27. big Daddy BC says:

More name calling, Mr. Steffen? When are you going to start acting like a professional?

    1. big Daddy BC says:

Snyder’s tax plan was just evaluated by the Michigan League for Human Services. Here’s a sample of what they found:
“Snyder’s tax reforms will “hit poor families 1,000 times harder than wealthy households”:
The League released a report that says the tax plan will hit poor families 1,000 times harder than wealthy households. Families making less than $17,000 a year would pay one percent more in taxes in 2012, while families making more than $334,000 would see their taxes go up by only .001 percent, the report states.
Gilda Jacobs, president and CEO of the League, wants to see a fair tax structure that doesn’t hit the poor harder than the wealthy.
“We want to be sure that we have shared sacrifice.” she says. “If you’re making $17,000 a year, this is going cost you about $100. That’s a lot of money to these people. That’s a car payment, that’s a winter utility bill. It’s huge.”

In what world do the working poor have to pay 1000X more taxes than the rich?! People like you, Mr. Steffen, will go tax free during the next fiscal year. Congratulations.

      1. big Daddy BC says:

I should say, your taxes will not go up. WOOD TV, however, will pay ZERO taxes. What a shame.

        1. Bill Steffen says:

I tell you what…if you can prove WOOD-TV pays zero taxes…I’ll give you $1,000 – but if I can prove WOOD-TV does pay taxes – you give me $1,000. Whatcha say bigD?

        2. big Daddy BC says:

Let’s be clear. What we’re talking about is the next fiscal year when the GOP policies take effect. And we’re also only talking about those Michigan taxes defined under the new legislation. WOOD TV is owned by LIN Media, and LIN will operate tax-free under this governor. It’s wealthiest TV personality, you, will enjoy a .001 increase while all of its middle-class viewers will experience a 1000x greater increase in taxes. Fact. In addition, the good governor has eliminated all kinds of write-offs like donating a car to your church, for example. These are sad times we’re living in.

        3. Bill Steffen says:

You said: “WOOD TV, however, will pay ZERO taxes.” Let’s have a bet. We’ll each give $1,000 (or you name the sum) to an impartial source. I’ll prove that WOOD pays taxes and I get the money. You prove what you wrote above and you get the money. Simple. Or did you lie again when you wrote that??

        4. big Daddy BC says:

The Michigan Business Tax has been replaced with a 6% Corporate Income Tax. This will only apply to companies that file as “C” corporations effective January 1, 2012. “C” corporation refers to any corporation that, under United States income tax law, is taxed separately from its owners. It is distinguished from an S corporation, which is not taxed separately. Most major companies (and many smaller companies) are treated as “C” corporations for U.S. income tax purposes. Unless I’ve missed my guess, WOOD’s parent company, LIN Media is a “C” corporation and therefore exempt from that 6% Corporate Income Tax along with 100,000 other companies. You, on the other hand, will receive a .001% increase in taxes to make up for that shift while middle class and working poor will see an increase 1000x greater, literally! This governor has fixed the tax code so that working people are again bailing out the wealthy.

I’d love to take that bet, Bill, but I don’t make the six figures you do and can’t afford the tax hike. …Maybe after Snyder gets recalled.
          http://michiganrising.org/

        5. Bill Steffen says:

You said “WOOD TV, however, will pay ZERO taxes.” Exact quote. If you don’t like $1,000, how about $100 – surely, a programmer can afford that, especially since you’re so sure of yourself.

Your recall failed again! http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CEQQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miweekly.com%2Fnews%2F85-detroit%2F4097-politics-state-snyder-recall-effort-fails-again&ei=DZEwT42_CoL8ggfR4Ji_BQ&usg=AFQjCNHghFgPRdFtztkhj6UxGTxhG-ZtNg What a waste of time and effort. You could have used that money to help balance the books at the Muskegon Heights Public Schools…for the children.

        6. big Daddy BC says:

Look, we lowly programmers don’t rake in the six figures political activists like yourself do. I do have a running bet with Irish Coffee, however. He bet that your winter forecast was right and that mine was wrong. He side with you on a cooler than average winter. LOL I said, as I’m sure you recall, that it would be warm and wetter than average. I haven’t heard from Irish Coffee in months. He barely comments anymore. I wonder why? LOL I should really think about changing careers. The funny part is that you based your forecast on the unscience people like Exxon Spencer and that idiot Bastardi do. Exxon is lying to you, old timer. Wake up and smell the methane.

        7. Bill Steffen says:

You’re “forecast” was a guess. You have no scientific training. Like I said, it falls into the “even a broken clock is right twice a day”.

Now back to some real science. Here’s two more scientists who have given up on global warming alarmism: http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2012/02/07/two-more-scientists-change-sides-in-the-agw-debate/

Death toll now over 400 in Europe: http://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/death-toll–tops-400-in-europes-big-freeze-20120208-1raq5.html Heckuva way to run a global warming disaster!

      2. Bill Steffen says:

HA! All you can do is cut and paste. You just grabbed that comment from Think Progress: http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/02/02/417160/report-michigan-tax-1000-poor/?mobile=nc Think Progress is a far-left blog funded by the ultra-leftist George Soros and headed up by Faiz Shakir, who has been trying to build a mosque by Ground Zero in NY. He’s probably you’re hero, bigD.

Bloomberg notes that Michigan’s economy has turned around under Snyder and we’re doing much better than the other states: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-11-02/michigan-surpassing-48-states-shows-autos-drive-u-s-recovery.html

The Michigan economy is improving at a better rate than most other states: http://www.lsa.umich.edu/econ/news/ci.umforecastmichigantoendyearwithmorejobstue22nov2011_ci.detail Your recall campaign against Snyder was a BIG FAIL: http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/08/recall-mich-gov-rick-snyder-fails-group-still-trying

Democrat Andy Dillon said the state’s new tax structure “ is simple, fair and efficient and gives Michigan businesses a clear picture of their tax liability.”

        1. big Daddy BC says:

I told you where I got that data, the Michigan League for Human Services. Regardless of whether other sites were using or not, it’s true. Why should the working poor have their taxes raised 1000x higher than wealthy people like you, Mr. Bill Steffen?

Andy Dillon is only a democrat on paper. He votes republican on almost every issue. He’s in Snyder’s pocket. And in case you hadn’t heard, the campaign to remove Snyder is far from over.
          http://michiganrising.org/
Michigan’s recovery was well under way before Snyder took office. Unemployment went down every month of 2010. What Snyder’s enjoying is the national recovery. Unemployment is down to 8.3%. 243,000 jobs were added last month alone! In case you hadn’t heard, your super wealthy mormon candidate, Romney is having a very hard time making a case against Obama because the President’s policies are working. Fact is, Obama fixed the auto industry and that’s what’s helping Michigan, not Snyder’s tax increases on the middle class and working poor, not the fleecing of Michigan’s schools, or the attack on labor.
          http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/04/us/politics/improved-job-picture-poses-risks-to-obama-and-romney.html

        2. Bill Steffen says:

MSNBC – that’s a liberal network! And look at what they say: “New Federal Reserve data now show that Michigan’s economic recovery is on track to outpace ALL 50 STATES! That sure didn’t happen when Granholm was governor! Go here: http://www.bls.gov/eag/eag.mi.htm The Michigan unemployment rate was 11.1% the last month Granholm was governor. It was 9.3% after 12 months of Governor Snyder and the new fairer, simpler tax code. More jobs means more taxes will be paid. It means more money will be spent at our restaurants and stores. Michigan best of all 50 states! Woo Hoo! Now, we’ve got to stop you guys from making our utility rates “skyrocket”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNSZ62xiD4M That’s what would really hurt the poor, the middle class, the elderly, those on disability, and children.

        3. big Daddy BC says:

Holy smokes! Unemployment went down every single month of 2010. Snyder’s riding Granholm’s coat tails. He’s also enjoying the Obama national recovery. He’s the least popular governor in the entire country for a reason. He’s raised taxes on the middle class, lowered or completely eliminated them on people like you (the rich), gutted public education, taxed pensions, weakened labor rights, and effected an absolutist regime complete with Emergency Managers. Corporate-owned MSNBC can say whatever they like. The people of Michigan are hurting and this right-wing nut isn’t helping anyone but the wealthy (YOU). I can see why you’re pleased.

        4. Bill Steffen says:

HA! February 2001 – Michigan unemployment at 4.5%. We went from the lower half of the states in unemployment to the worst in the country nine years! We did worse than ANY OTHER STATE. Now we’re doing BETTER than every other state! Wow! Even liberal MSNBC thinks so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CCTwob_p18 Democrat Andy Dillon says that Michigan now has a “fairer, simpler tax code”. It’s going to attract business and grow jobs. It’s about time someone cared about private sector small business. Michigan is moving forward now and others are taking notice: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-11-02/michigan-surpassing-48-states-shows-autos-drive-u-s-recovery.html

        5. big Daddy BC says:

Doing better than every other state? LOL …A perfect example of you your dishonest nature. Last I checked the unemployment rate was lower everywhere else than here. Michigan’s in the toilet. Rich people like you are doing quite well, especially since Snyder only raised YOUR taxes by .001% while raising them on the poor and middle class by 1000x more than that. Holy smokes, you lie worse than you forecast.

        6. Bill Steffen says:

Check the links in my above comment. Even MSNBC is praising Gov. Snyder! This is what MSNBC said:

“New Federal Reserve data now show that Michigan’s economic recovery is on track to outpace all 50 states!”

That’s MSNBC, not Fox News! They sure didn’t say that about Granholm.

    2. Bill Steffen says:

Check this out from MSNBC no less: “New Federal Reserve Data now show that Michigan’s economic recovery is on track to outpace all 50 states!” That’s the lead in to an interview with Governor Snyder. Unemployment went from the lower half of all states to WORST of any state under the last governor. Check out the interview here: http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/death-toll-rises-in-europe-cold-snap/story-e6frfku0-1226261983741 Andrea Mitchell gives Gov. Snyder a “Congratulations!” And…Democrat Andy Dillon says Michigan’s Emergency Manager law works: http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2011/12/michigan_treasurer_andy_dillon.html Hope we can get an EM soon to help those poor kids in Muskegon Heights.

      1. big Daddy BC says:

Again, Andy Dillon is only a democrat on paper. He votes republican on almost every issue. He’s in Snyder’s pocket. The Emergency Manager bill will be recalled. The effort has collected almost a 400,000 signatures from Michigan citizens. Michigan does not want an autocratic system. We believe that representation is a constitutional right. It’s unamerican for a governor to be able to take over a city like Muskegon Heights, fire its elected officials, sell off its property, break its contracts, and use the $ to pay some Emergency Manager six figures. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but Emergency Managers have only been used in predominately African American communities. I think that’s a problem even if you don’t. It smells racist.

        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/17/emergency-manager-repeal-petition-signatures_n_1210833.html

        1. Bill Steffen says:

Muskegon Heights ASKED for an emergency manager: http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2011/12/muskegon_heights_call_for_emer.html The Emergency Manager in Benton Harbor has community support: http://articles.wsbt.com/2011-04-28/benton-harbor_29485035

Wow! Even liberal MSNBC is congratulating Governor Snyder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CCTwob_p18

        2. big Daddy BC says:

…Another African-American community taken over by our lilly white governor.

        3. Bill Steffen says:

A racist remark, bigD…you wouldn’t care if Snyder were black? Remember Muskegon Heights ASKED for an E.M. Even if an E.M. is appointed, they asked. Go back and click on my links in the comment above.

        4. big Daddy BC says:

A racist policy, Bill. It’s unamerican, unconstitutional, and racist.

        5. Bill Steffen says:

The African-American Emergency Manager for Benton Harbor was appointed by Jennifer Granholm: http://articles.wsbt.com/2011-04-28/benton-harbor_29485035 Benton Harbor pastors support the changes. NPR says “Things are looking up for Benton Harbor”: http://michiganradio.org/post/3-reasons-things-are-looking-city-benton-harbor. Muskegon Heights ASKED Gov. Snyder for an Emergency Manager. It hasn’t happened yet, but if it does, they ASKED for and E.M.

    3. big Daddy BC says:

You deleted your name-calling post. That’s hilarious!

  28. I declare Bill the winner. Granted, “Big Daddy” (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0142342/) was a good movie in my opinion though.

  29. Skot says:

I still call him “DICK BITER” instead of rick snyder.

    1. big Daddy BC says:

      LOL

      1. Bill Steffen says:

Eww! You made me watch 5 1/2 minutes of Rachel Maddow?! She just ranted…for over 5 1/2 minutes! Wouldn’t it have been better if she had guests…tried to at least get a sound bite from Joe Harris, or the current mayor…or someone that offered a solution to the fiscal mess that town is in? …Better yet, various solutions. The new development would bring tax money to the city and provide jobs (I was a caddy for five summers). The UAW owns a golf course: http://blacklakegolf.com/ …maybe more than one. Freedom? The SEIU forced 60,000 health care “workers” into the union without a vote. Is that freedom? http://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/16413

        1. big Daddy BC says:

What the heck does owning a golf course have to with constitutional rights being stolen by an authoritarian governor? Maybe you should watch it again. The point was that the governor is stealing a park that was donated to the city and turning it into a country club. …That the elected officials in that town were all but fired. …That Snyder’s EM declared himself Mayor, City Council and Boss Hog all wrapped up into one.

        2. Bill Steffen says:

The union’s rich – they own a country club. Occupy UAW!! The African-American Emergency Manager for Benton Harbor was appointed by Jennifer Granholm: http://articles.wsbt.com/2011-04-28/benton-harbor_29485035 Benton Harbor pastors support the changes.
