Latest model data – Thurs. AM update
Update – the 00Z Thurs. NAM still only gives G.R. 1/4″ to 1/2″ of snow Friday, but 1/2″ to 1″ Saturday night. The 00Z GFS would give us 1/2″-3/4″ of snow Friday and another 2″ from late Monday into Tuesday. The European is still stronger with Friday at about 2″ of snow and another inch next Monday night. Anyway it’s enough for some slick spots on the roads. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine today. The pattern is a little colder from Friday into the middle of next week. Full moon again tonight. Venus will shine brightly to in the WSW in the evening, with Jupiter more to the SSW. Here’s ISS flyovers (nothing tonight, but a couple of good flyovers next week). Check out this picture of the full moon rising in Maine last night. For being so close to a solar maximum, the sun is unusually quiet. In other news, Afghanistan is experiencing its coldest and snowiest weather in the last 15 years. (picture from “sandiaa” on Report it. View full size here.)
Everyone will have to re-learn winter driving techniques, it appears.
Good luck to those that never have.
Another day with no snow storm and a another day closer to recording one of the WORST WINTERS ever!! Pathetic!
Great winter you mean!
Best.Winter.Ever.
As for the snow on Friday, GR will not even see an inch of snow out of this BRIEF event. Too bad because with the cold air in place the snow will not melt very fast. If I want to go snowmobiling I will need to drive all the way up to the Gaylord area. Ridiculous!
I am heading up to Munising tomorrow in search for some snow. Hope we find it!
You should find enough snow up there. I would guess a good foot of snow is on the ground currently and they will be getting more snow this weekend!! Have fun!
Go to http://www.munisingsnow.com and they will give you a report…I know they are still grooming the trails all over the U.P. Have fun…..but be safe.
)
RJ and you other snowmobile guys…Come on up to Lakeview and watch BEVRA vintage snowmobile oval racing on Tamarack Lake. Not the same as riding, but better than sitting at home. No charge to watch and there are some pretty awesome sleds running.
Looks like we should have well over 150 entries this Saturday.
Bill still looking good for a storm around the 17th snow storm that is….INDYY
BORING
For your info. a couple of computer models are pointing toward the end of next for a major storm coming but the track is quite uncertain at this point. One track has it going from the Oklahoma to chicago to Detroit(a good foot or more maybe 15 inches)and another goes from Colorado to Iowa to northern wisconsin (rain-freezing rain-light snow). Another storm could bring much warmer air the week of 20th with thunderstorms, major tornado outbreak south and if we get all the snow then will have flooding issues (check your sump pumps) just for anyone out there that wants to know. Let the spring fun begin.
Thanks for the info, however I have lost all faith in the models and the mets telling me that we will be seeing above average snowfall this winter. I hope that we see a major synoptic snow event or two, however I will believe it when I see it!
Winter is almost over. We wont even see an average snowfall.
All the storms have been missing us this winter, so until we have one that actually affects us, we have to think that it is not happening.
100% agree!!
what storms missing us? There have not BEEN storms.. LOL Every once in a while, (it’s called averages) we have a somewhat snowless winter.. Just like the “summerless” summers..
)
Excellent point Bob.Contrast that to Europe’s winter and you get a planet earth that breaks even.
I think we will have minimum 1″ of snow on the ground Presidents day, St Patricks, April Fools and Easter this year along with the sirens going off in April for Kent County (minus the normal first Friday of the month) This is the current bet I have with the wife that is. I don’t want bad weather but we are so overdue and I completely agree the severe weather will be further north this spring.
Sumps already cruising along all winter. Can’t wait till spring. lol Thanks for the info Kevin.
No snow…no snow….no snow!
BRING ON spring!
ALMOST here! Sunshine! Chirping birds! Long days!
Keep the faith gang.
Your ol uncle sparks just got back from 10 day ice fishin frolic. Smoke and white lightin was the call of the wild! Ol aunty Edna was readin your big city lights blogs and told me I wasn’t missin much. I looked to the stars most nights and they told me we are in for a ahell of a storm near the 3rd week of feb. now I ain’t much of a star gazer, but they were all linin up real nice on the ice. Glad to be home ol aunty Edna has funny look in her eyes. Must be gettin close to harts day.
Harts day is comin and your ol aunty Edna is ready to get crazy with uncle sparks. Now she didn’t give me the nic name sparks for nuttin. We like to hike a mile or two in the back woods and listen to the call of the wild! hopin for the white stuff for the annual love hike.
Hope you can giv’er the ol’ white stuff SPARKY. !!!!!! LMAO.. one word….shhhhhhh…viagra.
BILL PLEASE DONT BAN ME….Just joking.
ROFLMAO!!!
Sparks needs some play only when a storm comes!! INDYY
Surprise, surprise… the models backed off again.
Then again, weather.com is saying 3-6″ for me right now. Must be going to get a bunch of Lake Huron lake effect from a northern wind?

That is what they’ve been doing all winter, backing off, increasing, backing off, until that day or a few hours before the event or no event. I don’t hold any trust in the models until 12hrs or less of the forecasted event.
Yep, and nevermind about me. They changed it to 1-3″ for me now like it should. That was weird.
Yeah, just wait until March. I think Winter has NOT had the last laugh yet.
Also, I think the current pattern sets up for some potent Thunderstorms as we transition into Spring. We will have to see how it plays out. I don’t think it stays as quiet as this Winter has been. You know, the law of averages. Things will balance out, it is just a matter or when!
