Winter Storm Warning Thru Midday
Winter Storm Warning for much of the area, essentially S. Haven to Pentwater to the east. It’s a Winter Weather Advisory for Kalamazoo, Van Buren, Calhoun, Jackson, Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Branch and Hillsdale Counties. Roads will be snow covered and slippery for the morning rush hour and through most of the day. The 00Z Caribou model snowfall forecast for Grand Rapids is now up to 11.5″ off the GFS and 12.4″ off the NAM. These are probably a little overdone, but get the shovel ready!!! We will have snow on the ground for winter sports this weekend. We’re also tracking the next system for the middle of next week that will likely bring us rain and then more accumulating snow for Weds./Thurs. You can check out the NAM model snowfall map here and the GFS model snowfall map here. Congratulations to Jane who won the Storm Team 8 raffle for a flat screen TV at the Kent Co. Severe Weather Spotters meeting Thurs. night. Here’s the complete list of county training sessions. If you are interested in severe weather.

Personally, I think it’s been a BAD call. Wimpy ‘storm’ if I’ve ever seen one.
I so would love a few inches of snow, but it doesn’t appear to be doing a whole lot out there
i am thinking a 8-10 inch total for most of Kent County….
Clint welcome back to the storm Blogg I have been in the 10 inch range for a few days now thats a great scott bet!!!! INDYYYYY

Shovel loaded Indy ..
I have the Snow Blower full gas and ready to ROCK!! LET IT SNOW…..
Nice heavy band across Northern Kent County!!!
Heavier band trying to push north from the south the last 90min into my area. Lets see if it can make some actual progress this time .
Looks like that band is starting to expand to the North Jeff!!
Yeah, snow has picked up. Nothing to heavy as of right now.
ok, now we have moderate snow.
Am I the only who thinks all of you people are going to be disappointed? It’s nothing but ‘wet’ outside here…maybe a 1/2″ and nothing too ominous on the radar either.
Hardly a ‘storm’ to me.
as i sit here waiting for 2″ on the pavement and seeing wet is all i wonder did this thing slow down that much? yesterday it seemed they were calling for it mid day thursday/friday morning….heck at this rate i might as well go to bed….not sure if we will have 2 inches on the lots by 6am, maybe on the grass here but i just dont see 2″ on the lots…muskegon is dropping temps though down to 33 there…….but just real light snow..i bet we only have a dusting so far 1/4 inch tops……mmmmmmmmmm bad timing on this one for sure
Tom The low just has to get a little closer then th snow will really pick up, Just ,Wait, Watch, And See…..
Sorry, I don’t buy it.
Just Look out in Northern Illinois and Iowa… That is still to come!!
MAX FGEN WILL SET UP OVER THE CENTRAL CWA AND A GENERAL 5-9 INCH
SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED. HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL LIKELY BEGIN AFTER
MIDNIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY MORNING. THIS SNOW WILL BE A
WET/HEAVY SNOW AND WILL HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE MORNING COMMUTE. THE
PCPN WILL END FROM WEST TO EAST FRIDAY LATE MORNING/AFTERNOON.
not snowing here… just started sticking to the roads but then stopped snowing….. grrr START SNOWING!!!!
K-zoo south is in the dry line right now. Just some scattered flakes out there. Depends on the track of the low but that stuff over eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois looks pretty intense. If all that holds together it’s going to make for a messy morning out there.
Funny thing ive been watching on radar. Seems you have a pocket of heavier snow then 30min later it loses its punch and weakens . A first for me for a storm that suppose to be intense .
Also, the dry slot looks like it may make it up to my area as this storm starts to pivit, until the back part of the storm moves through .
I can’t make heads or tails of what’s going on right now. Mainly because I don’t know that much about weather. But it looks like the storm is moving north northeast and looks like it will be done before it started?
Got up for a moment….it had stopped snowing earlier, but it has started again…about 1/2″ on deck…
This is a 2-3 (centimeter) event so far at my location in northwest Kent County. Perhaps more has fallen and melted, but I still see grass blades and the driveway is clear. Night is young though.
Uh, I told everyone to prepare for school tomorrow. This storm is a joke. Ground is too warm, no gulf moisture. Computers don’t take this into account or something? Half an inch to an inch tops on grassy surfaces in GR. Poor man’s storm. Need to quit relying on computers to predict weather. More instinct than anything.
just made a drive through spring lake to see whats going on, most lots either stil bare or a dusting starting to stick….my driveway in Nunica is 90% bare right now…looks like about an inch here in nunica on the railings. same in spring lake, just ground and air temps have been eating up the initial inch as it tries to stick top the pavement…..roads have slimy coat on parts….im sure it will be quite the slip and slide in another hr.
I’m with Stacsh. This storm is such a bust. I couldn’t be more thrilled. You are correct, I can still see the top of the grass at my house.
Looking at the radar, this thing is breaking up a lot..can’t imagine getting more than an inch or so.
Great call on your sweet spot INDY!!!White cloud – Kzoo….Snowing verry hard outside From the YARDofBRICKS …INDYYYY
Wondering how the weather people could all get it so wrong- again. Really embarrassing.
You’re comment is from 5:53 AM – most areas had more snow after 6 AM than before. Mattawan had less snow than most other areas. We had reports of over 8″ in Saugatuck, over 6″ in most of Ottawa and Kent Counties and up to a foot of snow in the northeast corner of our viewing area. Roads were very dangerous (we had four fatalities this morning) and because of the roads, most schools in the area were closed.
Best snow storm of the year and some thought winter was done with!!! HAHAHA!! INDYY
8 MORE HOURS OF HEAVY SNOW ==== 10-15 INCHES FOR GRAND RAPIDS!!! INDYYY
Mybe some will listen better next time when a few of us tell for weeeks now that a storm was coming on BILLS BLOGG!!!! INDYYY
Hitting the sprites early today eh?
Just measured 4.1″ on our deck, and 4.75″ on the grass. Our bushes and shrubs and bent over from the weight of the snow, I can’t imagine what’s gonna happen when we add on another 3-5″ of the heavy wet snow today with the wind gusting.
LOL!! When I got up at 7 AM, we had hardly any extra snow from the previous night (I could still make out the dogs’ footprints from last night) – there was maybe 2″ on my deck. And then the skies opened up and DUMPED!! I’ve got a good 4″ here at work (only a mile from my house) – so it must be your snow finally caught up with me this morning!!
It is just downright beautiful out there right now!!
2 inches in North GR and it quit snowing. It didn’t even need an advisory. Wish I could could get paid to read a computer and “predict” the weather. By the way, Bill never sounded enthusiastic about this event. I don’t blame him, I blame the awful NWS.
This will be the first time in history that the Grand Rapids Public Schools closed due to 2 inches of snow.
You need to remember that just because there’s 2″ in YOUR backyard – doesn’t mean that someone else isn’t getting clobbered. The NWS doesn’t issue “Street address” forecasts – it’s for a 23-county area.
EXACTLY!! Go measure now Stacsh and let us know what your total is. By the photos and video footage I’ve seen, even if GR didn’t get as much snow as other locations, the city streets looked horrible!
Just measured 7″. Still snowing. Trees look beautiful this morning. At times the wind picks up some
5.5″ if snow right now before the sky opens up again with LES, so I’d probably say we got 6″ since a bit of melting has occured. Let the good times roll with LES!
