Friday Morning

May 4th, 2012 at 3:18 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

Local 3:20 AM – I’ll leave the radar up here at the top of the thread through the morning.  At this hour there are showers and t-storms from mid-Lake Michigan through Allegan, far southern Kent Barry, S. Ionia Counties over to Lansing and Flint.  There is some training going on, so some places are getting a good soaking.  We had many reports of hail (up to 2″ in diameter SE of Jackson, wind damage (Muskegon, Montcalm, Van Buren Counties) and heavy rain (4″ in Lake Co.).  There is some for north of G.R. toward Big Rapids and Ludington as I write this.  The showers and t-storms will eventually fade and drift south.  Winds turn to the NE today and a little cooler air starts to push in.  Look for variable cloudiness with highs in the mid 70s.  Here’s links to the current conditions, regional radar, GRR radar, northern Indiana radar, and Chicago radar and Milwaukee radar. Here’s the local warning/advisory map and the National warning/watch/advisory map. You can checkout the latest Grand Rapids NWS discussion, the Northern Indiana NWS discussion (includes the Michigan Counties that border Indiana), the discussion for Northern Lower Michigan, and Eastern Lower Michigan. Here’s closings, the Spyglass Condos Weather Station the S. Haven GLERL station, the Muskegon GLERL station, the Grand Haven Steelheaders webcam and weather station, and the weather station at Holland St. Park. Check out the WOOD lightning tracker and U.S. lightning and links to webcams. Here’s the infrared satellite loop and the visible loop (daytime).

  2. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

nice cell heading our way, but wow look at Iowa into Il.

  3. Mark (in Okemos) says:

Off and on lightning and heavy rain all night long. Had some decent hail rapping against the windows about 2:30. Woke the kids and resulted in a full bed the rest of the night – even the dog.

  4. Tim (Spring Lake) says:

It looks like the area from Grand Haven through Port Sheldon is about to get dumped on pretty well. After that, it looks like most of it is forming and staying south.

  5. Yup (Grandville) says:

Huh, weird, my last post didn’t show up. Anyway, I absolutely shocked to see a cell building west of GR. It might actually get us! Oh, and I didn’t sleep so well last night. All that lightning!

  6. Bill (Woodland, Barry County) says:

    3.5 inches overnight here.

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

LOL!! That sure is what it sounded like, last night – non-stop HEAVY rain!! Just when I had been whining that we didn’t get any rain on Thursday – it stormed all night/kept me awake :-( But at least the cars on our lot are nice and clean again….LOL!!!

  7. Aaron says:

2″ of rain last night in Zeeland.

  8. Dan says:

We had hail come down at our house this am. It was probably about 1:30 am or later. WOW! It was probably about 1/8 inch, estimate My first thought was, “is there a tornado out there?” Impressive Lightning as well!
Looks to clear off later today! Feels and looks like Summer!

  9. Kevin(Marshall) says:

Only about 6/10 inch of rain just south of Marshall, most of which fell from a brief but heavy thunderstorm yesterday around 6:45 PM that contained winds to 50 mph and pea size hail.

Thats about what i got also, B Drive S. near Stuart Lake! Had a few limbs down from the wind! also, responded to an accident on I-69 where a tree fell into the left lane, NB and car smashed into it!

Enough of these thunderstorm fails. Let’s talk about winter. CFS is seeing a COLD one ahead.!/BigJoeBastardi/status/198240939544821760/photo/1/large

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I’m sure this coming winter we’ll be making up for this past winter BIG time!

      1. fixxxer says:

they can’t even predict what 2 days from now will be but you believe next winters forecast?

  11. Nathan (GR) says:

Wow, it was storming a lot over here too!

  12. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

WOW is it ever MUGGY out this morning, more so then yesterday!

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

I have little “Gray Tree Frogs” here at work – they make a HUGE loud chirp for something that’s about an inch in length – but they are happy little guys after all the rain and are chirping their hearts out :-) Last night, the toads were singing loudly, too! I seem to be surrounded by noisy amphibians….

  13. Kimoeagle says:

Although it’s gone by us in Angola, it appears that the T-storm cells off to the ENE and NE are growing, i.e., convective (is that the right term?)? Everything off to the west is headed either toward MSP or is 29.78″ and steady.

  14. fixxxer says:

hey bill can i get one week of sun and warm weather instead of clouds “all the time”?

    1. fixxxers elixxxer says:

SURE buddy ole pal….just leave your apartment.

    2. Bill Steffen says:

“Clouds all the time?” The first 3 days of May averaged 55.6% sun. April was 63% sunshine (average 52%). March was 52% (average 48%). We’ve above normal sunshine since the end of last year.

  15. fixxxer says:

still lots of cooler air our west, lets see if they drop those projected 60′s for next week into the 50′s.
