Showers Pretty Much Done

July 27th, 2012 at 1:25 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

Local    Showers continue to diminish in Lower Michigan.   Nice Waterspouts off Holland St. Park.  I’ll get pics. up after the news.   Golfball sized hail reported in Alma.  We got a number of waterspout pics. from west of Ottawa Co.    Small hail reported in the Nunica/Coopersville area and also just northwest of St. Johns in Clinton Co.  -  Rainfall has been quite variable, with one report of 3.16″ near Coopersville, 0.78″ at the Ford Airport in G.R., 0.13″ at Kalamazoo, 0.06″ in Holland, 0.04″ in Muskegon and just 0.01″ in Battle Creek as of 5 pm.  Leave a comment if you have a rainfall total.  The timing on this is right for most of us with showers on Friday and Monday and dry weather on Saturday and Sunday.    Until they reset it, check out storm total rainfall. Check out these links: to the current conditions, regional radar, GRR radar, northern Indiana radar, and Chicago radar and Milwaukee radar. Here’s the local warning/advisory map and the National warning/watch/advisory map. You can checkout the latest Grand Rapids NWS discussion, the Northern Indiana NWS discussion (includes the Michigan Counties that border Indiana), the discussion for Northern Lower Michigan, and Eastern Lower Michigan. Here’s closings, the Spyglass Condos Weather Station the S. Haven GLERL station, the Muskegon GLERL station, the Grand Haven Steelheaders webcam and weather station, and the weather station at Holland State Park. Check out the WOOD lightning tracker and U.S. lightning and links to webcams. Here’s the infrared satellite loop (night) and the visible satellite loop (daytime). Here’s Lake Michigan water temperatures. Waves are running 1-2 feet. When we have a brisk south- southwest wind, it favors a current along the pier (actually a breakwater) at Grand Haven St. Park (and on the south side of all piers and breakwaters), so avoid swimming near or jumping off the Grand Haven pier on days with a strong south or southwest wind. The Coast Guard Festival starts this weekend with the BIG parade and fireworks show on Saturday, August 4th.  We have the Taste of Grand Rapids and the Ionia Free Fair is wrapping up.  Here’s more events.

The 12Z (Friday AM run of the NAM Caribou) is in.   It holds temperatures in the mid 70s for most of the afternoon with an average of 0.14″ of rain.  We have a dry and pleasant weekend with 85 for a high temp. on Saturday and 88 on Sunday.  The raw NAM is 86 on Sat. and 89 on Sunday. Saturday is mostly sunny, Sunday is partly to mostly sunny.  Nice weekend.

The overnight NAM model gives Grand Rapids a high of 81 today (Fri), 86 on Saturday and 88 on Sunday.  The GFS has 83 today, 83 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday.  The NAM Caribou has 78 today, 85.3 on Sat. and 89.4 on Sunday.  The % chance of rain off the NAM is 65% today, the GFS has 72% and the NAM Caribou gives G.R. 0.17″ today and the GFS has 0.33″.  The European model gives G.R. a similar 0.34″ of rain today (Fri.), with highs of about 79 on Fri., 85 on Sat. and 86 on Sunday.

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

OMG GORGEOUS shelf cloud moved through and now I can NOT see the lake past the cliff of the yard because of heavy rain. Not much lighting or thunder but still some lighting. I’m in my glory and now 2 big cracks of thunder, maybe I should move away from the windows. LOL!!

Mother Nature might be in his favor for tonite I hope! Oh did I mention he’s a truck driver everybody wave at your local road construction workers that are recently recognized as machines and not human beings. Who needs sleep anyways?!?

    1. mike[kalamazoo county] says:

sshould have added 1.8″ for june and july

      1. SBPortage002 says:

Seems like my Portage rains have mainly bypassed you then. Funny how some spots gets a good dose and others stay pretty dry.

        1. mike[kalamazoo county] says:

I live near climax [gets people's attention when you say I live near climax lol] the rains have feel apart when they get over here I think areas of B. creek have had less rain than me lawns are still real brown in B.C. mine is just managing to green up in spots.

  15. DF (SE Mich) says:

Tornado Warning on this side of the state… crazy slow moving storms today.

    * UNTIL 630 PM EDT

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Possibly may be missing out on those because they are to far south and heading east but more are forming and heading my way.

    2. DF (SE Mich) says:

      Definite rotation on radar velocity:

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I certainly can see it getting dark over at the SW side of the lake so yeah, we can still hear deep rumbling of thunder from here, so maybe I’ll be able to capture at least lighting shots with it skimming the edge of Lk. Erie S end at Ohio boarder.

        1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Or are you talking about the Sandusky up north by the tip of the thumb or middle now? I see a tornado signature there.

        2. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

A LOT of Mesco out with this storm entering Ohio/Sandusky area looks to be some of that is shifting a bit my way now, definitly keeping my eye to the sky here.

  16. Sheri (Eaton Rapids) says:

High and dry here.. Storms went north and south and left us in a dry wedge. My lawn is glowing it is so dry.. At least I have saved some money on my lawn mowing services :) .

  17. MomLuvs says:

Anyone can fill me in on Sandusky weather? Is there rotation, what type of winds? etc. My Mom lives there ! plz share…weather wizzards!

  18. Nathan says:

Bill , I have no idea how much rain fell… But my grass is extremely green and moist! I must have gotten at least an inch of rain over here, it was raining (and pouring) for hours. Nice thunderstorms too!

  19. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo I think we have a water spout far SW side of the lake getting my camera baby!

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Damn, it was on the left side of a wall cloud(I remember what those look like) same color as the wall cloud and I’m running looking for my camera that was right in front of me, then for the extension and by time I could take the picture it was disipating or blending in but it’s gone it was clear! It had to have been.

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

That storm coming into Toledo is heading our way, another AWESOME shot coming up, rather then from the W-NW, I’m going to get the storms coming head on to me from the SW!

        1. Jack says:

  20. INDY says:

    1. Jack says:

  21. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

OMG I wish I could set up webcam and let you all watch this with me it is BEAUTIFUL! Not here yet but just all the different cloud colors, formations, ect, I’m in my peace and glory nothing around me exists at this moment but that storm and making sure I don’t miss another shot like I did.

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I’m going to miss the main event that is going on in Toledo, I had all the windows to the patio closed and can hear the thunder way over the lake in that area, the other storms unless they intensify won’t be severe but I bet people at Cedar Point are scattering about at this moment., MI&map.x=400&map.y=240&scale=1.000&centerx=400&centery=240&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0&lightning=0&lerror=20&num_stns_min=2&num_stns_max=9999&avg_off=9999&smooth=0 (sorry Cort)

    2. Jack says:

      More Pics….When Ya Getta Chance.. ?? :-)

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

The main event is going to stay away from me but the other stuff is coming, but WOW I can hear what Toledo and other souther counties are getting that are way inland, can’t see lighting only hearing the rumbles of thunder. Gosh Jack, thank you for being here with me I feel so alone. You can see the rain bands, it’s amazing, I wish you and Indy and Charles were out here with us sitting and watching and photographing. LOL! My 3 storm buddies :-)

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

This isn’t going to much to talk about, see the heavy rain crawling over the lake towards me, a couple bolts of lighting but just waiting now for the rain to arrive.

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Actually I spoke to soon, took some nice pictures of yet again another nice shelf cloud approaching, not as beautiful as the 1st but still pretty nice! ;-) This will probably be my last line of storms for the night that I can photograph, I will be back to share Round 2 pictures soon :-)

    2. Cort S. says:

I love sunset pictures! Just as much as storm pictures! Hey Swatz, I think you had the right idea about how to post those coded links a couple days ago, but all you needed to do was post your comment and the blog software would automatically convert it to a “link that looks like this.” You should definitely give it another go! Just type out the line like you see it in the example, then post the comment:

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I especially LOVE sunset pictures after a storm when there are still distant storm clouds moving away. I hope I have another chance before we leave here in another week.

  30. Jeff says:

Here’s another late afternoon photo from today in Zeeland of some big cloud formations:

    1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Those are incredible Jeff, absolutely LOVE your photo’s! That is the type of Camera I’d love to have and the experience in photography, I only shoot with a Pentax KS

  31. weather watcher says:

Bill..just wondering if you noticed any rotation near Big Rapids around 3 pm. We stepped out of Menards and noticed what we and others thought was a funnel cloud near the expressway. That funnel had clear rotation and was rope-like. Very surprising to see.

  32. Skot says:

Anybody else notice fixxxer was nowhere to be found today? No outlet for the laptop under mommies bed I reckon? When he’s wrong he seems to disappear.

    1. Jack says:

      Ssssssssssssshhhhh… :-)
