Dry and Pleasant Weekend

July 28th, 2012 at 3:07 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

Coast Guard Festival with lots to do this weekend – Kids Parade – Free Lunch.  There’s also Taste of Grand Rapids, Byron (Center) Days, Taste of Middleville, the Ottawa Co. Fair, the Western Michigan Fair at Ludington, the Muskegon Co. Youth Fair  and the last day of the Ionia Free Fair.  The weekend looks great…partly to mostly sunny and dry with highs in the mid 80s.  We are at 80.0 for an average July temperature.  The warmest July ever was 79.8 deg. in 1921.  We’ll probably fall below that by month’s end.  We have had 27 days with highs of 90-degrees or higher.  The record is 37 days in 1988.  At this point in 1988 we had just 22 90-degree days.  However from July 28 to August 17, 1988 – we had a string of 15 of 19 days that were 90 or better.  We were 98 on August 17th, then we had a night of t-storms.  The next day the high was just 73, and it never got warmer than 80 the whole rest of the summer.  I don’t think that will happen this year.  The pattern is stable, and I would suspect that temperatures will likely remain warmer than average into early fall.  With northwest flow, we’ll continue to see dry periods, but we should be closer to the “ring of fire” and disturbances coming down from the northwest should give us an occasional shower or t-shower.  The NAM Caribou gives G.R. highs of 84-87-93 for the next 3 days.  The European model would give us approx. 84-87- 91…both models are dry for the Weekend and Monday with the European bringing us a shower or t-shower Tue. Excellent weather on the way for this weekend! I’m sure we will get a few more 90 degree days before we cool down into the Fall. We sure did get some MUCH NEEDED rain. My lawn is GREEN again!
    Have a great day, bloggers!

It isn’t even August yet, Dan. Summer lasts well into September. I think you’ve been fooled by the early spring/summer, just like Mother Nature. Cicadas were singing in June. Robins were back in February. Golden Rod was blooming died in July! Crazy times! I wonder if spring will come in December this year.

A beautifully cool 61* here this morning. Feels GREAT!

Kind of sad that I get that excited about a morning with still slightly above normal temps.

    Good Day,

Could we finally have a pattern shift? I hope so. Looks like it is going to be a wonderful, and not too HOT, weekend!

  4. big Daddy BC says:

So you’re calling for a cooling July now, hoping to make it below the all-time record? I hope you’re right. This summer’s tearing up the record books everywhere. Worldwide we’re .6 degrees warmer than average.
The last twelve have been the hottest consecutive twelve months since record breaking began. We’re in the second of a devastating two year drought. Last year’s cost more than $5 billion. This year’s has effected 80% of the nation’s corn crop. We have lots of expensive groceries to look forward!! “The drought gripping more than half the country is a major reason why consumers can expect to pay 3 percent to 4 percent more for groceries next year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Wednesday.” http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20120728/BIZ/207280321/Drought-will-cause-rise-food-prices-says-USDA?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CHome%7Cs
What we need is a good republican like Romney to take over and clean this mess up. LOL

    1. michael g (SE GR) says:

Obama’s energy policies are costing us a lot more than 3 percent to 4 percent extra.

      1. Barb says:

And you base that on what source???

      2. Steelie says:

        Good Day,

Indeed. First there are his own words:

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.” (Bill adds link to the quote…starts about 26 seconds into the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlTxGHn4sH4)

Due to EPA policies, coal fired energy dropped in one year from 44.6% of capacity to just 36%. Couple that with the recent PJM Interconnection auction for 2015 and the cost of a megawatt of power will increase from just $16 in 2012 to $136 in 2015 (an increase of about 8x). It is even worse for Northern Ohio which will its rates per megawatt skyrocket to $357. Add to this the expected record number of coal plant retirements coming up, it paints a pretty scary energy picture.

        Steelie

        1. Steelie says:

          Good Day,

Oops, typo… Ohio could see its rates increase to $357.

          Steelie

        2. big Daddy BC says:

          Wind farms!!!

        3. Michael S says:

          Steelie,
The reason for the drop in coal was cheap natural gas, through record production. Look at how natural gas generating capacity has changed and you’ll see gas is replacing coal.

This is good for all of us, because gas is cleaner than coal. Your lungs and the mercury-ladden fish in the Great Lakes should be happy.

        4. Bill Steffen says:

The EPA is not only not issuing permits for new energy, but they are trying desperately to shut down fossil fuel operations: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/74414.html This will, of course, throw thousands out of work and force us to run to countries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to beg for energy.

Wind farms are useless when the temperature is over 110 and the wind is calm to nearly calm (current conditions from Oklahoma):

        5. big Daddy BC says:

This drought has cost us billion. Imagine if we’d started integrating green technologies like solar and wind when Carter suggested it. We might be free of the oil barons by now, and consequently free of the ravages of climate changing we’re forced to deal with. You poke fun at the democrats for funding pollution-free alternatives, but the last oil man we had in the White House nearly bankrupt the country. I’ll take screw-ups like Solyndra over billions lost in subsidies and droughts.

        6. Bill Steffen says:

The bankrupt solar companies cost us a billion: https://twitter.com/BigJoeBastardi/status/232999754899005440/photo/1/large Solar’s not working.

The Texas drought has nothing to do with CO2: Here’s NOAA climatologist Dr. Robert Hoerling: “The good news, Hoerling says, is that this isn’t global warming. “This is not the new normal in terms of drought. Texas knows drought. Texas has been toughened on the anvil of droughts that have come and gone. This is not a climate change drought.” source: http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2011/09/chatting_with_a_noaa_meteorolo.php

And this from the State Climatologist of Texas, Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon: “There is no evidence that climate change contributed to the lack of rainfall, because rainfall has risen over the past century in the state.” source: http://texasclimatenews.org/wp/?p=5113

    3. jesse says:

Bill never called for a cool july. ” The pattern is stable, and I would suspect that temperatures will likely remain warmer than average into early fall.” Sorry, I know you like to start controversy whenever you can on the blog but I have to stop you before you start it. And really, you are starting to rip on someone’s political affiliation and make it the reason why temperatures act the way they do? Grow up.

      1. big Daddy BC says:

I wrote ‘cooling’ July. Not ‘cool’ July. Read much? I’m not interested in what you suspect about the weather trend or how you feel about the controversy on this blog. It’s a blog, numb nuts. As far as the link between politics and climate, that’s simple. Policies that increase greenhouse gases warm the climate. Those policies are often, not always, voted for by republicans. Why? Good question, considering that republicans are supposed to be the conservative, self-proclaimed moralists. The party of George Bush/Mitt Romney is neither moral nor conservative. These are people that work for the wealthy minority. This minority makes money when environmental laws go away or people get confused about the science. I hope that helps, Jesse. And thanks for the compliment, I hate grownups.

        1. Kris McHale says:

The wealthy minority is where all the money for benefits come from, and also where all the jobs come from. No one ever got a job from a broke guy. Go ahead and hate the rich, they need some extra motivation to stop being so complacent.

If we successfully take money from the rich and give it to the poor and middle class, when the poor stupid people spend it all and are broke again where will we get more money from, when we have made certain no one is rich anymore?

This is a blog, but comments like numb nuts really make any valid points you have null because you turn people off to them. Try to compel with logic and tact and you will be surprised how far you get. It got that schmuck in the White House, after all.

        3. Dan says:

Have you checked the facts out on this, Big Daddy? By your blatant disregard for really looking carefully at this, I can see why you are attempting to discredit, Jesse. Have you even bothered to take a look at who Obama works for? Of course, you have not! I suppose when you are attempting to back Obama, it must be difficult seeing all of his policies have failed.’Therefore, its more of the same, blame Bush and attack Romney. You don’t get it. The Obama admin is working overtime to make Romney look bad. Its called Chicago politics. You need to face facts, Obama has NO RECORD to run on. I suppose the country would be much better if it were guided by your HIGH moral principles and your ideology of “class warfare” Lets crush the business ovners and the free enterprise system right? Big Daddy, Business ovners in this great system of free enterprise create jobs!!! Has Obama?

        6. big Daddy BC says:

Numb Nuts was accurate and I stand by it, but thanks, Kris. As far as letting the rich keep their money, stash it in Switzerland or the Caiman Islands (like Romney) for the benefit of job creation…lol, that fails the logic test. “According to Entrepreneur Magazine there are between 25 million and 27 million small businesses in the U.S. that account for 60 to 80 percent of all U.S. jobs. And, a recent study by Paychex, says that small businesses produce 13 times more patents that larger firms.” That’s from Forbes and it basically means that rich guys are NOT responsible for most of the jobs. The middle class is. In recent years, your party has gone from fiscal conservatism and small government to tax-and-spend Peeping Toms. The problem is that the spend part has been FAR bigger than the tax part. Bush’s tax cuts crippled our economy and created ZERO jobs. http://zrants.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/new-tax-cuts-graph.png In fact it’s one of the factors that created this recession Obama’s been digging us out of (with absolutely no help from the repubs in congress). The idea of electing Romney, a spoiled rich kid that abuses dogs, his classmates, and handicapped teachers to fix a broken economy his billionaire friends created is only slightly less foolish than electing GW Bush for a second term.
You ideologues have crippled the job-creating middle class and don’t have the sense to admit it. Yeah, let’s throw more money at the Koch brothers and hope they hire another shift. Get real!

        7. bobcat says:

Actually, you just proved again that you are the real ‘numbnuts’ here. You have no idea how much work the HUGE companies give to us small business owners. It’s nice, and it works. The money is shared. Isn’t that what you want?

        12. big Daddy BC says:

Question is, why won’t you have an honest debate? Why inundate the thread with useless links about GE and Solyndra, a seeming attempt to bury our actual conversation? Those paragraphs are cut and pasted over and over in multiple threads. Whoever is posting as Bill needs to read before they post. It makes Bill look stupid when he responds to comments with answers that have absolutely nothing to do with the conversation.
…Unless you want him to look like he has dementia. ;)

Bobcat, I actually provided that number. It was between 20 and 40%. I realize you don’t have any so i won’t call you numbnuts, but come on. Where does this odd mentality come from? Do you people start worshiping the rich while in the cradle? I realize that one of the American dreams is that someday, if we work hard, we can all create multimillion dollar companies, own politicians, and rape the environment, but in truth no one on this blog is going to realize that dream. And besides, in the last decade, the wealthiest 1% went from controlling $80 billion to controlling $400 billion. The Bush tax cuts and loopholes failed. They made the rich richer and did nothing for the middle class. If we cut them now, we’ll save $800 billion as a nation by the end of the decade. If thinking is what you prescribe, then THINK about the fact that as the rich have gotten richer, the middle class has sunk into a sinking pit. Trickle down economics does not work. Government’s mandate is to even the playing field, unless you’d like to return to a medieval cast system, Princess Bobcat?

          http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/ending-bush-tax-cuts-for-rich-would-save-just-28-billion-in-2013-analysts-say/2012/07/19/gJQAW0m0vW_story.html

        13. Dan says:

Oops, another misquote by the Big Daddy. Do you think there are 57 states as Obama does? Do you also think that Hawaii is in Asia?

Here is a fact that you have missed, Big Daddy.

Even when taking into account all federal taxes, the poor and middle class have benefited more than their wealthy counterparts. In 1979, the total effective federal tax rate (including payroll taxes, excise, capital gains, estate, and corporate taxes) was 8% for the poorest Americans and 18.6% for middle income earners. Thanks to the Reagan and Bush tax cuts, those rates fell 50% and 23%, respectively. The top one percent of earners had their total effective tax rate fall 21% over the same time period. n sum, the tax cuts enacted by Reagan and Bush have benefited the poor and middle class more than the wealthy. Their taxes have been cut more drastically than wealthy Americans, and many have been taken off the tax rolls altogether. In 2009, a majority of Americans paid no federal income tax. The poor and middle class also pay a far lower percentage of the total revenue pie now. Despite across the board tax cuts, revenues have remained essentially constant. Unfortunately, our spending has ballooned, and is only projected to increase with time.
Do you read the CBO? hmm, I wonder why the spending has ballooned? Do you think spending the tax payers money frivolously has helped? Check the GDP and then see for yourself. The numbers do not lie. Please do not tell me that the GDP had nothing to do with the economy.

        14. Michael S says:

Bill, the blizzard of misinformation from you is impressive. Let me address a single point; Anarctic sea ice.

Have you looked into why it’s increasing- it’s not because of cooling. Scientists suggest that the change in weather patterns from the ozone hole cause more snowfall. What do you think?

          http://www.skepticalscience.com/increasing-Antarctic-Southern-sea-ice-intermediate.htm

Bill Steffen responds to Michael: This came out 7/23/12 from the University of Copenhagen: http://news.ku.dk/all_news/2012/2012.7/rise_in_temperatures_and_co2/ They say:

“The greatest climate change the world has seen in the last 100,000 years was the transition from the ice age to the warm interglacial period. New research from the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen indicates that, contrary to previous opinion, the rise in temperature and the rise in the atmospheric CO2 follow each other closely in terms of time. The results have been published in the scientific journal, Climate of the Past. The Australian ice core drilling camp at Law Dome in Antarctica.

In the warmer climate the atmospheric content of CO2 is NATURALLY higher. The gas CO2 (carbon dioxide) is a green-house gas that absorbs heat radiation from the Earth and thus keeps the Earth warm. In the shift between ice ages and interglacial periods the atmospheric content of CO2 helps to intensify the natural climate variations. It had previously been thought that as the temperature began to rise at the end of the ice age approximately 19,000 years ago, an increase in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere followed with a delay of up to 1,000 years. “Our analyses of ice cores from the ice sheet in Antarctica shows that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere follows the rise in Antarctic temperatures very closely and is staggered by a few hundred years at most,” explains Sune Olander Rasmussen, Associate Professor and centre coordinator at the Centre for Ice and Climate at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen.

          Temperature rise first…CO2 increase follows.

Second, the article you linked to admits that Antarctic ice volume has increased.

I don’t pay any attention to your numbers because I know that you libs have no problem distorting them. Most Americans, even small business owners, don’t look at life hoping to be the next big corporation. Most of us just want a comfortable life… providing for our families with some extra cash for the perks.
          RE: your statements…
“Where does this odd mentality come from?”
What ‘odd mentality’ are you speaking of? Hard work? You really need to try it. Work is not bad at all if you find something you like to do. ACTUALLY, for anyone with a conscious, it’s what we NEED to do. Since the handouts/welfare, many have the same dream as you… “I’ll sit on my ass and the government will take care of me.”
“I realize that one of the American dreams is that someday, if we work hard, we can all create multimillion dollar companies, own politicians, and rape the environment”
That is not the American dream. You just LOVE drama.
“Trickle down economics does not work.”
Yes it does. And did! And it will again. How are the communist countries doing?
“Princess Bobcat”? Wow! You didn’t call me numbnuts, but you couldn’t help yourself from name calling at the end. Lol. At least is was sweet. Thanks!
I ‘see’ you sitting at McDonald’s with the $1 Dr Pepper just to use the internet. You really need to get a job (any job) so you can really get a taste of life. It’s not bad at all. Rewarding actually.

        16. Bill Steffen says:

BigDaddy’s link above is to a Washington Post article that claims that ending the Bush tax cuts for those who make $250 a year would “save” the Federal government 80 billion dollars.

First, the actually number would be a little less than that. People with marginal incomes would get their income below 250K to avoid the hefty surcharge. Why work to make 260 or 270K when the government is going to confiscate it all. Second, raising taxes in the middle of a recession or at best very weak economy right now would weaken the economy further. That’s even Keynesian. Listen to this short clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEdXrfIMdiU

Second, the National debt just for this year is 1.7 TRILLION dollars. 80 billion is a small fraction (1/21st) of that debt. You can’t get anywhere near a balanced budget without entitlement reform and getting more people off the public dole and into jobs where they are paying taxes. You have no plan now to get people back to work.

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=661pi6K-8WQ

        17. big Daddy BC says:

No one claimed that reducing the Bush tax breaks for the top 1% would balance the budget, but as a self-proclaimed conservative, shouldn’t you agree that 1/21st is a significant start. Obama and the team do not want to end the tax cuts for anyone making less than $200K, so the middle class would continue to enjoy those breaks.
Another deficit-cutting measure would be to end subsidies for companies like Exxon who enjoyed $41 billion in profits last year. The GOP refuses to end the $10+ billion in tax-payer cash we hand over to these pigs each year. $10 billion per year adds up quick.

          http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/25/the-bush-tax-cuts-and-the-deficit/

Princess, Bobcat. Please show me when trickle-down worked because I missed it. We all did. If it worked, we wouldn’t be digging out from a GOP created recession right now. The GOP had total control of our country for six years and look what it did to us! As far as hard work goes, it’s not work that’s rewarded in this economy, it’s wealth. Snyder’s tax increases were 1000x higher for low income earners in the state than those making $200K. compare the amount of work a heavy machine operator does to a bank president over the course of a day.

Dan, duh. I hope those with money pay more in taxes than those without. The poor do not exist to support the wealthy. The poor are POOR, Dumb Dumb. What misquote are referring to? Put the hookah down and try again. ;)

The nationwide unemployment rate dropped to 5.7% in May, as–huh? Oh wait, sorry, that’s wrong. Actually, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “nonfarm payroll employment changed little in May (+69,000), and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 8.2 percent.” By “essentially unchanged” they mean increased from 8.1% in April.
Here is some more information from the Investor’s Business Daily.
And on several measures, the current recovery — which started five months after Obama took office and is now in its 35th month — is the worst on record since World War II.

          Here are the results.

Employment: By this point, the average job growth in the past 10 recoveries was 6.9%. Under Obama, jobs have grown by just 1.9%, according to data from the Minneapolis Federal Reserve.

Had the current recovery kept pace with just the average recovery over the past 60 years, there would be 6.5 million more people with jobs today, and the unemployment rate would be below 7%, instead of above 8%. That assumes several million more Americans would have joined the workforce. If the current anemic labor force were unchanged, those 6.5 million jobs would drive unemployment to 4%.

GDP growth: The Obama recovery has also performed far worse than average when it comes to GDP growth. After 11 quarters, the economy is still only 6.8% bigger than it was when the recession ended. In contrast, GDP was 16% bigger, on average, by this point in the previous 10 recoveries, the Minneapolis Fed data show.

Is the economy really getting better? Here are some things for you to think about.
If the economy is getting better, then why did new home sales in the United States hit a brand new all-time record low during 2011?

If the economy is getting better, then why are there 6 million less jobs in America today than there were before the recession started?

If the economy is getting better, then why is the average duration of unemployment in this country close to an all-time record high?

If the economy is getting better, then why has the number of homeless female veterans more than doubled?

If the economy is getting better, then why has the number of Americans on food stamps increased by 3 million since this time last year and by more than 14 million since Barack Obama entered the White House?

If the economy is getting better, then why has the number of children living in poverty in America risen for four years in a row?

If the economy is getting better, then why is the percentage of Americans living in “extreme poverty” at an all-time high?

If the economy is getting better, then why is the Federal Housing Administration on the verge of a financial collapse?

If the economy is getting better, then why do only 23 percent of American companies plan to hire more employees in 2012?

If the economy is getting better, then why has the number of self-employed Americans fallen by more than 2 million since 2006?

If the economy is getting better, then why did an all-time record low percentage of U.S. teens have a job last summer?

If the economy is getting better, then why does median household income keep declining? Overall, median household income in the United States has declined by a total of 6.8% since December 2007 once you account for inflation.

If the economy is getting better, then why has the number of Americans living below the poverty line increased by 10 million since 2006?

If the economy is getting better, then why is the average age of a vehicle in America now sitting at an all-time high?

If the economy is getting better, then why are 18 percent of all homes in the state of Florida currently sitting vacant?

If the economy is getting better, then why are 19 percent of all American men between the ages of 25 and 34 living with their parents?

If the economy is getting better, then why does the number of “long-term unemployed workers” stay so high? When Barack Obama first took office, the number of “long-term unemployed workers” in the United States was approximately 2.6 million. Today, that number is sitting at 5.6 million.

What would like to tackle next, Obama’s foreign policy? Oh yeah, he really doesn’t have one. Unless you consider living under shereet law. Do you even know what that would mean for America? Can you please explain this?
Israel needs to attain the capability to defend itself against Iran’s development of nuclear weapons, and a deal to buy an airbase in Azerbaijan would allow Israel to have a staging ground within close proximity. What on earth would prompt the U.S. to leak such highly sensitive information? “I think this leak today is part of the administration’s campaign against an Israeli attack” former US ambassador John Bolton told Fox News.

That theory seems credible given Obama’s history of behavior towards Israel. Obama has stated his support for a Palestinian State, and suggested that Israel go back to “pre-1967 borders.” Obama was also overheard discussing Netanyahu with French President Nicolai Sarkozy who said “I cannot stand him. He’s a liar” to which Obama responded “you’re fed up with him but I have to deal with him every day.”

Is this how you defeat terror?

          The Obama-Khalidi connection
          November 26, 2011

Add another one to the ever-growing list of radical connections and friendships for President Obama.

“Khalidi, a Yasser Arafat toady, got $75,000 through Obama and Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers from the Woods Foundation, and later Khalidi returned the favor by hosting a fundraiser for Obama. Obama “lavished praise” on Khalidi in 2003 when the former PLO functionary took a job at Columbia University, according to an LA Times article last year. It’s hardly ancient history, and Khalidi is hardly an acquaintance.”

How about the great way the Obama uses his speeches?
I guess he might have made some friends with the business owners with this speech.
President Obama, in a speech to supporters, suggested business owners owe their success to government investment in infrastructure and other projects — saying “if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.”
Obama’s comment Friday during a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., came just days after he urged Congress to extend tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration only to families earning less than $250,000 annually — part of his argument that top earners have an obligation to pay more to trim the deficit.

“There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me because they want to give something back,” the president said. “If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

        19. big Daddy BC says:

Thanks for the cut and paste from Investors Daily. How about just linking the article, Einstein. I laughed all the way through it as I imagined the Koch funded think tank that created it. Dan, you realize you have to admit that he’s actually lead an economic recovery in order to criticize it? LOL So if he’s been building the economy, growing jobs, kicking terrorists’ asses, and basically undoing all of the havoc your party did, what’s the problem? He hasn’t dug out from under the GOP landslide fast enough for you?

And as far as your Hannity cut-and-paste, come on? Are you and the ultra-right claiming that our president is a terrorist? You know he killed Bin Laden and most of his inner circle. Wouldn’t that make him a tad unpopular with the rest of the ‘evil dooers.’ Interesting Bush didn’t. Maybe he’s the terrorist. LOL I just realized, Dan, that you’re a wacked out nut. Keep drinking the Kool-Aide, Moonie.

Bill Steffen adds: BigDaddy cuts and pastes all the time…Skeptical Science has a web page that’s perfect for those with rabid leftist ideology, but no climate credentials. 20. Dan says:

More of the same from you Big Daddy! You call me names because you know I’m right! You didn’t even bother to refute one of those points. How about the economy for starters? Face it, Big Daddy. Obama has no record to run on. He has not accomplished one thing! He attacks the business owners and demonizes anybody who will not depend on BIG GOVERNMENT! The only reply you have is to call me names. No, the answer to grow the economy is not to spend us into another deficit! Your constant name calling and put downs demonstrate that you know nothing about the economy. You have been duped by the “anointed one.”
Do you really even work a job, pay taxes and do anything constructive with your life? It is evident by your posts that you seek only to disrupt, discredit and show how others how very unhappy you are. Your sad state affairs are not Bill’s fault, Big Daddy.
You are so typical and easy to figure out. Your blatant attempts to hide behind the mask haven’t worked out for you!

        21. big Daddy BC says:

Sticks and stones, Dan. You have an uncanny knack for saying absolutely nothing in a thousand words or less. That’s a compliment.
Keep on, brother. Eventually your team will win this holy civil war and expose the wickedness and evil of the democrats and socialists. I’m converted, Dan. You did it. I see the light. I was just using the wrong moral compass. You see, I was brought up to think that taking care of the weak, sharing with the down trodden, and standing up to bullies was right. As it turns out, Jesus has wanted me to hoard my gold and abuse whomever stood in my way all along. I was fighting the wrong fight! ;(
Gee Wiz. My Bad. I’m beginning to see the benefits to joining the moral right! I’m a conformed teabagger!
          See ya in church.

        22. Dan says:

Oh yeah, MOCK and MOCK some more, Big Daddy! That said, there must be some truth in what you are saying. All you know how to do is call names and mock that what you do not understand. The sad part about it, you don’t want to understand. Furthermore, when challenged you reply with name calling and put downs. You masquerade as some big philanthropic dude with altruistic motives. Bill continues to make you look so incredibly foolish. He challenges you and you either call him names, blame him for your sad state of existence or blame others. Why not step up? Why not organize some type of a rally for the environment? Oh, that would mean you have to work. I get it now, Big Daddy. Those comments that bobcat made must’ve hit pretty close to home.

As far as your church comment, you are more than welcome to attend our church or any one of your liking! Now, concerning what Jesus wants you to do with your gold, that is between Jesus and yourself! I just wish for one moment you would consider another viewpoint. You think you know so much. However, your frequent attempts to deny the truth and believe the platitudes of the “anointed one” prove that you know very little!!!
You continue to hide behind a computer and write on a blog to gain what? Is the truth of who you are, really that difficult to live with everyday?
Still waiting for you to refute any of my above points. You can’t so you call me names and mock me. How original!

        23. big Daddy BC says:

In all seriousness, Dan, you’re a passive-aggressive wimp. You cut-and-paste crap from extremest sites and ask that someone interpret them for you. Seriously. You expect me to refute Obama’s connection with a terrorist regime. What about the birth certificate thing? Have the nuts on the right given up on that?
And you want me to list off all of his foreign policy successes? Dude, please. He ended the war in Iraq. He killed Bin Laden and many of Al Queda’s leaders. He helped end Kadafi’s reign. He’s a tested military leader.

As far as not digging us out from the Bush recession fast enough, his stimulus package prevented a recession from becoming a depression. He ramped up laws that stopped the sale of derivatives, locking Wall Street back in place and saved the auto industry.

His Universal Healthcare Plan means that 31 million previously uninsured Americans will now be able to go to the doctor. It also means that no one with a pre-existing condition will be denied treatment!

As far as unemployment goes, you do recall that the month he took office, almost a million people lost their jobs. It took months after that for his policies to even take effect. Last time I looked, and it’s been a while, Around 4.5 million jobs have been added since Obama ended the recession. The right would argue that it’s not enough, but consider that 4 million jobs had been lost in the six months before he even took office. Bush and the right would have put us into the next Great Depression if Obama hadn’t swooped in and saved us. But, you know this scenario has played out before. Clinton rescued us from the first Bush and then created the most prosperous economy America’s ever experienced.

Now, Slick, compare only what I could come up with from memory to what Bush accomplished in eight years…an unnecessary war, the worst terrorist attack in history, the collapse of our economy, the collapse of the housing market, dishonor on the world stage, and environmental armageddon. And now you monkeys want us to hire another corporate stooge? Wake up and smell the future, Dan. The teabag religious nuts are not in it.

        24. Dan says:

Big Daddy, did you just call Obama a military tested leader? OMG! I had to re read that one. You are so far in his “hope and change trance” that you don’t even really know, do you? What military experience does he even have? I’m talking about the Senator from Chicago. Here is bit of history on Obama. Do I need to spell it out? Evidently, I do.
The pattern of misdirection upon which President Obama’s political career has been built has its roots in the socialist background of community organizing. ACORN, Reverend Wright, and Bill Ayers were all routes into that hidden socialist world, and that is why Obama has had to obscure the truth about these and other elements of his past. More important, the president’s socialist past is still very much alive in the governing philosophy and long-term political strategy of the Obama administration.

As we move into the first national election of the Obama presidency, Americans are confronted with a fateful choice. Either we will continue to be subject to President Obama’s radical and only very partially revealed plans for our future, or we will place a strong check on the president’s ambitions. Knowing the truth about Obama’s past is the best way to safeguard our future. I don’t need others to interpret for me, do you? You have to wonder why all of this has been “covered up” by the controlled media. Military Leader, Huh? WOW!
There you go again with calling me some more names.
You are the one who needs to wake up. He has made it almost impossible for the business owner. He says that business owners didn’t create their business on their own. Do you know who creates jobs? (CRICKETS) I’ll give you a hint, it is not the government! Do you even know how this country was started and what made it grow? It is quite obvious that you don’t even have clue. Give a dude a computer, a blog and some talking points. Yet, you call me a teabag, religious nut? Do I have that right? I want to be sure I understand the context of your label here. You also called me a passive aggressive wimp. Is that right? You KEEP resort to name calling. Is this because you really cannot handle it when you are proven wrong time after time? You don’t have to answer that as your posts already reflect your typical responses!
If you had read my post, I had asked you to REFUTE ANY of the points that I posted. I find it interesting that you go after the foreign policy issues. I see you are grasping at straws here. You don’t even need to mention the economy as Obama has spent and spent and spent some more to nurse the economy back to health. There is no STRONG evidence to support that we are even out of the recession! You must not really even understand what the economy means as it relates to GDP! I see you dodged this one.

Ok, you want to discuss Obamacare. He really doesn’t care. Make no mistake about it. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of a tax! It’ll be huge tax at that!! Heck, even Obama vacillated on this one. He called it a tax, then he didn’t call it a tax. This from Obama’s own Doctor.
“He has no cost control. There would be no effective cost control,” said Scheiner. “The [Congressional Budget Office] said it’s going to be incredibly expensive… and the thing that I’m incredibly worried about is, if it is a failure that I think it will be, then health reform will be set back a long, long time.”

Scheiner said that the Obama administration neglected the advice of real physicians and instead decided to let political operatives craft Obama’s signature health care law. People like Obama’s former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel’s brother, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, were the kinds of medical people that the White House consulted.

“Ezekiel is a medical oncologist, not a general physician,” said Scheiner.

The point that Scheiner was trying to make is that President Obama lacks the ability to understand the critical role of the doctor to patient interaction just as he fails to connect to people personally.

FURTHER EVIDENCE to support that Obama doesn’t know what he is doing. He ha no record to run on. ALL of his policies have failed!

He is leading the country to financial cliff! You say, he has lead us out of a recession. I would beg you to take a very close look at the numbers. I mean GDP, UNEMPLOYMENT, HOUSING, GAS PRICES, ETC, ETC! All of it!! You accuse others of cherry picking the data when weather graphs are posted, right?
Not sure where you are getting your information on the economy here, Big Daddy. You are using spin, just as Obama does.
Here are some sobering facts. WAKE UP!
“What’s become of America since President Obama took full control of Washington?” the narrator says. “A wrecked economy, with debt and waste beyond imagination. Since then, gas prices have gone up more than 82 percent. Every single day, more than 1,500 of our jobs have been lost. Every day, another 2,700 of us realize it’s been six months since we last had a job. Every day, more than 6,000 of us have begun living below poverty, while 13,000 more have been put on food stamps, and more than 800 have become uninsured. … This is the legacy President Obama and his Democrats have left for us. If we give them more time, what else will they do to America?”

There’s a lot to digest here, but we’re going to look at two claims from the ad. The one we’re looking at in this item is, “Since President Obama took full control of Washington … every single day, more than 1,500 of our jobs have been lost.”

As we do with claims like this, we split our analysis into two parts. Are the numbers right? And is it fair to assess either credit or blame for those numbers to the target of the ad?

          First, the numbers.

We turned to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the federal government’s official source for employment figures. We first looked at total, nonfarm employment between January 2009, when Obama was sworn in, until December 2011, the most recent month available at the time the ad was released. We also used the figure that would have been available at the time the ad was released. Often BLS adjusts numbers upwards or downwards in the succeeding month, based on additional information.

Using the preliminary numbers, a net 1,661,000 jobs were lost nationwide. Assuming that three years means 1,095 days — or 365 times 3 — then 1,517 net jobs were lost per day during that period. So, using that measurement, the ad is correct. (Using the revised numbers released after the ad came out, the daily number dropped significantly — to 1,274 — due to stronger-than-expected job growth.)

But that’s if you start the count in January 2009. Since Obama was sworn in on Jan. 20, 2009, February was actually his first full month in office — and using the February numbers makes a big difference.

Starting with February 2009, the net number of jobs lost was 937,000, which produces a daily job loss of 856, or 43 percent lower than the amount claimed in the ad. (If you look only at private-sector jobs, the daily job loss was even smaller — 303 jobs, a number that shrunk to just 74 once revised figures appeared.)

You think Obama is the great savior. That is further evidence to support that you are in the “hope and change trance.” Time to snap out of it and see what is really going on. I guess bobcat really did get to you!

        25. big Daddy BC says:

Am I discussing this with you or Stanley Kurtz None of your response is YOURS. It’s all cut-and-pasted from a variety of extremest websites like the National Review. People like Kurtz are hired to smear the president, Dan. Not that this didn’t happen with Bush too. It’s just an unfortunate part of the political culture. Your job as an intelligent, educated man is to read all opinion pieces like the Kurtz piece with a bit of skepticism. …Maybe do a little homework on the author or his methodologies. Kurtz calls the president a socialist. Okay. What definition is he using for socialist. In reading a few of Kurtz’ articles it seems he includes everyone from neoliberals to social democrats from Scandinavia. Simply put, Kurtz is a soldier for corporate America.
Another cut-and-paste you use is from Politifact, another conservative rag. This one put out by the Tampa Times. It talks about jobs loss and goes back to the February after Obama took office. Do you think any of the President’s policies were in place by then? LOL Come on, Slick. Fully 4,000,000 jobs were lost in the six months before Obama took office, and million more before he could even impact it. Remember, that’s why he won the election.
Okay, so before you respond with another right-wing cut-and-paste, try using your own words. Try explaining why Obama is not a proven military leader. Explain which policies he’s enacted that make you classify him as a socialist and not a democrat. Explain why Bush’s economic plan was better. I’d also love to see you take a shot at why a free-market and socialism are mutually exclusive.
          Take your time.

        26. Dan says:

I’ll take the Free Market versus Socialism argument for right now, Big Daddy. It is all that I have the time to post about at this moment. Perhaps, I can come back later. Not sure why I’m choosing to illustrate this to you. Here it is.
In Socialism, the government levels the playing field for all.
There is no incentive to work hard as the rewards will be distributed evenly. Look at how this is reflected today with all people on Food Stamps, Big Daddy.
In the Free Market system (Capitalist), the reward is directly related to the effort and the work that the person put into it.
In other words, NO FREE RIDE. If the incentive is killed to go out and work then, it creates a dependence on the government. The government was never set up to be a
          free handout for people.
A couple points about why Obama is a socialist and operates from a socialist agenda.
Obama favors access to Universal health care. He complains that the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. He takes issue with the fact that the Constitution dictates what the government “can’t do to you” This is NOT why the constitution was written, Big Daddy!
Obama is not a proven military leader because he has no experience. To suggest this title, Big Daddy, implies that Obama has had military experience. He has had none. Albeit, judgement is far better to possess then a military leadership in executing the office of the President. We have had some great Presidents with no military experience whatsoever. My point is you called a Obama a “tested, military leader” There is no evidence to support this! By the way, you MUST take into account that Obama had two full years with both houses to get whatever he wanted. My point, you cannot keep blaming Bush for present day failures.
Gotta run, I have to go to work!

        27. big Daddy BC says:

That makes the GOP’s handing out of billions in subsidies to energy corporations and farms socialism. I suppose you could also consider tax write-offs socialist. Social security is socialist. Medicaid must be socialist too. Hmm. When a small business writes off its business costs, would that be socialism or when a citizen replaces his widows with energy star windows and writes it off? How about public schools. Aren’t they meant to level the playing field? Libraries? Kind of a slippery slope here, Bud. These are all measures the government takes to level the playing field. You’ve fallen into the right-wing fear mongering trap. Heck, Bill’s hero, DeVos was just given $1.6 million in tax dollars so that Amway could produce some jobs. Socialism as it’s applied to healthcare, education, police, the armed services, libraries, or any measure meant to encourage economic growth or job production has alway been an integral component in our democracy.

Your problem with Obama being considered a proven military leader confuses me. He’s the Commander and Chief, the highest ranking member of all branches of the service. He’s led our military in its drawdown in Iraq, the surge in Afghanistan and execution of Bin Laden, and the military strikes that ended the Kadafi regime. Are you confused because he didn’t carry a rifle into combat?

Oh, and please prove that Obama called the constitution a ‘charter of negative liberties.’

        28. Dan says:

No, Big Daddy. Not quite! I’m talking about the government instituting programs with handouts that take away a person’s drive to go out an earn something. You cannot say that medicaid, social security and public schools are socialist. At least, right now. If Obama has his way, then, perhaps. Don’t you understand the point? Look at the countless numbers of people on food stamps and/or receiving some type of government assistance. Do they work? Do you think they have any incentive to work? Its part of the whole big picture, socialist agenda, if you will. Share the wealth. Obama and the government will take care of me. This creates dependence on government! The government was set up to govern for the people, not give them handouts!
To your question to me about Obama being a tested military leader, nope I must disagree with you. While he is the head of all the military due to this being one of the duties of the President, he is no Eisenhower, Truman, Jefferson, Jackson, T. Roosevelt. All of these former Presidents held the rank of Colonel and higher. Also, several served in those ranks during war time. Obama was quoted when he was still a senator.
Barack Obama complains that the Constitution is a “charter of negative liberties”. That’s because the Constitution was intended as a limiting document, to curtail the power of the federal government vis-a-vis the states and the individual. The founders intended at the time to limit the reach of the federal government, and built the Constitution accordingly.
The Constitution was written to protect the people from a government with too much power. What do you think Obama was trained to be?
Here is the oath that he took when he was sworn in.

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

        29. Bill Steffen says:

Check out the latest from Dr. Pelkie, Environmental Professor at the University of Colorado: http://rogerpielkejr.blogspot.com/2012/08/ipcc-lead-author-misleads-us-congress.html

        30. big Daddy BC says:

So it’s helping people you have a problem with. It’s okay to hand out billions in corporate welfare but human welfare is wrong? It’s okay to give tax breaks, thus decreasing the overhead for a business, but food stamps for a single mother is a socialist act. It’s okay to give Dick DeVos $1.6 million for job creation but extending insurance coverage to a terminally ill child is socialism. Interesting. I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree. Your earlier post said that, “In Socialism, the government levels the playing field for all.” Maybe you’d like to change that definition to exclude corporate welfare, social security, public schools, libraries, and Medicaid.

Your view of the president’s role as Commander and Chief is interesting. By your definition, only a handful of presidents were actually qualified to be Commanders in Chief. It’s a miracle our nation hasn’t been taken over by every military dictator that’s ever taken over a third-world country. Come on, Dan. If we had required every president to serve as an officer first, we’d never have had JFK, Nixon, or Reagan. Heck, Reagan was an actor. Fact is, Obama did the job GWB was supposed to do. He ended the war in Iraq. He killed the madman that was responsible for the biggest terrorist attack in US history, and he oversaw the campaign to end the reign of Kadafi. I’d say he’s earned our respect as a military leader three-fold.

You conservatives have nothing left. You can’t complain about the economy because YOU wrecked it. You can’t complain about the war because Obama’s winning it. You can’t complain about welfare because the rich now get 10x more than the poor. You can’t complain about anything except Bush’s giant deficit! Remember Cheney, “Debt doesn’t matter…” LOL This is the right’s mess, Dan, no matter how you look at it. It’s a good thing Obama came along when he did. I’m voting for four more years!!!

        31. Bill Steffen says:

Here’s the Obama report card: http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/01/report_card_on_obamas_first_tw.html Things are getting worse, not better. There’s no hope…and only change for the worse.

If you want to close some loopholes, start here: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/general-electric-paid-federal-taxes-2010/story?id=13224558#.UBnNqaCmSSo Corrupt cronyism and you support this crap!

In Socialism, the playing field in NEVER leveled. In the old U.S.S.R., the Poliburo members had their limousines and their dachas.

Half a billion dollars wasted on Solyndra: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-09-18/news/ct-met-kass-0918-20110918_1_solyndra-loan-guarantee-obama-fundraisers-obama-white-house There are dozens more of these scandals out there. The cronies get the tax money, pay themselves hefty salaries, make big political contributions back to the royalty in Washington, then go out business, leaving the taxpayers to foot the bill.

You want gasoline prices to soar to $9 a gallon (European levels) and you want utility rates to “skyrocket”? Think of how many lower class and middle class people will be hurt by that….how many minorities…how many children…and you say “Screw ‘em!”. You have not a gnat’s naval worth of compassion!

        32. Dan says:

I didn’t say that! You are twisting my words. I never said anything about helping people. I said FREE RIDE and HAND OUTS for people who can do something for themselves, yet they do not. I believe the exact wording I used is “taking away peoples’ incentive” You are also twisting my words about what I said about Obama being a tested military leader.
This is pointless! You have your own pig headed view of what you think and you will never accept another point of view!! FORGET it, Big Daddy! We shall see how things play out in the November election. Are you on the government’s handout program and are you afraid you may lose it? Face it, Obama has NO RECORD of accomplishment to run on!! So its more of playing the blame game. REALLY?! Interesting thing about it is that we are still about 100 days away from the election and Obama is in statistical dead heat with Romney. Fact of the matter is, if Obama was the savior that you make him out to be, don’t you think he would be leading by wide margin. You asked me about the constitution, yet you have decided to dodge this one.
Obama is trying to interpret what the constitution says so that he can have MORE power. This is NOT upholding and/or defending it. Your only way to attempt to win an argument is force feed your own views down somebody’s throat!!!
ENJOY your handout, free loader!!! I hope you also enjoy the INCREDIBLE tax burden that will be placed on our kids and our kid’s kids. Is this country better with Obama? Nope! Don’t take my word for it, not that I would think you would anyway. Look at what other leaders say about Obama.
Please do not respond because all you do is twist the words that others say, dilute the truth and YOU don’t really care about the environment! Give a person a handout so he can buy a computer and then a blog so he can attempt to influence others.

      2. big Daddy BC says:

Slow down, Dan. Sometimes the truth is painful. Judging Obama’s success as president by looking at popularity poles, many of which slanted, makes very little sense. As far as his abuse of the constitution, or looking at way of changing it to grant himself more power goes, isn’t that what GWB did when he created the Patriot Act? http://www.scn.org/ccapa/pa-vs-const.html The Patriot Act was the single biggest abuse of power any president has ever committed against our constitution. How easily we forget.

I’m sorry you can’t carry on an intelligent conversation without getting emotional and name calling. As you recall, this is what you chastised me for. So, I tried to engage you, and look what happened. What a shame. But you’re a fine example of the sound-bite, FOX NEWS generation, too lazy to read, too lazy to dig for the truth and when confronted, too confused to even defend your position. You deserve leaders like Romney that smile charmingly while screwing you.

        1. Dan says:

You are wrong again and your attitude of presenting that you are better absolutely STINKS! Everything that you say, you put on the image that you are better. I would ask why you do this but I already know the answer! There you go with all your judgements again. You say, I’m too lazy to read to dig for the truth. You know absolutely nothing about me. LAZY is far from what I am! You have really no idea, do you? You are a weak, sad little man who get his kicks out of shoveling crap over and over and again. What is the matter did Bill hurt your feelings? You must admit that he makes you look so incredibly bad each and every time! Did bobcat get to you? Free loader too strong for you? If the shoe fits, where it. When challenged, you won’t listen and/or accept the information! Furthermore, you look to discredit and deflect the focus. Anything to take it off your pitiful existence, right Big Daddy? Don’t you even try to tell me what do. Emotional huh? WOW, you bought that one hook, line and sinker. Are the American people happy with the direction of the country? Does the constitution mean anything to you? Do you even vote? You are nothing but a weak minded person. The government, specifically BHO has you eating right out of his hand. He must take very good care of you. Has he bought you a car yet? Has he bought you a house yet? If you had even cared about what you are challenging me about, you would be investigating EVERYTHING!
Please, when it comes to what I say, please don’t twist my words. You have no idea about me!! You are a sick man that gets his kicks out of people getting hurt. You think its funny to challenge people to a debate. The only thing about holding said debate is that you pretend that you have invited them. The truth of the matter is, you never invited them. Then, you call them names for not showing up to your debate. Lets see…the army has a word for your kind. Slime and/or pond scum seem to come to mind. I really attempted to give you your do respect and not call you names. It appears, from your posts, that this is really ALL you understand!
Quick, Big Daddy go jump on the save the rainforest, save the polar bears and support Pelosi/Reid campaigns. You might have more influence with those efforts!

        2. Dan says:

By the way, while you bring it up with your reference to the patriot act, this country is not safer under Obama. I’ll reference the military spending cuts for starters. No, you don’t believe those cuts. How about his authority to executive privilege, not using the power, the point is covering for security leaks! Yes, many of them! Do you think that the leader of Iran is not dangerous? How about Putin? China? It is not wise to alienate Israel. Lets see, Mr. President, is Jordan the capital of Israel?
Oh yeah, the great tested military leader, Obama will save you, right?

        3. Dan says:

Oh and Big Daddy. You’re welcome!

        4. big Daddy BC says:

I’m sorry Dan, but more emotional outbursts and name calling only add validity to my earlier conclusion. All I’ve done is offered alternate views of issues you’ve brought up. You presented these and asked me to comment, so I’m somewhat confused by your reaction. I’m not bothered by your reaction, only disappointed. I was hoping for someone that could explain why so many nutballs are willing jump back on the Bush Bandwagon. It’s hard for someone like me, a Clinton moderate, to accept that someone like you, a self-proclaimed Christian, would abandon reason in the face of overwhelming evidence contrary to your position, church’s position, and morality if only to support an ideology. The only thing I’ve really learned from you is that you have no idea what the president has or hasn’t done, have no grasp of the breadth of damage Bush’s team did to our country, and covet that naivety. I truly think that people like you are what’s wrong with this country.

I’d be more than happy anytime to continue this discussion, but hope that you’ll leave the emotion where it belongs and instead rely on logic and information. No hard feelings, but stupid is what stupid does.

        5. Bill Steffen says:

It’s a shame that people like BigDaddy are greedy and selfish…trying desperately to make your utility rates “skyrocket” and your gasoline price soar to $9 a gallon (European levels). We’ve fought them for years. Remember how the Republican Party pushed through the Civil Rights Act:

          The original House version:[16]

          Democratic Party: 152–96 (61–39%)
          Republican Party: 138–34 (80–20%)

          Cloture in the Senate:[17]

          Democratic Party: 44–23 (66–34%)
          Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

          The Senate version:[16]

          Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%)
          Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

The Senate version, voted on by the House:[16]

          Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%)
          Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%)

How many of you who are minorities want $9 a gallon gasoline? http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/03/21/energy-secretary-chus-hopeless-clean-energy-crush/ or “skyrocketing” energy prices? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvKWRUEG4KM How many of the elderly, those on fixed income? the disabled, young people out of college trying to find a job. BigDaddy takes this money for rich union bosses and boondoggles like Solyndra: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-09-18/news/ct-met-kass-0918-20110918_1_solyndra-loan-guarantee-obama-fundraisers-obama-white-house

People are getting wise to your disdain for the lower and middle class. You’re heartless, compassionless and of course, wrong on catastrophic climate change from CO2.

        6. big Daddy BC says:

LOL Not getting enough attention, Bill? Sure nice of you to come to Dan’s aid.
It’s flattering how much you think I’m capable of accomplishing…raising taxes, giving it all to union bosses, raising utility bills, bilking the middle class. Wow, I’m a regular Snidely Whiplash.
How about letting Dan speak for himself.

In the meantime, here’s your man:

““Dad!” he yelled. “Gross!” A brown liquid was dripping down the rear window, payback from an Irish setter who’d been riding on the roof in the wind for hours. As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Mitt coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the road with the dog still on the roof.”
          http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/02/mitt-romney-201202

        7. Dan says:

Big Daddy, You have done nothing but solidify your own blindness. You put others down if they don’t share your opinion. Your opinion is not always right! I’m not emotional, just frustrated that you can jump to such ridiculous conclusions. Your conclusions are not based in fact or reason. You claim that I only use emotion. Lets look at this a bit closer. You never accepted what I had presented which was a lot of facts. You only attempt to see what you want to see. Didn’t you admonish me about looking at thing critically? Did you? I believe the word you used was “skepticism”, right? All I have been asking is for you to do the same. Instead, you make these irrational topic jumps. First, I told you I would respond to the Socialism verses Free Enterprise. You then took what I said and twisted it to say that medicaid, social security, tax write offs, and the public schools are all socialist. That is not what I said! You also posted that you believe that Obama is tested military leader. I took exception to this title. The term, “tested military leader” implies, a soldier who has served and moved up in the ranks of the military. You stated that this confused you because he is the commander in chief.
You didn’t call him that. Furthermore, you made it sound like he is a brilliant military strategist. This is just not the case. I have a very good grasp of what of the president has and has not done. I’m not perfect and yes, I have made several mistakes. How else do you learn? You think, I’m what is wrong with this country? Hmm? Lets see, I work two sometimes, three jobs to take care of the needs of my family. I have never not paid my taxes. I work in a field to take care of people that have suffered. I have worked to earn every dollar that I get paid. It just stinks that Obama is so radically different and he has this country on the wrong track. Furthermore, my kid’s and my kid’s kids will have to pay for his spending. He doesn’t care and he provides no incentive for people who could work. He promises everything so that the government will continue to grow and have more control! He demonizes the business owner by saying that they didn’t build their businesses by themselves. I know several business owners and I can tell you for a fact that the government did NOT help them become successful. It’s wrong that he is allowed to do this! Truthfully, it is NOT even his money! He is arrogant and doesn’t listen to people! Obamacare will only increase the other escalating taxes. There is so much corruption and lies. It bugs me that Obama thinks he can “dupe” everybody with his hidden agenda! Did you ever bother to read his book?
He plays dirty politics and he has the henchmen in place to carry out bogus claims. Obama has no success for any of his policies so he’ll say anything and do anything to get re elected. He gave millions to Egypt! Are you aware that Egypt is now controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood? If you don’t know about them, then you are burying your head in the sand. That is what frustrates me, I make a point and you twist to say that I have said something else!

        8. big Daddy BC says:

Now we’re getting somewhere. I think that’s the best paragraph you’ve written. It had heart and I respect you for it. My comment about what’s wrong with this country had more to do with my frustration about an enormous block of people that root for a team regardless of how criminal, immoral, or foolish they are then how you take care of your family. That’s not at all what I meant. A good example is Gov. Snyder. This man took over our state, immediately raised taxes on the middle class and working poor, cut funding for education, police, and fire, cut taxes for corporations to zero, began taxing retirees’ pensions, and then signed the unconstitutional Emergency Manager Act into law. He grew government and raised taxes, two of the most un-conservative things a republican can do, yet teabaggers like Bill Steffen are singing his praises. What happened to thinking people?

Obama is a different cat altogether and I understand why the right doesn’t like him. He reformed Wall Street to prevent another landslide like what happened under Bush/GOP. Repubs hate regulations, but without them no one’s watching the henhouse. There’s a reason why the ultra rich went from controlling 80 billion to controlling 400 billion over the last decade…deregulation, expensive tax cuts, and an unnecessary, super expensive war. At the same time, not coincidently, the middle class shrunk while the working poor grew.

Obama’s Universal Healthcare bill is largely misunderstood. Health insurance will DECREASE because of it. There are 50 million people in this country without insurance right now. They will all become a part of the system, lowering overall premiums. People like you with families will pay less for insurance. How’s that bad? …Because the government’s making you have insurance? So what. The government is making us because we should AND because it benefits all of us. It’s been deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court and will not be undone because it’s right.

I know you’re concerned about the debt. To be honest, so am I, but Cheney wasn’t, so why is the right suddenly so worried? It’s confusing. Cheney said, “Debt doesn’t matter…” It’s convenient that the GOP suddenly thinks it does matter now. Heck, Dan, Bush created most of it. I’ve put up graphics numerous times to show how his tax cuts, the war in Iraq, and subsides have created this giant debt. If the debt’s so important, why aren’t the conservatives willing to part with these things. It’s simple. It’s a ploy, an election year ploy, kind of like the BS Romney was trying sell in Isreal. What a load. Obama’s never taken a full military strike against Iran off the table. Romney didn’t say anything the Whitehouse hadn’t already said. It’s another fricken ploy. That rich bastard wants what all rich bastards want, power and more money. His money’s in the Caiman Islands and Switzerland not trickling down to you and I. Bain was a specialist at shipping jobs overseas and took government bailouts. And Romney is another republican bully. He abuses animals, in school forced another kid to the ground and cut his hair for being feminine, and locked a handicapped teacher in the closet. Is that the man you want at the helm? Bush was embarrassing enough.
And as far as Obama’s successes and failures. History will judge them, but please realize that because of the sources you use for information, you’re not getting an accurate picture. Obama’s going to mop the stage with Romney, not because he plays dirty (which is hillarious considering that’s a GOP staple), not because he’s in bed with GM (as Bill continually claims), not because his middle name is middle eastern, but because if he hadn’t had any successes, like you claim, we’d have sunk into that depression Bush started, two of the Big Three would have gone under destroying Michigan, we’d still be fighting in Iraq, and Bin Laden would be alive and well. I can’t say it any more plainly.

        9. Dan says:

Well, Romney is NOT perfect. Then, no candidate for in this present age will ever be. He does have business experience, which if you look at running the country in an objective manner, that is great experience to have. Are you kidding me? You are going all the way back to 1965 to dig up dirt on Romney? This is further evidence of Chicago style politics. Big Daddy, you NEED to have a very close look at what happened in the Senator elections as Obama was running. Don’t take my word for it, REALLY analyze this closely. Now, Reid is claiming that Romney did not pay taxes for 10 years? Grasping at straws is Mr. Reid, would you say? Is he serious? What person would even attempt to run for President if he hadn’t paid his taxes? Furthermore, the IRS should be investigating Reid on this information. Its called confidentiality. I realize that you do not like Snyder. This is very obvious. However, Obama is weakening our nation!
Make no mistake about it! These are dangerous times. You do not make allies with the Muslim Brotherhood. You don’t appear to grasp the gravity of a situation like this! The financial collapse happened because of greed! The banks and wall street were so committed to “shady deals” they would allow anything in terms of big money deals to go through.
One point about Obamacare. If it so great, how come all the White House admin and all top aides are exempt from it? Isn’t supposed to be the best thing going? Why exempt them?
As is obvious, I’m for a secure country that will protect its borders and small government! Government is supposed to serve the people, not the other way around! You may have stated your reasons for Obama, plain and simple! Make no mistake about it, he is for big government, red tape control, a weaker military and the “status” of being President. Please just look at his itinerary on any given month. You also labeled Romney as a rich bully, right? What do you think Obama is?
You certainly cannot say he is poor!

        10. big Daddy BC says:

Okay, but what you’re failing to do is tie the rule-makers to the rule-breakers. Those shady bank deals were possible because of Bush deregulations. It’ll happen again with a President Romney. That’s the GOP’s M.O. …Let the rich regulate the market. That’s why the rich overwhelmingly support the GOP. You passed right over the Snyder stuff, conveniently, but again, that’s how he’s running Michigan, give all the power and money to the rich. It’s sick. Romney’s filthy rich, btw. Obama’s not. Romney is worth a quarter billion, Dan. He doesn’t pay taxes on most of it because he keeps it off shore. That’s why I made the ‘trickle down’ reference above. It doesn’t happen when all the money’s in Switzerland.

Those examples I gave go to character. If you’ll abuse a dog, a classmate and a teacher, what are you going to do as the most powerful man on Earth. God help us if this guy gets into office.

As far as Obama’s ties to some Muslim brotherhood. I flatly don’t believe a word of it. It’s as crazy as the conspiracy theory that Bush crashed those planes into the World Trade Center. …Or that Bin Laden was hired by Cheney. Obama’s been president for three years. What benefit has there been for the Muslims under his presidency. You realize he’s killed more Muslims than Bush, sent in more drones, executed more air strikes in Afghanistan, and took the head off the Al Queda terrorist organization. He’s not muslim-friendly. It doesn’t add up. This relationship was dreamed up by some right-wing activist. It’s crazy.

All of us want secure borders and a strong army. That’s not a republican thing, but it is expensive. Again, if you don’t want debt, raise taxes and decrease spending. That’s how you’d do it at your own house. An army costs money, so do tax cuts, and subsidies. These are things Obama’s been trying to reduce, but the GOP legislators won’t let him. Those Majority Agenda commercials are a joke. The republicans have been blocking spending cuts from day one. The problem is, they won’t support spending cuts that affect their billionaire supporters, Exxon, Koch, the entire American Legislative Exchange Council, The National Corn Growers Assoc., etc.

I’m not sure about the healthcare issue you brought up, politicians being exempted, although I know politicians get all kinds of exemptions. I’m for holding them ALL to the same standards as the rest of us, but since THEY make the rules, sadly it’ll never happen.

        11. Dan says:

Ah, your last line in that post, I whole heartily agree with. They “politicians” make the rules. Most, if not all are “career politicians.” Point being, they can NEVER relate to me or the majority of the American people! As far as Obama’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, Big Daddy, look it up and do some serious research. Don’t just look at the left’s information.
Read his book for starters! I gotta go, I’ll return later!

        12. big Daddy BC says:

Funding the Eqyptian infrastructure after a civil war and giving money to the Muslim Brotherhood are two entirely different things. The US has historically made many friends of terrorists and dictators. Heck, we supplied Bin Laden with weapons in Afghanistan before he attacked the Trade Center. We gave Sadam millions and US weapons in its fight with Iran. It’s not unusual and a good example of the old ‘lesser of two evils,’ saying. The right is exploiting the fact that members of the Muslim Brotherhood, which exist in more than eighty countries, count themselves among the new leaders of Eqypt.

        13. Bill Steffen says:

Hey, Michael S. Look at this: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-09/goldman-sachs-leads-split-with-obama-as-ge-jilts-him-too.html What’s going on at GE? Must be GE is worried that you can’t sell as many of those “green” appliances when the unemployment rate is going up (to 8.3% now). Is GE better off today than it was pre-Immelt? How’s that GE stock done since 2001, Mikey? …and after all those tens of millions of dollars lobbying! GE is the biggest lobbyist corporate entity in the world! And what did all that lobbying get you (see stock price again). Are you better off than you were 5 trillion dollars in debt ago? Here you are wasting time on a weather blog when you should be telling your co-workers at GE how they need to get back to saving the planet! Immelt is Obama’s jobs czar and the jobs team hasn’t met in 7 months! Naw…too busy fundraising and playing golf. Here, read the article again: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-09/goldman-sachs-leads-split-with-obama-as-ge-jilts-him-too.html

        14. big Daddy BC says:

Michael S? What are you talking about, old timer? We don’t care about GE, but if we did we’d tell you that they only reason they posted a loss was because of lingering charges from financing companies. Other than that, business is booming, 15% plus increases are projected for the year. But even so, GE posted a profit of 3 billion for the quarter while Exxon posted 10 billion. AND WE’RE SUBSIDIZING THEM!!! You republicans have your priorities all screwed up. How can you decrease spending without actually decreasing spending? What a joke.

        15. Bill Steffen says:

You should care about GE. They are the BIGGEST corporate lobbyist in the world…much bigger than any oil company. Wow this is from your guys…the FAR-left Think Progress:

GENERAL ELECTRIC: General Electric spent $13 million in campaign contributions and $205 million in lobbying expenditures over the last decade while netting a tax refund of $4.1 billion over the past five years. It made $26 billion in profits over the same time period.

And they paid NO TAX: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/general-electric-paid-federal-taxes-2010/story?id=13224558#.UCcZwaCmSSo (check out the video here at the link). Look at the outsourcing done by the crony capitalists on Obama’s jobs council: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/12/obama-jobs-council-outsourcing_n_1666443.html

Here’s more on the hefty taxes Exxon-Mobil pays: http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2009/02/11/exxon-big-oil-profits-evil-only-until-you-weigh-their-tax-bills

          While I’m here…check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNKfbO_PvkI

        16. big Daddy BC says:

Actually AT&T, your parent company, is the biggest lobbiest in the US, but nice try. AT&T contributed more the GWB than any other organization.

EXXON gets billions in tax dollars for doing business in the US. They pay NO taxes, because we pay the taxes for them, AND they made $41 billion in profits last year! You’re backing the evil empire, Dumb Dumb.

          http://www.knowthecandidates.org/ktc/bushcontributors.htm

        17. Bill Steffen says:

A T & T is NOT my “parent company”…who told you that?? Or is this just another of your lies (like when you said that Romney was a polygamist…he’s not, you lied). GE is BY FAR the biggest corporate lobbyist: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/ge-top-corporate-spender-lobbying/story?id=13087750#.UCiNX6CmSSo The ABC NEWS article says: “It is an approach that has helped GE become the nation’s top corporate spender on lobbying, spending more than $238 million on lobbyists over the past 12 years, according to the Center for Responsive Politics — money that has helped GE gain access to the corridors of power and some of the most remote crevices of the governing process. GE sits high atop the list of corporate spenders. AT&T, the nearest competitor, spent $162 million, while Northrop Grumman and Exxon Mobil spent just over $150 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

According to the Washington Post, Exxon paid 21.6 BILLION in taxes from 2005 to 2010. http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/how-much-do-oil-companies-really-pay-in-taxes/2011/05/11/AF7UNutG_story.html

        18. big Daddy BC says:

Should have said former parent company. AT&T did own WOOD and had a 45% stake in LIN for several years but sold it back to LIN. Shouldn’t you know that?
Point is, you’re station is a part of the corporate problem. It should be no surprise that they pay a staff to run this right-wing blog.

        19. Bill Steffen says:

Yawn…every corporation that you can’t control is a problem to you. The “staff” that runs this weather blog is me. Now this is more interesting: http://iceagenow.info/2012/08/snow-record-broken-south-africa/ The METSUL group of meteorologists/climatologists in Brazil has mentioned that the cool winter in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia, too: http://iceagenow.info/2012/08/south-wales-records-coldest-august-nights/ ) portends a cold winter for much of the populated areas of the N. Hemisphere.

        20. big Daddy BC says:

…Links to Ice Age Now? LOL I love how desperate the deniers are for science to support their position. …So desperate that the Koch Brothers funded Berkeley’s attempt to discredit climate change science. Berkeley ended up supporting climate change science and even putting a sharper edge on it. They supported what NASA, NOAA, and the gang have been saying all along. Climate change is a result of Global Warming and is caused by the sharp increase in atmospheric CO2 since the industrial revolution.

          http://berkeleyearth.org/

        21. Bill Steffen says:

You never dispute any facts I present. I gave you all those links to actual stories about unusual cold and snow in S. Africa, dozens of dead from cold in S. America, unusual cold in Australia, a cool and wet weather across NW Europe and an ALL-TIME RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE at the S. Pole. The global temperature for 2012 is now .001 degree warmer than average…so…AVERAGE. These are all facts and you haven’t even tried to refute them, because you can’t.

          Here’s another: http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/First-time-ever-Snow-in-all-9-provinces-20120808

        22. big Daddy BC says:

How am I supposed to dispute anecdotes from a site called Ice Age Now? LOL Let me get my transporter out and check out your supposed anomalies. Give me a break. Global warming is causing the climate to change. That doesn’t mean the cold is disappearing or that snow has gone the way of the T-Rex. It simply means that the rules are changing. Get a grip, Old Timer.

        23. Bill Steffen says:

Right…global warming is causing it to get colder.

The truth is…global temperature has been flat for over a decade: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif

Even the New York Times admits it:

“…that lull in warming has occurred even as greenhouse gases have accumulated in the atmosphere at a record pace. The slowdown is a bit of a mystery to climate scientists.

And CO2 emissions are going DOWN in the U.S.: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2012/08/in-a-surprise-co2-emissions-hit-20-year-low/1#.Ubv61tj-vKc

    4. Scott (west olive) says:

Might have affected the corn crop, but only expected to lose at most 45% of crops nationwide. Not too bad since this year they had the biggest yield of corn ever planted so it kinda makes up for it. Don’t go getting your panties in a bunch.

      1. Bill Steffen says:

Scott’s right. Also this is a world economy now and while we’ll be down this year, South America will be up: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-07-31/south-america-readies-record-crops-amid-u-s-drought.html

        1. big Daddy BC says:

On the bright side, rainforest burning has increased. Nevermind the billions in losses the US is experiencing due to a devastating two your drought. Maybe Columbia will step up and give us some bananas to compensate for the 80% of corn that’s been affected here. LOL We all know how much those S.A. countries love the US.

        2. Bill Steffen says:

We’re not burning rainforests in the U.S. (I’m sure if we were, you’d say it was Bush’s fault). We don’t dictate land use to other countries. If you’d like to go down to the S. American rain forest and convince them to do otherwise, or donate (I can explain what a private donation is to you if you’re not clear) feel free. South America will compensate for the loss of some corn and other crops here in the U.S. This is a global economy and despite the dire predictions of people like Paul Ehrlich (that I was forced to regurgitate to earn my double-major at the Univ. of Wisconsin), the world grows more than enough food to feed all of humanity.

Much of S. America doesn’t hate us. Obama’s the President, the rest of the world loves us, right? LOL! He even got a Nobel Prize: https://twitter.com/realjonlovitz/status/225618907413757953 I’ve been to Venezuela (Chavez-land) and I found the people very friendly toward me and other Americans (and quite a few of them we not exactly happy with their government).

        3. big Daddy BC says:

You use of ‘world economy’ lends itself to a picturesque utopian albeit socialist view of the planet. We both know that’s not the case. Countries in S.A. do not care that we’ve lost more than half our corn and billions in beef and winter wheat. They’re not gonna share, Magoo. LOL

BTW, congratulation on going to Venezuela. We’re all very happy for you. Must be nice to be a part of the 1% club, Bragger. No one cares what your opinion of the South American man on the street is. What a joke.

        4. Bill Steffen says:

There is nothing you’d like better than a socialist world, where the nanny state regulates the minutia of the food you eat and the rainforest coffee you drink. We have a good year and our farmers make money. Then they have a good year and their farmers make money.

Yup only the 1% crowd can afford to take an international vacation. How did Obama get to travel the world? Who paid for that Ivy League education? Why won’t he release his college transcrips? Answer that one! I went to Venezuela on TV station business.

http://www.southafrica.info/news/snow-070812.htm Much of the world is cooler than average right now. http://www.ktuu.com/news/alaska-damp-summer-fades-out-wildfire-season-ktuu-20120806,0,757700.story http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/australia/7863227/Australians-shiver-through-coldest-winter-morning-in-30-years.html

        5. big Daddy BC says:

How did Obama travel? Is that the latest conspiracy theory, because I’ve seen you post about it on multiple threads. I don’t have a crystal ball or access to the president’s bank records. Have you heard of scholarships. I’d start there for the college education. What’s your theory? …that the Muslim Brotherhood flew him around on vacations with the hope that someday he’d be president? LOL

Socialism and a free market are NOT mutually exclusive. We have many wonderful social policies and could not be the great country we are without them…social security, public libraries, medicaid, subsidies, etc. What nut jobs like you ignore is the fact that it takes elements from both to create balance in a free society.

        6. big Daddy BC says:

Actually he got several scholarships. It’s right here in my crystal ball along with his financial statements. LOL You don’t know whether he got scholarships either, Einstein! So do you have the balls to say where you think the money came from or are you just gonna stand on the side and insinuate like a passive aggressive fingerling?

        7. big Daddy BC says:

That’s what you post? …A homemade video that questions Tom B’s competence as a journalist. What’s that got to do with anything, Bill?

        8. Bill Steffen says:

The “homemade” video is just a link to part of the Rose Show. What wasn’t shown in this video is a rather long point that Brokaw made about how nobody knows much of anything about Obama and that journalists were surprisingly unwilling to ask relevant questions. Remember this is coming from the liberal Brokaw.

Why did Obama knowingly leave the “Born in Kenya” on manuscripts without correcting it? Who did pay for his college education?…if he had scholarships, why doesn’t he tell us that? Who did pay for him to travel the world?

The real issue is the economy, which isn’t getting better – unemployment up to 8.3% last month. The deficits are huge (1.7 trillion this year) and unsustainable. Harry Reid hasn’t done a budget in 3 years, even though he’s required to do one. Obama’s budget got thumped 99-0: http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/227857-senate-rejects-obama-budget-in-99-0-vote/

I’ve explained before that even Keynesian economics teaches you don’t raise taxes in bad economic times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEdXrfIMdiU Sucking more money out of the economy or ending oil subsidies won’t put people back to work. Even if you got a massive tax increase, you’d just go spend it on more worthless projects like Solyndra: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-09-18/news/ct-met-kass-0918-20110918_1_solyndra-loan-guarantee-obama-fundraisers-obama-white-house and the deficits would skyrocket until you can’t borrow (steal) anymore from the next generation or you just print money until we’re Zimbabwe with massive inflation. You have no serious plan. Bereft of ideas you are left to spread lies (like when you said that Romney was a polygamist…he’s not…you lied) on a weather blog.

        9. big Daddy BC says:

The team that fixed Bush’s recession, stopping it from becoming a depression, is not suggesting a tax increase. What they’re suggesting is a spending decrease. I’m not sure if you know this, but Obama has shrunk government more that both GWB and his father. Cutting tax-breaks for the rich will NOT hurt the economy. The rich have gone from controlling $80 billion to controlling $400 billion in the last ten years. They’re doing just fine.
Raising silly questions about how he paid for college is just another right-wing distraction. What you should be concerned about is why your party has been an obstructionist force. Rather than working to fix our economy, they’ve been working toward the next election cycle. That’s why this congress has been deemed the ‘Constipation Congress.’

“These Republican obstructionists wouldn’t pass gas if they thought it might help our president heal our economy,” -Martin O’Malley
          http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/maryland-politics/post/in-colorful-nh-speech-omalley-decries-constipation-congress/2012/06/02/gJQAboFX9U_blog.html

        10. Bill Steffen says:

Fixed the recession? Unemployment went UP last month to 8.3%.

Poll direction of the country: http://images.politico.com/global/2012/08/politico_gw_bg_48_questionnaire.pdf

Right track 32% WRONG TRACK 61% You guys had 2 years with full control – including 60 votes in the Senate.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/13/us-economy-usa-poll-idUSBRE85C1D020120613 The article says: “”Historically, presidents don’t usually get re-elected when the economy is performing as sluggishly as it is now,” said Nigel Gault, chief U.S. economist at IHS Global Insight. “Many people out there, if you asked them in surveys, they’d say they still view the economy as being in recession.”

        11. big Daddy BC says:

Those two years were spent saving auto companies and stimulating the economy so that our recession didn’t become a depression. Four million people lost their jobs in the six months before Obama was sworn in. Another million lost their jobs before any of his policies took effect.
The GOP has stopped every measure that would help this president fix our nation. The billionaires would love another round of Bush and that’s what the Romney/Ryan ticket would give them, unfettered control over Wallstreet, the banks, and the Army. God help us! The middle class has not recovered. To many people lost everything. It’ll take a generation.

Here’s a little something for perspective.

        13. Bill Steffen says:

Yeah, look at bigDaddy’s link. The graph stops in 2009. Obama won in 2008. Unemployment is 8.3% right now. Go back and look at the graph…8.3% …makes those Bush years look a whole lot better by comparison. Thanks.

        14. big Daddy BC says:

That graph shows UNemployment, Dumb Dumb. LOL

        15. Bill Steffen says:

Middle of 2013 and unemployment is still much higher than the average of the Bush years and the Clinton years. How are African-American job prospects after 4 1/2 years of Obama: http://thewestsidegazette.com/black-unemployment-rate-increases-to-13-5-percent-in-may-2013/

      2. big Daddy BC says:

        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/15/ann-romney-tax-returns_n_1778376.html

        1. Bill Steffen says:

That’s absolute nonsense! It shows how desperate you and Harry Reid are…”an investor” told Harry Reid? Harry, put up or quit lyin’. It’s all a diversion from the real story…

Unemployment up AGAIN in July…to 8.3% – up in 44 of the 50 states! And you want to make it worse by making utility bills “skyrocket” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7txAgXTbig) and forcing the price of a gallon of gas to go to “European levels” (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/73138.html). Think what that would do the poor and middle class!

Hey, look at this: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/senate/wi/wisconsin_senate_thompson_vs_baldwin-2711.html Wisconsin is going to have two Republican Senators! And Thompson is going to help Romney in Wisconsin. Scott Walker had a 2% bigger margin in his recall than in the general election.

        2. big Daddy BC says:

          http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120822/OPINION03/208220310/1008/OPINION01/Paul-Ryan-s-addition-concern-teachers

Throwing more of our hard-earned tax dollars at billionaires and oil companies will only hurt the middle class further. You 1%ers don’t want to fix anything.

        3. Bill Steffen says:

You linked to an op-ed from the head of the MEA! Check this out: http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/19329562/new-michigan-poll-has-romney-ahead-of-obama Education advanced the most in the last term of Reagan. Look how many high schools were built with the wealth created by the Reagan economy. Unemployment is going up. Look at the CBO numbers just out: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/2012/0822/CBO-on-fiscal-cliff-newest-estimate-is-gloomiest-yet And you want to make it worse with a big tax increase and suck more money out of the economy. John Kennedy wouldn’t do that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AAEp0J_hzU

        4. big Daddy BC says:

Romney’s plan raises taxes on the middle class to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and corporations. JFK is rolling over in his grave after you used his name.

        5. Bill Steffen says:

John Kennedy was a tax cutter. He knew that boosted the economy. Just listen to him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AAEp0J_hzU You’re plan is “skyrocketing” utility rates and $9 a gallon “European level” gasoline prices. A shameful burden to put on the poor and middle class. You’re plan is to waste billions of dollars on green energy, crony boondoggles like Solyndra and LGChem. You’re plan is to spend billions spying on law-abiding Americans like the AP reporters and Sheryl Atkinson of CBS.

    5. Jack says:

All this Political Propaganda…Is as Useless as…..A SCREEN DOOR ON A SUBMARINE…!!!!!!!!

  5. Jordan (Twin Lake) says:

You know I find it hard to believe that Coopersville received 3.16″ of rain yesterday and the rainfall total map only showed 1″ hmmmm perhaps somebody foregot to empty their rain gage

    1. Rck (Coopersville) says:

I am not sure how much rain we did get because I don’t have a rain gauge but I can tell you this. The storm drains here in the town of Coopersville couldn’t keep up there was alot of water over the roads.

  6. Spaceweather.com says there is increasing meteor activity due, in part, to Earth passing through the debris field of Comet 96P/Machholz, source of the annual delta Aquarid meteor shower. They say, “Forecasters expect as many as 15 delta Aquarids per hour when the shower peaks on July 28th and 29th. The best time to look, no matter where you live, is during the dark hours before sunrise on Saturday and Sunday when the moon has set and the constellation Aquarius is relatively high in the sky.” Last night, they report, “NASA’s All Sky Fireball Network detected 17 Venus-bright meteors.”

http://spaceweather.com (scroll down to “METEOR ACTIVITY INCREASES”

  7. Tom L says:

For those of us amateur radio operators, all of that comet debris can be a great aid in creating some DX ,(long distance), transmission/reception opportunities!
    Fun times for we “hams!”

  8. Nathan says:

Does anyone know if the water spouts on Lake Michigan count as tornadoes for Michigan? I know our annual yearly average is 16, so waterspouts would really help out that number!

    1. bnoppe(Albion) says:

Waterspouts ARE tornadoes over water. They have rotating winds of up to 100 mph or occasionally more and strong upward motion within their funnel, just like a tornado over land. They would certainly cause damage to anything that they ran into, but generally there is nothing to damage unless they come onshore.

So the National Weather Service (NWS) archives reports and computes statistics separately for waterspouts versus tornadoes. Had the waterspout come onshore and caused damage, however, it would have then been classified by the NWS as a tornado. What this means is that the tornado counts and statistics that the NWS keeps, and we cite on The Weather Channel, are for land areas where there are normally objects to damage. Waterspout statistics are kept separately for reports from over-water areas.

    2. Jack says:

Hey, Nathan….The answer is…NO. IF The Water Spouts , Had come On Shore (land) which IS VERY RARE…Then the N.W.S. Would have added To The TORNADO COUNT… Hope This Inf. Helps…. :-)
