Freeze Warning/Frost Advisory

September 26th, 2012 at 4:09 pm by under Bill's Blog, Weather

There’s a Freeze Warning for Lake, Osceola and Clare counties to the north and a Frost Advisory for Manistee, Mason, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Montcalm, Isabella and Gratiot Counties.  Temperatures in the usual cool spots north and northeast of G.R. will likely hit the low 30s.  We’ll hold in the upper 30s to low 40s from Grand Rapids to the southwest.  There could be a touch of frost in the cool spots again Thursday night.

It is that time of year. Brings beautiful fall colors, good sleeping nights, and getting out the flannel sheets. Every year, God does not deny us this pleasure!

    1. Jack says:

Amen to That…Hugh.! God is Good All The Time..,!!

    2. Brad says:

Hmmm…the seasons are a “gap” we figured out centuries ago…no need for “God.”

      1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

There is a need…some just choose not to accept it.

        1. Brad says:

No, there is a valid scientific explanation for what we experience as seasons. Next…

        2. Jack says:

Brad, You Are BLINDED….By Science..I’m Praying for You Brad. God Bless… :-)

        3. Brad says:

So, Jack, why doesn’t God bless folks near the equator who do not experience distinctive seasons?

        4. fixxxer says:

Please keep the religious debates out of here. Gets annoying.

Too bad Ionia county isn’t included, we need a hard frost to kill off the midge (EHD) that is wreaking havoc on the whitetailed deer herd.

    1. Jeff (Nothern Ionia) says:

Agreed, Frost can not come quick enough here in Ionia

      1. GunLakeDeb says:

Praying for a freeze here in Barry County, too. Fall kayaking is awesome – but our local rivers have become “Rivers of Death” It would be bad enough to see/smell the dead deer – but to come across one in the throes of dying….. well, I couldn’t bear that.

    2. Jason says:

I am curious though it seems to me with the really mild winter we had wasn’t the whitetail population up? That seems to also have contributed to the herd. Seems like whenever the heard gets overpopulated they seem to be more prone to disease. Also is it just me or did they have a late season second birth of fawns this year. Just curious.

Here is a video of a toy train taking a journey in a weather balloon to the upper atmosphere.

(Technically the lower stratosphere; basically where the bottom of the ozone layer is. The atmospheric pressure at balloon burst is about 1 – 5% of what it is at the ground. Above the stratosphere is the mesosphere and the thermosphere.)

    1. GunLakeDeb says:

That was just too cute!! I WAS glad to read all the safety precautions the Dad took before he launched this :-)
