Freeze Warning

October 6th, 2012 at 11:11 am by under Bill's Blog, Weather

Local   2:30 PM Sunday – headed downtown to meet people outside our Art Museum studio from 4-6 PM.  Still a few light showers and sprinkles…one waterspout this morning on Lake Michigan (and I bet there were more). – Showers in the lakeshore counties should continue into the early evening, then fade away.   There were more numerous showers in northern Lower Michigan and a mix of rain and snow across the U.P. (snowing at  Houghton and near Marquette Saturday).  Two inches of snow was reported at Bessemer and 3.5″ of new snow was reported at Herman.  There is a chance of a little sleet/ice pellet mix and a chance of a waterspout on Lake Michigan.  If you get a pic. of a waterspout, send it to us at ReportIt at www.woodtv.com   The high Saturday was 48 today in G.R.  So this was the coldest day since April 10th.  There’s a Freeze Warning for all but the lakeshore counties for Monnday morning.  Winds will hold at the lakeshore, so no freeze there.  Gale Warnings will be up for Lake Michigan for Monday and Tuesday.   Today is the last day of ArtPrize.  I’ll be at our Art Prize Studio  today for a meet-and-greet from 4-6 pm.  Stop down and say “hi”.    Also – wonder if this could be an ArtPrize Entry.

Also, they had up to 14″ of snow (10 NNW Badger MN) from the early season snowstorm in NE ND and NW MN.    Here’s a fall color report.  My sources say we’re a little farther along than the map at the link indicates.  The color change is running about 3 – 7 days earlier than last year.  Up to 14″ of snow fell in northern Minnesota!  The chance of significant snow in the first week of October in N. Minnesota is only 5%, so this was indeed an early winter storm.  Snow also fell in Montana, Wyoming and W. Nebraska, Colorado, and S. Dakota.

Here’s WOOD-TV Interactive Radar, looping radar. Check out the current conditions, regional radar, GRR radar, northern Indiana radar, Chicago radar and Milwaukee radar. 1. Imthemom (just n holland) says:

I live 4 mi from the lake. The sprinkles are like 2 steps away from sleet. When they hit the car windshield they sound “ticky” but they don’t splat out. Real scientific I know, but I hope you know what I mean.

  2. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Bill you have a typo. You said the color change is running 3-7 degrees earlier than last year. You mean 3-7 days?

  3. Scott (west olive) says:

It feels like 3 -7 deg t the football game. Brrrrrr

    1. Bill Steffen says:

      Got it…thanks, Scott and Nathan.

      1. Brad (Lawrence) says:

It’s what happens when your mind is going faster than your fingers can type. :P

  4. Mike in Hamilton says:

Occasional ice pellets in holland this morning. Not a good day to be outside.

  5. Matt(Grand Haven) says:

Had some decent sleet with a few of the showers this morning in Spring Lake and Grand Haven.

  6. fixxxer says:

horrible weather, too early for this cold snap. i cannot see how anyone in their right mind can enjoy this.

    1. Jordan (Twin Lake) says:

Too early fixxxer? welcome to October ha! fixxxer, by the middle of next month well be seeing clippers with bitterly cold not that I enjoy the cold but I enjoy the snow :)

      1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

I actually don’t enjoy this either. 40′s and rain is just terrible! I’ll take 30 and snow or 60 and rain, but this is horrible.

    2. Brad (Lawrence) says:

I think if you put your mind to it, you can find ways to enjoy this weather…just like when it’s 85 and sunny.

    3. Bruiseviolet (Cedar Springs) says:

Well I enjoyed today’s weather with my family at the Red Flannel Festival! Then the whole family came over for Chili. Perfect fall day!

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

I’m not into the Red Flannel at all, maybe it was years of being in Northview Marching Band and having to come up here for the competition like this weekend sometimes worse with it downpouring colder then this and had to sit through it at “parade rest”. ARGH! But CP Red Flannel lost it’s touch also, the carnaville on wheels charges to much! But the Chili sounds PERFECT, to bad my GERD doesn’t handle it well.

    4. GunLakeDeb says:

I *think* I’m in my right mind and I’m enjoying this craptastic day :-) I need to mow the lawn at work and blow some leaves – but it’s a cinch that can’t happen in THIS kind of weather….LOL!! Unfortunately, I just checked the 10 day forecast and it looks like a repeat of this weekend for NEXT weekend; and I have 25 people going on a “Color Tour” by kayak. Rats – guess we’d better bundle up and wear our rain gear….

  7. Jack says:

Cue: Simon and Garfunkel …Hazy Shade of Winter…….. :-(

    1. Irish coffee says:

      a la 50 SHADES of GRAY? ;)

  8. Cassie (Kentwood) says:

It went from being pleasant in the high 70′s to really cold and talking about snow…:( Welcome to fall!

    1. fixxxer says:

      No welcome to michigan.

      1. Cort S. says:

New Hampshire had the same experience. Welcome to the middle latitudes. :)

  9. M says:

Snowing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I wish it was snowing here in Grand Rapids. A ideal winter for me, would be 300 inches of snow and snow on the ground for 5 months straight and cloudy skies. Parts of Alaska, gets that type of weather. maybe I should move there. Valdez. Alaska. I would rather see tons of snow than severe weather.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

ROCK ON – 300 inches of snow would be like heaven, especially if there was some sunshine to go along with it!

  10. Mike Geukes says:

Valdez AK has tons of snow

    1. fixxxer says:

      Lol… are you serious?

      1. Mike Geukes says:

Yes, I am. First I would have to get in shape and get well. Might take a few years to move. Give me snow, more snow, snow and clouds.

        1. fixxxer says:

          Whatever floats your boat mike.

      2. Irish coffee says:

There’s a few of us out here!

  11. Nathan says:

    What a beautiful day!

    1. Nathan says:

Bill, just out of curiosity, do you like this weather? Because i sure don’t! (I was just kidding earlier)

      1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Yes, but 70 and sunny is kind of boring to track. It is really nice though, but 90 and tornadoes is more action packed. It could go either way.

      2. fixxxer says:

Bill doesnt like cold & snow fyi.

        1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

          I know

        2. Jack says:

Did He Personnaly Tell You That Fixxxxer ?

        3. fixxxer says:

          Yes sir jacko.

        4. Cort S. says:

Based on how much fun he seemed to be having during the Groundhog Day blizzard, I’d say he likes snow at least a little bit.

  12. Jim Shultz says:

There was a multiple vehicle pileup on I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne this morning at 0830. A friend of mine headed to Seattle past the wreck at 1:30 pm and it was still being cleaned up. He also said the road conditions in Kansas were worse than in Wyoming.

Being a truck driver, I am not looking forward to the white stuff just yet. I see enough idiotic drivers on bare pavement (texting and talking on the phone) let alone having the roadways covered in snow and ice. That just brings more of the not so talented drivers out of the woodwork. Unfortunately, it is growing near that snow will be upon us.

When the winter weather does arrive, I hope everyone will drive accordingly.

Please, if you are driving on the highway and encounter a big rig; remember to give plenty of room when passing us and merging back into the right lane. A safe distance to merge back in front of us is approximately 300′. I see too many cars (we call them 4 wheelers) that merge in front of me within 80′ of my rig and I have to slow down to make more room.

Safe traveling distance for me is 141′ with bare pavement and more if there is snow on the roadway. Often times we are loaded to near 80,000 pounds and it takes almost the length of a football field to stop and much more if the road is slick.

When the visibility gets low, please do not follow to close to us. If we have to slow down or brake hard, you could hit us resulting in injuries and no one out here wants to create an accident.

    1. Jack says:

      Thanks, Jim !!! For SomeGREAT Advice…..Keep on Truckin….God Bless You… :-)

    2. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Thanks for the information, Jim! I appreciate that you’re telling drivers why it is dangerous for THEM. People don’t realize how easy it is to actually die, I guess.

  13. Dan says:

GREAT Win for the Tigers last night. Now, go get the As again today!
Where is the snow? I figured with the cooler temps we may see some snow mixed with the rain. I know, not quite cold enough. Never fear, Winter is on the way!
I saw where the longer range models are hinting at another warm up? How long before the cold weather stays for longer periods of time?

    1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

I’ve noticed that too, Dan. It seems like all of our cold spells have been very progressive…in and out…I hope this pattern doesn’t click in for the winter. It’s just the beginning though…

  14. Jordan (Twin Lake) says:

My Aunt lives in Shelby and she said she saw some snowflakes this morning wish I could have seen some :(

    1. fixxxer says:

well as you know you don’t get everything you want living in michigan jordan.

  15. Steelie says:

    Good Day,

Too cool too early… The CPC has the cool air moving NE of us in the 6-10 day with above average in the 8-14 day forcast, let’s hope that holds. (I still have lots of “maters” growing in the garden… hehe.) Even though we live on “high ground” I think I will bring out the garden tarp for the overnight tonight just in case. Personally, I would rather see these temps in November. Call me optimistic, but I am hoping for one or two more days at or in the 70′s. Indian Summer anyone…?

    Steelie

    1. fixxxer says:

      +1 steelie.

  16. INDY says:

        1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Well, sorry to say I’m not proud to be a Redneck neighbors and all gave me nothing to be proud of over the last 8 1/2yrs to be a Red Hawk Redneck! I will ALWAYS be a Northview Wildcat! If my dh doesn’t get a relocation package we want to move back into town either have them go to Rockford schools or Northview, based on rather the township around the Northview area will allow the Swatz_Zoo YARDofDUCKS to reside around some place with a pond, creek, or something. Gotta bring my flock with me no doubt about it!

    2. fixxxer says:

if by 70′s you mean low 60′s then yes.

  17. Mike Geukes says:

What a beautiful day, nice and cold, with clouds. I love it.
My windows are open and the sliding door to the porch is open.

Only thing missing is Snow, I want Snow everyday.

    1. fixxxer says:

i dunno how to respond to that.

  18. ADora says:

it was lightly snowing in the kentwood area just moments ago. very very light

    1. fixxxer says:

      i doubt it.

  19. Skot says:

Got me a free hot tub off craigs list. Cleaned it up some works great and is currently up to 75 degrees.Snow tonite would be the whip in that. I am now a high tech redneck in my trailor park.

    1. fixxxer says:

well at least you admit it! ;)

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

Skot that is something I need to get as well is a hot tub but not at this house, maybe at our next house we can. We had one at our vacation rental right on Lk. Erie you sat in it and stared onto the lake, very peaceful, relaxing, and romantic.

        1. fixxxer says:

Awe i think swatz & indy are mad at me. Lol :(

Anyways skot i wouldnt of took that for free off of craigslist. God knows what those people did in that thing.

        2. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

And how does this have anything to do with you and rather Indy & I are mad at you? What do I have to be mad about with you, I haven’t been on here that often to get mad at anyone but mother nature and how boring this year has been!

  20. fixxxer says:

Bill we need some heat back. Can you get working on that?

    1. Brian(Grandville) says:

It’s October, so he will have a good 6 months to work on that.

    2. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

      fixxxer,

Have you gone outside to enjoy the beautiful colors yet? I know I get “blah” over the weather sometimes…but really, life is too short to be grumpy about the weather.

Temps in the 30s already here along the lakeshore. Cover your plants!

      1. Nathan (Forest Hills) says:

Bill, will you ever hand out t shirts again? I need one for Indian Summer! (Which I hope is soon!)

    1. Jack says:

Cue: Greatful Dead.. Friend of The Devil….! !

      1. Skot says:

Ummm….nice to see you keep up on politics little BC.
        Cue: BECK…I m a loser baby….!!!

    2. Brian(Grandville) says:

If he is re elected, this country will be looking like communist Russia in 4 more years. This country has no idea what it would be headed toward if that were to happen. So vote for what you believe, not what makes you feel good.

      1. Skot says:

If you voted last time to prove your not racist, vote this time to prove your not an idiot.

        1. Jack says:

          Well Put Skot !

      2. Jack says:

        Well put Brian.!

        1. big Daddy BC says:

Well said? What was well said about that? He claims Obama is turning us into a communist country, Dopey. That’s the most idiotic thing you dolts have come up with. He’s been in office for almost four years. Are we half way to communist? Are we even half way to socialist? Do you think universal health care is communist? How about social security? Medicare? Public schools? Subsidies?
I wonder who that communist threat works on other than old dudes like Bill Steffen.

        2. Jack says:

Yup Well Said , Kool- Aid Sucking little Duddy…. NObama ,,,,,,,,!!!!!!!!!!

      3. GunLakeDeb says:

Just want to point out that Obama’s plan to “destroy the USA” has been abetted by a Republican-controlled House the last 2 years….

        Just keeping things fair ;-)

        1. big Daddy BC says:

By abetted do you mean that congress has blocked every attempt by the Democrats to fix the economy and create jobs, because if so, you’re right on the money. Thanks, Deb.

        2. Irish coffee says:

RAISING taxes, GROWING the size of gov’t, and ADDING more energy/food/manufacturing/land regulations is NOT the answer or pathway to freedom and growth(unless one wants US to look more like Cuba and N.KOREA; LESS like America in it’s prime.

        3. big Daddy BC says:

You do realize that Romney’s planning on raising taxes on the middle class, don’t you? He’s not hiding that. What he’s doing is cutting taxes for upper income. You repubs have nothing but rhetoric.

          http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/09/24/even-mitt-romney-admits-hell-need-to-raise-taxes-on-the-middle-class/

        4. Bill Steffen says:

The middle class are getting slammed now: http://www.sentierresearch.com/pressreleases/Sentier_Household_Income_Trends_Press_Release_August2012_09_25_12.pdf There’s no reason to think anything we’re doing is going to change this.

The last jobs report showed that only 114,000 jobs were created in the U.S. in September. That’s less than 2,000 PER STATE! The U.S. has a population of 311,591,917 and Michigan is 9,876,187 or approx. 3% of the U.S. population. That would be about 3400 jobs created in the entire state. Grand Rapids has about 189,815 people so that would mean a whole 68 jobs created for the entire city!! That’s all!! Are you happy with that? Or do you think we can do better?

        5. big Daddy BC says:

“In another positive sign, the Labor Department revised upward the number of jobs created over the previous two months. The economy added 181,000 jobs in July, initially estimated at 141,000, and 142,000 in August, up from 96,000.”

“What has stymied job-creation is no mystery: Stubbornly slack economic demand stemming from the 2008 housing crash. “The problem is that firms remain too cautious to invest, the public sector is under budgetary pressure to reduce capital spending and residential investment is still depressed by the housing bust…”

In case you have a memory issue, GWB caused the housing crash. Now you put up a candidate who wants to repeat all of GWB’s mistakes.

To show you how the media operates as a 90% mindless herd…I took a paragraph of bigD’s link and googled it: https://www.google.com/search?q=%E2%80%9CIn+another+positive+sign%2C+the+Labor+Department+revised+upward+the+number+of+jobs+created+over+the+previous+two+months.+The+economy+added+181%2C000+jobs+in+July%2C+initially+estimated+at+141%2C000%2C+and+142%2C000+in+August%2C+up+from+96%2C000.%E2%80%9D&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a Someone writes the copy and then everyone else copies it. The best audio of Rush Limbaugh is the “reporter montages”, where he has the exact same question or line coming from every major reporter…ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN – one “moos” and they all moo the same moo. The classic example was “gravitas”. When Bush picked Cheney as a running mate, all of a sudden…one morning every reporter used that word. No one used the word before…it’s not a common word. Someone dreamed up the narrative and every reporter, every news outlet went with it.

Anyway, equal time for another view of the jobs numbers: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444897304578046260406091012.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_LEADTop

Here’s Obama’s own graph that he used to sell the 800 BILLION stimulus (that wasn’t “shovel ready”) : http://raymondpronk.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/unemployment_rate_with_witout_recovery_plan.png Look at the graph closely. We’re worse off today than Obama said we would be WITHOUT the stimulus!!!

        7. big Daddy BC says:

Lots of reporting agencies use organizations like UPI because it’s cheaper than sending reporters out to cover what’s already been covered. It’s interesting that you’d refer to the media as mindless when you’re a part of it. It’s not different than you and every other met in West Michigan referring back to those models or NOAA. There are only so many credible sources.
What I think is especially interesting is when reporting agencies like WOOD claim to do investigative journalism but then use bias in what they investigate. It’s kind of like YOUR coverage of climate change or politics. You don’t do any of your own research. You use only what’s given to you by right-wing blogs or fossil-fuel funded sources. You reveal only ‘facts’ that support your conclusion.

Have a look at what’s happened to growth among the super wealthy since the late ’70s. Do we really need another rich white guy in charge?
          http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/06/speedup-americans-working-harder-charts

        8. Bill Steffen says:

Mother Jones? Now there’s a “news agency”!! LOL! You’re jealous of “the rich” and you want to see them punished. I’m not jealous of the law-abiding (and that’s the majority of them) “rich”. I admire those inventors and innovators…people like Steve Jobs and Dave Thomas – they worked hard, long hours – and their efforts provided useful products and employment for thousands. People have voluntarily bought their products. I admire those who got “rich” thru sports. People choose to see the likes of Derek Jeter and Greg Jennings. They have worked hard to become the best and fans pay voluntarily to watch them (or watch “free” on TV. Many rich people give a lot of money to charity (Romney about 30% of his income – Biden (a multi-millionaire politician) an average of $369 over a 10-year period) and they often accomplish more with the money they give than the government would be confiscating it and distributing it to whomever they please (Solyndra).

You’d be a happier person if you lost some of that envy. I don’t want a bigger house, or a bigger car…I’m very happy with what I have (a very standard 3 bedroom ranch, an 11-year old vehicle, a good family and two wonderful cats).

        9. big Daddy BC says:

You have no idea how much money I have, so don’t pretend, Magoo. Just because I make fun of you for making six figures, vacationing six time a year and then pretending to want what’s best for the single-mother waitress who can barely put food on the table doesn’t mean I’m broke. My personal convictions better align with those that actually DO care for that single mother. I’m not at all jealous of your money or your lavish life style, but I do insist that you pay your fair share. It’s not fair that that single mother pays more in taxes than you do. It isn’t about jealousy. It’s about greed, your greed.

        10. Bill Steffen says:

I know a lot about you from your comments here. You lie (you said Romney was a polygamist). You’re arrogant and disrespectful to others who comment here on the blog. You have presented no qualifications – not even a GED. You don’t know how much $$ I make. I get 5 weeks vacation, but work a lot of weekend days and holidays…plus all the extra events (some station-sponsored and some not). I don’t think you really do care about “the single mother” at all. You want to raise her utility bills and the price of her gasoline. You and your kind want to dictate the minutia of her life…down to the light bulb she uses. If you want to compare greed…check out the % of money that Romney gives to charity vs. what Biden (or you) gives to charity.

          http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/4478336/whos-more-charitable-republicans-or-democrats/ and http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/conservatives_more_liberal_giv.html and http://www.ethicsdaily.com/republican-states-give-more-to-charity-than-democratic-states-cms-19923

        11. big Daddy BC says:

I’m arrogant? LOL YOU continually brag about the money you make, the luxuries you afford, the celebrities you rub elbows with, and the vacations you take. You’ve got arrogance down to a science.
I’m as polite as your right-wing bully squad allows me to be. I’m rude to those who deserve it.
As far as what you know about me, it’s still nothing, so don’t pretend otherwise. But what does it matter? Who else do you ask for qualifications from? You’re ridiculous.

Thanks for the careful explanation of how much money you make and exactly how many weeks of vacation you get. Imagine how much vacation time that single mother gets, yet you want to raise her taxes to pay for your tax breaks. You make six figures, she makes $25 K, yet you’d take her childrens’ health insurance to make a political point. People like she and I despise greedy money-hungry men like you. Enough is enough. She deserves a break.

        12. Bill Steffen says:

I sure don’t want to raise anyone’s taxes. If you want to raise someone’s taxes, try GE: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/general-electric-paid-federal-taxes-2010/story?id=13224558 GE ought to pay a little tax…look how much money they spend on lobbying: http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/clientsum.php?id=D000000125 You guys waste too much money: http://www.maggiesnotebook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Romney_Bain_Obama_Bankrupt_1.jpg

We’re not going to raise a single mom’s taxes. We’re also not going to force “skyrocketing” energy bills and “European” gasoline prices on her.

From the Examiner: “According to CNN poll of debate watchers released following Thursday’s matchup between Rep. Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden showed 48% of respondents named Ryan the winner and 44% said Biden won.

According to Yahoo.com with 650,000 votes in the poll, Paul Ryan won the debate, Ryan has 54% and Joe Biden 46%, a 8% lead in this poll.

A CNN/ORC International post-debate poll shows a 50%-41% margin, debate watchers say that Ryan rather than Biden better expressed himself.

A CNN/ORC International post-debate poll shows. Seven in ten said Biden was seen as spending more time attacking his opponent, and that may be a contributing factor in Ryan’s 53%-43% advantage on being more likable. Ryan also had a slight advantage on being more in touch with the problems of average Americans.”

I love when you post garbage like that. It takes the wind out of any argument you make.

Clearly no matter what our president does right, you’ll fault him, and you’re not alone. He pulled us out of a GOP depression, rescued the state of Michigan by helping GM, killed Bin Laden, ousted Kadafi, and created more jobs in 2010 than Bush did in eight, but still the ‘right wing’ ramps up its rhetoric. Romney’s literally running on nothing. He flip-flopped at the debate and has nothing to offer but tax cuts for his rich friends. Say what you want, Mike, it’s the middle class vs. the rich white guys. We’ve got you outnumbered, big time.

Among independent voters, Biden killed Eddy Munster. Let’s not forget that dems will go Biden and Repubs will go Ryan, but it’s independents that will decide this election and they gave it overwhelmingly to Biden.

        4. big Daddy BC says:

Sure they do, Bill. LOL The problem Romney has is he can’t win the electoral college even if he wears his magic underpants. The repubs know this. He’s already finished. The only reason they’re moving forward with the campaign is for the other races. He’s a sacrificial lamb. What’s especially funny was to think that the evangelists would actually vote for a mormon.

BTW, really enjoyed watching the VP skunk Eddy Munster last night. Ouch!!

        5. Bill Steffen says:

If Romney’s finished, bet me! You seem so sure…give me 10-1 odds! You won’t, of course…you saw the debates…and you see the direction the polls are moving: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/elections/

Check out last Saturday’s SNL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO2JVacQdMY They’ll have fun with Biden tonight!

        6. big Daddy BC says:

Your link puts Obama up, but thanks. I’ll bet ya, Bill. How much? Obama wins easily. He already has the electoral college. It’s funny, though, that you’re asking for odds. …shows how much confidence you have in the mormon abortionist.

        7. Bill Steffen says:

Speaking of abortion…here’s a direct quote from Obama from when he voted against the Born Alive Act: Obama arguing against the legislation on the General Assembly floor, where he referred to a newborn baby as a “fetus outside of the womb”:

“That if that fetus, or child, however you want to describe it, is now outside of the mother’s womb and the doctor continues to think that it’s non viable, but there’s lets say movement or some indication that they’re not just coming out limp and dead that in fact they would then have to call in a second physician to monitor and check off and make sure that this is not a live child that could be saved?”

Let’s do this. We each send a check for $100 to the Red Cross. Winner gets his money back, loser’s money goes to the Red Cross.

      1. big Daddy BC says:

More fear mongering. No one wants to tax your gas up to $9 per gallon. You’re a liar for saying otherwise.

        1. Bill Steffen says:

          Read the link: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122904040307499791.html

The vast majority of Americans want reasonable gasoline prices. You want to burden the middle class and the lower class with high gasoline prices thru burdensome taxes to use the money on boondoggles like Solyndra, while not budging global temperature. It would hurt so many people. That’s why your kind has to be exposed for the regressives and repressives that you are.

        2. big Daddy BC says:

You and your ilk want to raise my taxes to pay for more subsidies to Exxon. Sky rocketing taxes will hurt our economy, Bill, and that’s why Romeny’s gonna lose.

  25. big Daddy BC says:

Same old right-wing rhetoric. No one wants to raise your energy bills except Exxon. And they’re the ones the repubs are subsidizing with our tax dollars. You’re a habitual liar, Bill Steffen.

    1. Bill Steffen says:

ROFLMAO!!! Yahoo is “right wing”? The YouTube video I linked to is Obama talking and only Obama talking. Check my links above. Obama is on the record favoring “skyrocketing” utility rates (see link in my comment above). Steven Chu is on the record favoring taxing gasoline up to European levels ($9 a gallon)(see link in my comment above.

    2. big Daddy BC says:

I was referring to weatherbell, Magoo.

Environmentalists don’t take stands on gas prices. What they want is less gas being turned into acid and CO2. Your gas price argument is nothing but fear mongering. If we make cars that consume less gas, it saves money and is better for the environment. If we use wind in place of coal, it creates jobs and puts less CO2 into the air. If we free ourselves from Saudi oil, it makes Americans safer and is better for our children. Your stance that more toxins being released into the atmosphere is better than less fails the logic test. Less is better, ding dong.

      1. Bill Steffen says:

Then I’m an environmentalist! I don’t want $9 gasoline and I don’t want “skyrocketing” utility bills. It would do NOTHING to budge global temperature…NOTHING…not even 1/10th of one degree. http://news.yahoo.com/ap-impact-co2-emissions-us-drop-20-low-174616030–finance.html

If we use wind, we gain some (highly subsidized jobs) and we lose jobs. We could have everyone run on treadmills for 8 hours a day to generate electricity and we’d REALLY create jobs! One step in freeing ourselves from Saudi oil is to build the Keystone Pipeline, which a large majority of Americans want to see built: http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/e2-wire/235791-poll-voters-back-keystone-pipeline-but-obama-edges-romney-on-energy-security

        1. big Daddy BC says:

Okay, so we agree. Big of you to admit it.

We already subsidize oil and corn, Magoo. Saying we shouldn’t subsidize green energy because it’s green is pure folly. Why do you teabaggers only support dirty initiatives? It couldn’t be because companies like Exxon pay millions in donations to republicans. It’s nothing but a big pay day. You complain about the prospect of high gas prices but express no outrage over the bilking we’ve been experiencing at the hands of the evil empire. Exxon has literally crippled our economy.

        2. big Daddy BC says:

BTW, have a look at the electoral college. Obama’s got it in the bag. They even have Michigan as a toss up, which we know is blue. LOL

          http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map_race_changes.html

        3. Bill Steffen says:

Green energy gets BILLIONS in subsidies and much of it has been totally wasted: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57533659/another-green-energy-bankruptcy-gives-romney-fodder-for-debate/ As Romney said to Obama…”You don’t just pick winners and losers, you just pick losers”. The money goes to cronies, who pay themselves a bunch of money, then they go bankrupt and still the taxpayers. The cronies keep the cash and kick some of it back to the regime.

Check the polls again, bigD: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/ As of today (10/16), both Rasmussen (the most correct pollster of the 2008 election) and Gallup have Romney up on Obama.

Don’t vote for people who want to make your utility bills “skyrocket” and want to force you to pay “European level prices” ($9 a gallon) for gasoline.
