Freeze WarningOctober 6th, 2012 at 11:11 am by Bill Steffen under Bill's Blog, Weather
2:30 PM Sunday – headed downtown to meet people outside our Art Museum studio from 4-6 PM. Still a few light showers and sprinkles…one waterspout this morning on Lake Michigan (and I bet there were more). – Showers in the lakeshore counties should continue into the early evening, then fade away. There were more numerous showers in northern Lower Michigan and a mix of rain and snow across the U.P. (snowing at Houghton and near Marquette Saturday). Two inches of snow was reported at Bessemer and 3.5″ of new snow was reported at Herman. There is a chance of a little sleet/ice pellet mix and a chance of a waterspout on Lake Michigan. If you get a pic. of a waterspout, send it to us at ReportIt at www.woodtv.com The high Saturday was 48 today in G.R. So this was the coldest day since April 10th. There’s a Freeze Warning for all but the lakeshore counties for Monnday morning. Winds will hold at the lakeshore, so no freeze there. Gale Warnings will be up for Lake Michigan for Monday and Tuesday. Today is the last day of ArtPrize. I’ll be at our Art Prize Studio today for a meet-and-greet from 4-6 pm. Stop down and say “hi”. Also – wonder if this could be an ArtPrize Entry.
Also, they had up to 14″ of snow (10 NNW Badger MN) from the early season snowstorm in NE ND and NW MN. Here’s a fall color report. My sources say we’re a little farther along than the map at the link indicates. The color change is running about 3 – 7 days earlier than last year. Up to 14″ of snow fell in northern Minnesota! The chance of significant snow in the first week of October in N. Minnesota is only 5%, so this was indeed an early winter storm. Snow also fell in Montana, Wyoming and W. Nebraska, Colorado, and S. Dakota.
