Earthquakes rattle California
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at 12:25 AM today (Mon.) near Soledad, California. The center was 138 miles south of Sacramento. It looks like it was on or very near the San Andreas Fault. Click the image to enlarge. Also, an earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area Sunday AM. The earthquake was magnitude 3.9 and was centered 24 miles NNW of downtown L.A.
Sorry not related to earthquakes, but I just got off the phone with my brother in law and he works for an oil company out east and says that they have shut down all of the hubs out east. There saying that fuel prices may soar starting this week and lasting through the end of the year due to Sandy. It will depend on two things he says 1) the damage caused to any refineries and service hubs out east and how much production they lost and 2)the demand once the storm is done and amounts businesses and people will need afterwards. Welcome to excuses I guess.
Well, it’s sorta hard to manufacture ANYthing if the power is down. Right? (Am playing devil’s advocate here.)
any excuses to up our gas prices.
Supply and demand. More reliable than death and taxes.
no more like greedy politicians. i bet $$ obama will be re-elected just based on his speech today about this soo called super storm.

So are the earthquake scientists putting out a warning yet so that they don’t end up in jail like the Italian scientists? (dripping with sarcasm) What Italy has done is ignorant, and hopefully doesn’t lead the way to a trend that is a very slippery and dangerous slope to go down.
Just happened to think — what about the refinery in Michigan City(?) Is it out of harm’s way from the storms zooming down Lake Michigan??
Bill, what is the timing on this? I recall a quake off the BC coast, and what they think was an aftershock in Costa Rica…… all in recent days…
I’ve read that “earthquakes beget earthquakes” – in other words, once an earthquake relieves pressure along a tectonic plate; it increases the pressure elsewhere. I just looked at the earthquake map for CA/NV; and don’t see anything out of the ordinary, though. On any given day, that map usually has 400-500 earthquakes listed (the vast majority of them are so small they’re not felt) The spot *I* watch is a stretch along the San Andreas Fault, southeast of Parkfield, that’s been “stuck” for about 150 years. Granted, it might stay stuck for 100 more years – but when that one lets loose, it should be epic!
Mother Nature sure is hormonal (-;
