Interesting article on energy production in the good ol’ USA. What do you think? It would be prudent, and a tad ironic, to leverage the predicted profits from oil and gas production to boost alternative energy research and development.

    1. Steelie says:

      Good Day,

I think the broader question is whether or not this administration is willing to allow these companies to to continue exploration, open ANWAR, build the Keystone pipeline, allow more permits on public land (responsibly), back off their attack on the coal industry, back off of Nuclear, more permits for off shore dilling, drill for natural gas and to continue the practice of fracking. In other words, if they are willing to free up the energy sector (doubtful) then these companies might have more profit to be able to afford the research (or fund universities to do the research) necessary for the development of “usefull” alternative energy. What I mean by “useful” is alternative energy that can both keep up with our demand and keep costs near current levels if not even less. That I could whole heartedly support. Look I am not against alternative energy – I just want it to work. One might say “Oh those evel profit minded corporations…”. However, if a profitable alternative were present, I am sure we would see more investment into said alternative, but it doesn’t exist yet. Hypothetical… let’s say that in the next five years or so someone comes up with a major breakthrough in energy production… let’s say affordable cold fusion, then what? Hmmm, it boggles the mind… hehe.

LOL!! Just had a blast of heavy snow that limited visibility to a couple hundred yards max – now it’s back to the same light snow we’ve been getting all day.

US weather Dec 6-20 looks wild… brief milder period plains and east before, then look out.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Let’s see where have I heard that before? The old 13 to 27 day forecast of the impending winter weather? We heard the same thing about a week or two ago with no results and we heard this exact same line a year ago with no results. While I hope that he is correct, I would bet against it based on his the experts recent track record!

  9. This what to expect of our winters. e

  10. Steelie says:

    Good Day,

    Whoah… I have a whoppingly huge snow drift of 2.5 inches! Hehe… ;-)

    1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Wow…you have that much??? haha I MIGHT be able to find 2.5 mm snow drift somewhere. This lake effect is paaaaathetic. sigh..

  11. Brian(Grandville) says:

GFS now shows nothing for next Tuesday, and really nothing until about the 10th of December. What a boring weather pattern. Oh well, I’m not gonna get mad about it. It is what it is.

    1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

You’re right, it is what it is. It sure is depressing though with days on end of brown, brown, brown. That’s one of the reasons I look forward to snow in the winter. It is brighter and prettier than the blah brown we’ve had this entire year (brown/no snow last winter, damaged trees/plants/grass from drought this summer, quickly browned leaves, and back to brown.) Bring on the snow!

  12. mr. negative says:

Nothing happens around here regarding winter until mid/late December. Always has been, always will be. As the song states….”I’m dreaming of a white Christmas”. You must wait until late December…like it or not.

    1. Jack says:

Agree 110% mr. Neg. You must Be OLD just Like ME…. ;-)

  13. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

The lake effect finally kicked in overnight. Getting some nice bursts of snow that are whitening the ground. It looks like a decent band hugging the lakeshore. If we could have bigger snowflake size, there would be more on the ground.
