Local   8:30 PM -  It’s a pretty quiet evening.  You can see the next batch of mixed precipitation in Iowa that gets here around mid-morning tomorrow (Sun.).   I’m doing the evening shift today…so watch me at 10 and 11 if you can.  We still had snow on the ground when I left my house at mid-afternoon in Alpine Twp.  No snow here downtown.  Snow totals ranged from nothing in many areas south of Kent Co., to 4″ three miles SW of Merrill in Gratiot Co.  Cannonsburg had 2.5″, Greenville 2.3″ and an inch fell at the NWS at the Ford Airport.   A similar batch of mixed precipitation will be moving through Sunday and again spots from G.R. north could see light accumulations mainly on the grassy areas.  However, temperatures will get a little below freezing tonight, so an icy spot is certainly possible tomorrow.  The best bet for that will be north of G.R.  Here’s current temperatures.  Here’s WOOD-TV Interactive Radar, looping radar. Check out the current conditions, regional radar, GRR radar, northern Indiana radar, Chicago radar and Milwaukee radar. Here’s the College of DuPage Radar Map, Storm total rainfall, the local warning/advisory map and the National warning/watch/advisory map. You can checkout the latest Grand Rapids NWS discussion, the Northern Indiana NWS discussion (includes the Michigan Counties that border Indiana), the discussion for Northern Lower Michigan, and Eastern Lower Michigan. The 00Z is looking better for snow for us. It looks like it would stay all snow for the Muskegon area.

Matt, lets not make this about the weather. Your sense of humor is priceless. Every time I read a comment and start laughing out loud, it’s usually yours. Keep up the good work.

      1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Thanks for the compliment, Brian. Haha…I love joking around. It is definitely helpful in my classroom. I just need to be careful not to be funny at the expense of others, which I did today. Definitely needed to lighten up the mood on here though. Rocky and fixxxer just need to relax.

        1. Brian(Grandville) says:

Ya, it’s a lot of fun on here, (weather), or not. Hope the ill are ailing. If anyone is looking for a Sunday letdown, Lions @ Green Bay. I’ll be making chilly, and tuning in here, from time to time instead.

        2. fixxxer says:

I am relaxed. And stop comparing me to xbox rocky “rj”.

        3. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

I already told you, fixxxy….RJ is a kid who calls everybody stupid…you’re a grump. :)

You guys won’t be quite so happy when China comes to get their money back. http://www.usdebtclock.org/ Do the math…there aren’t enough rich to cover even a significant fraction of that. I’d go along with tax increases if they went directly toward the debt (and not more spending, which is what’s going to happen) AND there was entitlement reform to try and somehow leave a sane country for my kids/grandkids, but you guys aren’t interested in that. Too many of you are mired in a jealous hatred of “the rich”.

        1. Jack says:

Bill, I’m not 1 of Those YOU GUYS!! Just so Ya Know…Thank- You, and as ALWAYS, GOD BLESS YA…… :-)

        2. bluewind says:

Bill, the rich in the USA are not very well liked here or around the world. Most of them are very stingy with their giving and their are very few Mike Ilitchs.

Check out what JK Rowling did: http://shelf-life.ew.com/2012/03/09/j-k-rowling-no-longer-a-billionaire/

        3. Bill Steffen says:

Some of “the rich” are not liked. You’re right. Some are (rock stars, sports heroes, movie actors). Lyndon Johnson was a career politician, who died with a near 40-million dollar fortune. Yet, he was loved because of the media/culture driven image that “he cared”. Obama got a higher percentage of votes than 2008 in only two states, Alaska (Sarah Palin was on the ticket in 2008) and New Jersey. Why New Jersey? Because Obama went there and had a photo op. He showed he cared! He didn’t bring a rake or shovel or a chain saw. He didn’t lift a tree branch from an auto. Yet, the admiration for him was greater than for the grunt workers from the Red Cross, Salvation Army and the many faith-based relief teams that were doing the heavy lifting.

Look at what we have in this community due to private philanthropy…Millennium Park, the Medical Mile, the Public Museum, bicycle trails. Government didn’t do that (and wouldn’t do that if given more money. We just spent 800 billion dollars in a stimulus. What did we get for 800 billion dollars? Where is the government Medical Mile, the government Meijer Gardens? For 800 billion dollars, you’d think we’d be able to fill every pothole from Barrow to Key West!).

In capitalism, business leaders, innovators, inventors can become wealthy…many of them started poor or very middle class. As countries veer more toward communism, it’s the politicans (look how many multi-millionaires we have in Congress…Democrat and Republican) and their crony friends who become wealthy. Look at how many politicans today write a book – those who want access/influence buy the books and make it very known they are buying the books (see Jim Wright). With Lyndon Johnson, bribes were laundered through a radio station. Many rich people (that are despised by the jealous) do a lot of good for the communities they live in. Many private organizations (faith-based like Catholic Social Services or secular like the local Rotary club) do great works and received little recognition.

Instead of finding ways to hamper wealth-creation…we need to find ways to grow wealth…otherwise we’ll continue to bicker about how to divide up a shrinking pie.

The models are looking better and better in terms of snow for tomorrow.

    1. Bill Steffen says:

Yeah, when I did my snow microcast this evening, and tweaked the program to print out twice as much snow as the model was showing…hopefully that was a good move. My microcast had more snow north than any of the models, so I hope the 00Z is right.

      1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

What are your thoughts now in terms of snow amounts, Bill?

  4. bnoppe(Albion) says:

Well what I’ve been looking at in comparing this year to last year this year could be worst,,,DEC 8th and talks of a dusting of snow is what were getting excited about it’s rather sad! I’m not going to make any predictions because logic tells us that it will snow at some point

    1. Brian(Grandville) says:

Exactly, it’s been a pretty lame start to winter here, just like last year. I have had snow on my deck 3 times so far, accumulating to less than 1 inch. Question is, when does it arrive? Rivers, and lakes, sure could use it.

      1. fixxxer says:

        Boo hoo ;)
