Watch out for icy spots in parking lots, on sidewalks and on lesser traveled roads Monday AM. As skies clear, we may have some frost to scrape off the car in the early morning. Look for partly to mostly sunny skies Monday with afternoon temperatures in the mid 30s. It’ll be a little breezy and that will make it feel a little cool. The January thaw is a certainty. Both the GFS (56) and European (54) take our temperatures to the mid 50s either Friday or Friday night. Both models print out 1/2-1″ of rain from late Thursday into Saturday. Both models have significantly colder air moving in next Sunday. The GFS has it’s usual Arctic plunge with temperatures headed below zero from the 18th to 20th. There’s a chance of severe thunderstorms in Texas. Also, an all-time heat record for Hobart, Austraia at 107 degrees and “unusual cold weather” in northern Japan with record snow at 18 locations. Also, the Statue of Liberty will likely remain closed until summer because of damage from Hurricane Sandy.
