Dandelion blooming on 1/12 in Michigan
My wife found a dandelion blooming Saturday PM in Comstock Park! BTW – overnight data still showing at least a 3-day shot of Arctic air around the 21st-23rd. In the meantime, a couple of clippers pass north of us this week…no big storms, but we’ll get a little snow. High temperatures Saturday: Grand Rapids 57, San Diego 56, Phoenix 53, Tucson 47, Las Vegas 42.
That is right, Rocky. Well, at least GR had that surprise three inch snowfall.
By the way, I called it. That band of snow worked across the lake, hit the Muskegon Force Field, and fell apart.
My weather rock says cold, windy and dry…..I went out to work in the garage as that band was JUST starting across the lake…I come in to a GREAT magic trick……it just went POOF, talk about the bermichigan triangle.
I am pretty shocked as well, plowing in this area for 22 years now, I have never seen a year that was this late and still no snowplowing, I could have plowed that inch we had on the pavement way back as some did but I salted instead. last time I plowed was Feb 24th 2012…im too pissed to add up how many days that is. BUT pushing 11 months for sure.
I wonder if we can actually go through this entire winter without plowing. Some people are like “no way, can’t happen”….. Well, we probably thought going half the Winter with barely any snow couldn’t happen either…
I sure hope not….not sure how many more months my business can go without snow. I Do know if anyone is interested in a new plow truck they are for sale everywhere. lol Last 2 years I should have lined up 3 months worth of fall cleanups. could have still been doing them.
If you need somebody to help you shovel snow or leaf clean up, etc…. (and still have money to pay after this winter) Let me know. I am looking for a side job and have experience/education with landscaping.
ill keep ya in mind for sure, going to have to take every job that comes across come spring thats for sure!
going to have to make all my money in the summer I guess since the last 2 years I can no longer rely on snow.
‘Last year will go down as “a huge exclamation point at the end of a couple decades of warming,” said Deke Arndt, head of climate monitoring at the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., which calculated the temperature records.’

I wouldn’t believe everything you read bDBC. Look a little deeper and find the truth.

LOL! Another cult-like reference to Watts.
Wheres Bill? BDBC is here. Time for this page go to hell.

Hundreds dead from the cold this winter across Asia and Europe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-20836979 And still…no one can find me a single polar bear that can be proved to have died from “global warming”.

“This year is likely to be the ninth warmest on record, with global temperatures in 2012 cooler than the average for the past decade.” Get that: “cooler than the average for the past decade!” Global temperatures are steady: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.C.gif (GISS DATA). Well that didn’t last long, the high of 18 at the end of the week is gone and replaced with the low to mid 30s. Well, like I said, start low let it simmer – create a buzz – and then yank the rug back to reality.
Seriously?
This dog just don’t fetch anymore! The needle is stuck, this repeat is getting as old as Rocky’s repetitive rants!
“Light snow chances continue for the rest of the week, although Wednesday night looks like our best chance for accumulations. Our coldest weather of the season is possible starting next Monday (January 21).”
Next, next week? Cold ? Or perhaps next, next, next, next……winter?
sucks when it snows in April only in Michigan!! INDYY….
Suck, that we have a Tennessee winter, a little cold, a few flaks, warm, cooler, few flakes, warm, melt cooler, few flakes, melt,, warm, cooler, etc, etc, etc,
Dandelions
Well at least somewhere in Michigan they’re luvin’ winter right now. Lake effect snow WARNING for 8-15 inches with possibly up to 20 in the Keweenaw, Houghton/Hancock area. Must be nice! http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=MIZ003&warncounty=MIC061&firewxzone=MIZ003&local_place1=&product1=Lake+Effect+Snow+Warning
Correction…. up to 24 in spots!!
No NOT nice.
Where’s the arctic air? I’m seeing 30s in the eight-day.
It is coming next week! Errr, uh, or the next week. Maybe the week after that. Perhaps possibly the week after the week after the week when we were supposed to get it.
It will come rushing in by July when we see high temps way below normal in the 70′s. BRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Mikkey!!! Spot on my Bruth’uh.
That would be perfect.
Are meteorologists becoming irrelevant in this new climate order?
BLAME OBAMAAAAAAAA!!!!!
Any sort of “CON”servative does.
What?
Did I stutter?
Meteorologists are becoming more relevant. One way we’re doing that is writing blogs. Mine got over 4 million page views last year. Here’s another blog by a great meteorologist that you could check out: http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/weather/weather_news/recent-cold-spell-is-a-record-breaker
No. But some of us live in a world where we don’t blame things like undesirable weather conditions on the President of the United States. Wondering why you want to blame obama?
CUE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BMIJHZSavo.
Whos Ed Thomas???? But Im sad anyway.
I say ‘no’… But many of the bloggers sure are!!!!
ALL we are saying is dont hype the weather OR predictions. Why you ask?
Thanks for asking I will tell you. Thousands upon thousands of local folks “Rely” on forecasts for there “livelihood” It should be stated by NOAA that nothing is guaranteed past two days. Then all is well.
Totally understand where you are coming from. I’m praying that it gets better soon! I was NOT referring to those of you with real, decent, important, thoughts and concerns. It’s the others…
I laughed on a earlier Post NWS = NOT WORTH S*^% !!!!!
Folks, is it time for Bill to resign?
Brad…why is that comment necessary.???
He has nothing else to do. Sad really. But I’ll get over it.
That’s a weird question. You are on HIS blog constantly trying to argue with him. What would YOU do if Bill retired? Get a job? LOL! You’d be lost without him…
You ere the neighborhood kid who went to Juvie at 13 werent you?
Bill can resign when he wants!
Based on what? You and your heathens trying to hijack the blog, and push your agenda.
…Says the collective that rejects education, science, and common sense.
Did you really just say that about US? You have yet to prove your own education, you only believe in the ‘science’ that Gore told you to believe in, and you obviously have no common sense. It’s impossible to believe in Gore’s science and have common sense at the same time. Good luck, though.
Speaking of Al Gore: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/01/13/al-gores-carbon-footprint/ Gore’s now a consultant to Al Jazeera – he’s being paid with oil money!
Bill…
Will we get any significant snowfall this winter to raise river and lake levels?
Not anywhere near the amount we need to do any more than (temporarily?) stop the decline. I still think there is something more to this than weather. Grand Rapids is above average precipitation in the last 2-year period. Lake Superior is unchanged over the last year. Note this article in the Milwaukee Journal: http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/pressure-mounts-to-restore-great-lakes-water-levels-f76ug5a-170854881.html
So you want Bill to retire because of computer models that spit out the wrong info 5 +days out? Isn’t that like firing the milk delivery guy when it’s actually the processing managers fault? If he was sending up his own balloons and running his own comp programs that would be one thing. Besides if he retired he could make this a pay site and bring in some coin. Course then I wouldn’t know when Rocky was going golfing. LOL
If you got bad milk. Where did that go?

Bill has been and still is one of my most favorite weathermen, second to Craig James. When the weather decides to do something more different than what the computer models predict is beyond anyones ability. But lots of you most likely didn’t argue when you saw that 18 degree high taken out of the 8 day forecast. I am one who will admit that I am very happy that that cold air is not coming, as of yet. Only one person controls the weather and we must except whatever comes our way! Enjoy this beautiful weather everyone!
+ Millions… God Bless Ya… Jerry !!! Our God is a Awesome God…..Amen !!!!

Worldwide temperature for 2012 was very close to average: http://models.weatherbell.com/climate/ncep_cfsr_t2m_anom_2012.png (NASA Data).
“This year is likely to be the ninth warmest on record, with global temperatures in 2012 cooler than the average for the past decade.” http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/nov/28/2012-ninth-warmest-year-record
2012 globally was cooler than 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
