Strong Winds

Peak Gusts:  71.9 mph on the beach at Michigan City, IN.  67.1 mph Grand Haven Channel, 64.7 mph Muskegon Beach, 62 nph S. Haven Beach, 61 mph Lansing, 60 mph Battle Creek and at the Holland Beach, 58 mph in East Grand Rapids, 55 mph at Marshall, 52 mph at Kalamazoo and Ionia, 49 mph Fremont.  I’m glad the leaves are off the trees.   Thunder and lightning in NE Kent Co. shortly before 11 PM – centered near the Lake Bella Vista dam by 9 mile and Blakely!  Lots of lightning from Gratiot Co. to Saginaw Bay around 11 PM.   Gusts to 64 mph at Northport…60 mph Chicago (Harrison Crib) 58 mph  Kenosha and Fond Du Lac, Mineral Pt. WI and Monroe WI.    1″ of snow in 12 minutes at Gaylord!    The Wind Advisory continues into the morning for all of Central and Southern Lower Michigan.  Temperatures quickly fell below freezing as the cold front arrived around midnight and snow flurries/showers will continue.  We also have a Winter Storm Warning for parts of NW Lower Michigan, where a foot of snow could fall.    Red Wings not lookin’ real good…18 shots to 2 at one stretch…we’ve got to do better than that!   Pictures by Drake Olmstead (wave) and Kelly from Rockford with the hail pics.

I’m kind of glad family obligations kept me from winter camping at nordhouse dunes tonight

Glad I live in the woods (1/2 mile minimum all around me); it sure breaks the wind. I can’t even hear the wind as it is buffered by all the trees. Good luck to all tonight as it looks like we are finally going to get some winter weather. Drive safe & leave early for your destination.

At this rate all the snow will end up in Detroit

Really surprised I have power yet. With half the amount of wind it goes off. Seems to be getting more gusty than sustained winds

      1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

We lost power a couple hours ago. I must have woken up when it switched back on. Thank you to the guys and ladies working in these conditions

  6. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

Snowing pretty heavily here. The ground is quickly getting covered.

We lost power in the night too. It gets cold real quick with these winds and temps. Consumers had our power back a more than 12 hours before their estimate. Great job!!
