Monday Showers
Monday AM- We’ll see scattered showers, drizzle and maybe some fog today into Tuesday. Tuesday we reach the mid 40′s to mid 50s, then it’s back to winter with high temperatures colder than average from Thurs. – Sat. of next week. Rain could be heavy Tues. PM and the combination of rain and melting snow could cause flooding and ice jams on area rivers. Some significant lake-effect snow is likely from late Weds. to Friday, along with more Arctic air. Look at the radar……..doesn’t it seem as though most of the precip. will be past us soon?
Yes and no – there is more developing to our Southwest.
Good!
The heavy stuff is done, but the HRRR is suggesting we’ll see some occasional light precip all night: Click here for simulated radar forecast animation
Currently snow, sleet and freezing rain mix!
Bill rolling in on Sunday it’s bad out!!! INDYY…
Quiet in Holland ?
Freezing rain in beautiful downtown Hamilton. Cars are covered with ice, but treated roads are ok so far.
Extremely heavy ice Bill! I’ll send you the video, it’s worth it!
Completely quiet at my house after about 2 minutes of freezing rain.
I dont see a thing outside the window but snow on the ground..in Kentwood
Bill make sure you watch the video I sent you .
We’ve got some lightning!
Yup, thunder and lightening after freezing rain in Coloma!
Wow, I haven’t seen snow this heavy since my days of thundersnow in Allendale! Very quick 1-2″ and coming down extremely hard.
It is lightning and thundering here in Gobles with freezing rain. Lightning is bright and thunder is loud. Wow!
Snow day for Rockford?
Up to 31.7 here. Had close to an inch of snow, followed by a glaze of ice.
The freezing rain is coming down at a pretty good clip right now. Still sitting at 30°, pretty windy as well.
icy glaze here…
Sleet and snow is over for now. Temps are heading up for me 28 currently.
Just saw lightning. Quite
windy too.
Thought I saw lightning… windy here as well…
Also, our county workers must not be to smart…they scraped our dirt road today. Wouldn’t it make more sense to leave more snow on it, so it wasn’t a flat cold surface? I remember when they did that about 6 years ago, and we had enough ice on our road to ice skate on!
You must live pretty close to me. I’m halfway between Martin and Allegan, 1 mile north of 222.
I think leaving the snow on the roads is worse…you think there’s a cold flat surface under think of the snow!
I live on a dirt road and I’d rather they did remove the snow and scrap down the road. Rain on top of the hard packed snow is so slippery and it usually takes longer to melt than a bit of ice on a dirt road.
That’s what I was trying to say thank you. If there is any melting…the dirt can give you a little traction….
I live 2 miles north of M-222 in Watson. So yes, very close.
Thunder/lightning with Freezing Rain and 29 degrees in Otsego. Icy Glaze on the mailbox.
Here in DeWitt we are getting our greatest snowfall of the year yet! The intermittent rain is being absorbed by it. I think we had about two inches with rain/ice mixed in. The plows in my 2.8 square mile city have been through, but if this continues (right now it is drizzling) maybe we will have our first snow day of the year!! The SWIM TEAM has already cancelled their 5:30 AM Practice.
Very brief sleet around 9pm over by 9:10pm I think we are done for the night and there will be schools open tomorrow but who knows this has been one strange system,
Sorta my thoughts too. At this point it looks to be over.
Didn’t even start in Muskegon!!! Bahaha
Bring on the SW flow lake snows. They seem to be the only thing that can bring us good snow.
Agree Swatzee, Not only Strange, but, EXTREME as Well. Been those Kinda Days a lot this year. Hence a CUE 4 You !!!Toby Mac Extreme Days (lyrics) – YouTube

Just had a clap of thunder (quite loud) with lightning in Kzoo
Thunder Ice in south Kzoo!
Thunder ice? That’s a new one for me! Cool!
It is snowing hard up here in Escanaba! We had 2 inches of snow last Thursday night and now we are expecting another 3-5 inches tonight. We already got 2 inches tonight with freezing rain mixed in. We have maybe 5 inches of snow on the ground right now.
And another short burst of sleet than ends.
Bust. Kiddos are gonna be disappointed schools on tomorrow.
Agreed
Nice layer of ice over top of the snow in Middleville 3 miles southeast of town. Where the tire tracks were in my road is like a sheet of glass and now is raining harder…we are 30 degrees….
Freezing rain at this time. Still 28 currently.
Yeah I’ve had short and I mean short lived bursts of sleet but no freezing rain as of yet.
There is significant ice buildup in Kalamazoo, and windy. Ice is easily visible on power lines and trees.
Still some freezing rain here, but the temp has risen to 32 from 28 just a lil’ while ago. Following this darn thaw/rainstorm for Tues., both the GFS & NAM have really bumped up our precip chances for the Weds/Thurs timeframe with a strong secondary wave forming along the front. By that time we’re in the cold air, and likely some decent synoptic snow, followed by lake enhanced/lake effect behind that all the way thru next weekend. Definitely looks like an exciting week ahead!
I’m expecting that my husbands plane will be delayed when he arrives from Afghanistan at the near end of the week, but for our boys sakes, I truly hope they have several school closings during the time my husband is on R&R.
Ohh YES, There Will be time off School for Your Boy’s…. JEM Model, Still Shows a BIG SNOWSTORM, week of … 2/4/13… STAY CUED!!!!!
I’m holding you to it Jack! If you have FB look me up!Just let me know on the friend request that you are from Bill’s Blog. http://www.facebook.com/missy.swatzell
Even if there are no official closings, I would strongly venture to guess that the school wouldn’t mind if your boys took a few “personal” days when your husband returns.
AGREE with THAT!
Yes!… hopefully your boys will have no school then.
Is all of this rain going to freeze?
short answer= no
iow, temps will be slowly rising thru the night…i’d imagine very few school CLOSINGS (from GR south) but delays possible due to some still bad back roads in am…..
WORST CALL EVER!!(about lack of school closings)…..then again, if this were Ireland, schools that were normally closed would OPEN just to see how tough and hardy students/parents were! j/k
Just had a band of heavy rain/sleet come through with a little bit of lightning.
same here and I heard THUNDER!! WOOO HOOOO LOVE that sound!
We just got back home from a night out. The roads are snow covered and speed is reduced but we did not see any spin offs but then again not manny people out either. It’s 30 here with some fr rain.
Slimjim
A steady light freezing rain and 29.7 degrees here in the woods…
Hodge Podge, of Precip. Happening here NOW..also… FLASH of Lightning as I Looked N.E., Very INTERESTING , 2 say the Least…
Heavy rain and 28° in Ceresco, MI.
Received about .2″ of ice so far. Stiff SE wind…
Ehh it’s getting pretty sketchy. Looks like an ice storm to me. Branches starting to sag.
One flash of lightning and thunder here at 10:35pm. Rain and sleet on an off. Temp is 30.2. Have 2 3/4 inches of snow on the ground.
Our rails on our deck are ice covered and glossy in the light. Also there is 1/10″ coating of ice on top of the snow so far. Still constant light freezing rain here.
How much snow did you get tonight?
Nothing is coated up here on wood, metal, 0 zilch nodda
A quick inch. How much in your area?
Around .15 inches of ice on metal surfaces.
As long as I don’t lose power for a week again like 2 years ago
Just had a burst of rain. Garage windows and tree branches are iced over.
WOW!! What a crazy Night!! Quick 2 inches of Snow! just Had very Gusty Winds like a MICROBURST Minus the Lightning with heavy Freezing Rain for 15 minutes!! Time to get the GENERATOR READY !!!
Went outside for a moment and all I hear is the quiet cracking of ice on the tree’s as the wind is blowing.
Hey Bill 17 years ago today we received a huge snowstorm. http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/weather/blog_post.aspx?id=852455
If I recall correctly during that cold stretch the temp reached -20 in or near pellston. I remember driving fro GR to Cadillac while heater fan on high and my windows still fogged up.
That was a VERY cold stretch as we started Feb. 1996: Here’s the low temperatures in G.R. beginning with 1/30/96; +4, -1, -2, -10, -17, -17, 0, 1. We had 85 consecutive hours in G.R. without the temperature getting above +7. It warmed up after that and the month ended up 0.3 degrees warmer than average! March 1996 was a cold month, 5.7 degrees colder than average in G.R. with 10 low temperatures below +10 that month. April 1996 was also a cool month and May was -1.9 from average. We then had (at the time), the 2nd coldest July ever.
I wonder if GRR will issiue a flood watch for Tues..High PWAT values, an open gulf and a decent snowpack on top of ICE that’s on the rivers could lead to some flooding…HPC has us the red over us for flooding possible
Lesser traveled roads and lots in spring lake, grand haven, Norton shores are terrible going down grand haven road I was in four wheel drive and had to coast. Could not touch the gas or would spin…nice shiny ice all the way. Main roads are ok….going to get my rear home….soon as I can!
Lincoln street in gh is a sheet of ice. 31 not bad, slushy to just wet. Couple other side streets were ice also. Still have a temp of 31 here.
