We had 6 to 8 inches of DENSE, ICE-COVERED

    1. Matt (Spring Lake) says:

OOPS… ICE COVERED snow this morning. It is almost all gone now!

Amazing how a horrible combo of heavy rain, fog, wind, and high dewpoints will trash a snowpack. Over a week of snow destroyed in 6 hours.

      1. GunLakeDeb says:

Yeah – the folks who said LE Snow gets melted off fast weren’t kidding….

My flock has been just on absolute HIGH ALERT today it’s been insane how frequently they are sounding off their alarms they know something BIG is about to happen/change. So I normally don’t lock them up for another hour but I better get out there now before the rain returns, doesn’t look though the heaviest cell will reach me, but maybe.

    Good Day,

Near Breton and 52nd… That cell dumped a lot of rain in a huryy. We have ponding and minor flash flodding. I went from nothing to over an inch of rain in a low spot in the yard. Be careful driving if you have to.

  18. Jason[go blue]Brock says:

thunderstorm in greenville, pretty much all the snow is gone and a thick layer of purple haze

  19. Travis Ulberg (West of Martin, Allegan County) says:

18Z GFS and NAM both give the snowbelt areas constant lake effect snow through Saturday. Then the GFS gives everyone a decent shot of accumulating snow next Monday. Then it looks like a roller coaster for temps with more rain storms.

Also, does anyone know what the average January snowfall is for places like Muskegon, Holland, South Haven or any other snowbelt areas?

  20. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Yes, this set up looks very similar to last week! GR got plenty of SNOW! The roller coaster that you refer to will end up being almost all SNOW!! WINTER is getting geared up people. ENJOY the ride!

    1. Steelie says:

      Good Day,

With only about 4 weeks left in meteorological Winter… Better late than never I suppose… ;-)

      1. ~Sherry~ (Comstock Park) says:

        Thanks Jack, I will!!

  23. TomKap (Michigan St. & Fuller) Grand Rapids says:

Personally, I think the majority of this ‘winter’ is soon to be somewhat over.

Another warm-up coming on 2/6. Love this.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Don’t count on it. In a couple days the CPC will be showing us in below average temps with above average SNOW!!!

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

NO WSW however we will be in a lake effect SNOW advisory. Mark it down!

  25. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

WOW the radar is exploding with storms over the lake and I very well may see one or two Jack!! You said I would in a previous reply so let’s hope you are right.

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:

Now you are talking. We will be getting a ton of lake effect SNOW on this side of the state! Get READY!!!!

  28. Rocky (Rockford) says:

The 18Z GFS snowfall map shows the GR/Muskegon area picking up between 6 and 10 inches on SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROCK N ROLL is here to stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Travis Ulberg (West of Martin, Allegan County) says:

NAM gives me 10″, GFS gives me 8″. The NAM handles the lake effect much better than the GFS.

      1. Swatz_Zoo(Cedar Springs) says:

When is this suppose to start taking place? Tomorrow night into Thursday or Tomorrow night through Saturday.

      2. Travis Ulberg (West of Martin, Allegan County) says:

  32. Tim (Walker) says:

  33. kevin. w says:

The east Asian jet will be our dominate weather pattern for awhile as this jet is over 200 m.p.h. and this will be the driving force for our weather. There is a strong cyclone near Asia right now and it looks to get picked up in the fast moving jet in about a week to ten days. This storm is now showing up on the longer range Euro and the GFS but in what degree of strength it will have in the U.S. is still yet to be seen. But what most models are or I think there showing is more of an up/down type of pattern. The NAO is trending positive so that is usually a sign of no east coast storm the AO oscillation is trending toward positive and the PNA is more in a neutral stage so am thinking that the there may not be a big storm but time will tell. I’m hoping the PNA can go negative and the AO will go negative then we might be talking a good snowstorm. The JMA model has been very consistent on a big storm the first week of February and it still shows it and thats about a week away. I think something is coming because the models have done real well with this system tonight. Its going to be a wait and see pattern but one thing is for sure the pacific jet is going to ramp up and NWS out of D.C. is pretty much in the same ballpark.

    1. Ryan (Rockford) says:

Is this likely going to be favorable for more synoptic snows in your opinion, given the way the oscillation and other factors are right now?

    2. Jack says:

      JMA Model ??? Don’t COMPARE 2 The…JEM MODEL !!! ;-)

  34. Marti B (Grandville area) says:

Good grief, we’re getting more rain and thunderstorms now, on January 29th, than we did all summer. Crazy. I love thunderboomers though – the more severe, the better. I’m hoping for a vary active spring thunderstorm season this year, but…..blink….this IS Michigan after all! ;)

    1. Rocky (Rockford) says:
