Well, if Chicago didn't receive the 1.1" we got a few days ago, then we definitely would of broken the 1" snow drought last night/this morning with the 3-4" we have on the ground now. Now we need to break the significant snowfall (6"+) drought before the witer is over! We broke the 1" drought and the substabtial (3-5.9") drought all within a week of each other, now time for the significant snow drought to be broken!

I do see a couple systems that could have the potential to break that drought, which is a Alberta Clipper system and then maybe an even bigger synoptic system that according to the models right now could have some brief rain changing over to some heavy wet snow. So we shall see and hope...

Long term guidance and CPC are predicting warmer than normal for much of the long term.

I wouldn't be surprised to see near record highs sometime during the month. The powerful east Asia jet core will start to break the ridge in the west, while pulling it east towards us. That will pull the jet stream closer thus most likely throwing us a couple of heavy rain makers during the month.

This would give us bouts of temperatures in the 40s to near 50 and rainy periods followed by cold fronts that wi usher in some colder, more seasonable air until the next low pressure rides along the jet stream.

FYI, some people keep stating that Wood's mets have a cold bias in the long range forecasts. Go back to early this week, when the temps for this weekend were forecast in the mid 20's Saturday up into the mid 30's by Tuesday. I had 20* here today, and the next three days are now forecast 22*, 22*, and 24*.

I'm sure the sainted Detroit NWS or Fox 17 nailed those numbers though, right?
