In the longer term, the cold in the Western U.S. in January was measurably more significant that the monthly deviation from average in Australia.

Sometimes it was so foggy I had maybe 20 feet of visibility. And with such cold temperatures, and wind chills around -30° while on the snowmobile the fog froze to everything of the snowmobile and myself.
