Ice Jam Update – Grand R. and Muskegon R.

February 6th, 2013 at 6:08 pm by under Bill's Blog, Weather

Here’s the latest from the National Weather Service….There’s a Flood Warning for the Grand River in Ottawa Co.  The river level was steady at 14.9 feet in Robinson Towship.  That’s 1.6 feet above flood stage.  The ice jam causing the back-up is still there.  There is water up on VanLopic Road.   Here’s the Grand River level at Eastmanville (high and fluctuating).  Ice has been clogging up the Grand River in Ottawa County.  While the Muskegon River has gone down upstream from the Rogers Dam, there is still a lot of ice in the river and further ice jams are certainly possible.  Here’s the river level upstream at Evert.   The first 6 days of February averaged 10.0 degrees colder than average, so we’ve been making a lot of ice in the rivers.

Last 23 days will have to average +2.3* just to get us back to normal. I’d bet against that.

    Must be the new normal.
